Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 821 - 820 - Massacre of Fools

Chapter 821 - 820 - Massacre of Fools

The cavern was at the end of a short tunnel that led to other tunnels and finally the night sky greeted him.  The moons and dark sky were refreshing but he saw the Honor Master relaxing at a wooden table with the demon children he had seen before.

They were smiling as he spoke to them about something until he caught sight of Lind.

The old man waved him over and the children parted instantly.

"You have missed all the fun, Lord Frey."  He tilted his head but chose to sit at a free chair and took in the lovely evening.

"What fun would that be?"  The Honor Master looked to a ridge and he saw them.

There were the corpses of humans, a lot of them.

He frowned deeply but then his abilities as a weaver told him more than a few deserved to be up there.

"While I can appreciate some of those being stopped, why are they on display like that?"  The Honor Master sighed.

"It was not my idea at all but it has put a stop to the constant issues.  They are from various groups it seems and refuse to believe they are as weak as the ones that died before.  Humans are not bright at all."  Lind had no counter to that as he was guilty of being a slow learner on far safer topics.

"Still, I did not think you would go that far."  The Honor Master pointed up and he looked up to see a figure flapping her wings as another corpse was dropped onto a pike.

Gel swooped down and looked exhausted while covered in human blood.  She had no weapons as her body was the weapon.

She saw Lind and smiled wide before seeming to blur as she crossed the distance in less than an eyeblink.

"Master!"  He noticed she had become a peak 8th tier Sky Realm in less than a week!

She stopped as she realized she was still covered in blood.  Her unsure look was turned to shock as water and air suddenly swirled around her and her dark robes were cleaned instantly as well as her body.

"Sit."  His voice was firm and she quickly assumed a lotus position in front of them.  "Explain what has happened."

She winced as his eyes looked behind her at the bodies mounted on pikes under the night sky.

"It started with Goddess Yue sending us a message about groups of humans seemingly rushing to several areas whose resources had once been under the Empire's control.  A group came here and attacked without even trying to talk.  We fought them off but did not even get a break before another showed up."  As Gel spoke, Lind found his anger cooled.

He thought she had perhaps given in to the more twisted instincts of her physique but instead it was simply an unending wave of fools.

They left no room to negotiate nor even try to retreat.  They simply assumed all the beasts and land were theirs to take without opposition.

Gel actually began impaling the corpses to try and ward them off to mixed success until the whole ridge was as it stood in front of him.

"What groups are they from?"  Gel then outlined what sounded a great deal like a massive amount of illegal or at least gray organizations.  He also narrowed his eyes that none matched the identification from the original camp Lind attacked.

He summoned a tea set and cups for all of them as he poured it out.

"I think we have been used but it does not change the fact that the wave of fools were a bit too slow to learn from the mistakes of others."  He knew how stubborn cultivators were as individuals but groups suffered from an almost insane level of it to their detriment.

Both the Honor Master and Gel looked at him in confusion but he had no time to explain as his ears and nose told him a group was coming.

"I am telling you, the better the bloodline, the better the results!  We can make some nice pills off these mutated goats!"

"I heard Elder Brother Gin came out here before us, he likely already claimed this spot."

"Bah, Elder Brother my foot, he is only a peak Sky Realm.  Our Senior will show him his place in the guild!"

The voices were not kept low and clearly they had confidence but they were equally stupid.

Lind let his eyes focus as he pierced the shadows of the trees around them to find a group of 3 happily cutting plants as they trudged right at them.

His expanded senses felt the anger of the more powerful trees and plants but he calmed them as he waved his hand.

Air, water, and earth condensed into 3 lances before launching like cannons into the forest.

Not a single leaf was touched as the 3 men were pierced in place before they even heard the rumble of the launch.

Honor Master and Gel slowly turned back to Lind who looked ruffled but frowned.

It had been much harder to condense the simple shape.  He now understood how much Haro had been helping him.

It was not just Laws but Immortal quality Qi.  He had to condense it so he did not deplete his dantian but such a simple thing was so slow.

"Lord Frey, was that an Art?"  The voice of the Honor Master snapped Lind out of his contemplations but he shook his head.

"No, that was just basic Qi manipulation but a test for me.  My recent recovery revealed some issues I need to take into consideration.  I also need to enter the Sacred Paths soon, it seems."  His words made both Gel and Honor Master stare at him.

That devastating attack was just basic Qi manipulation?!  He was disappointed with it as well from what they could tell!

It had easily killed 3 cultivators of unknown power instantly with no chance to defend and it was a disappointment to him!

"I suspect there is an opportunity and it will help me get a better feel for my new limitations."  Lind seemed to be talking to himself before looking at Gel.

"Do you know the various resource areas not destroyed with the Empire?"  Gel nodded and seemed to move back as Lind smiled.

The hunt begins!

Li was in his office when messages began to come streaming in.  He snickered as some were panicked messages intercepted by his network about attacks or simply battles between rivals.

It was a bloodbath but it began to calm down.

The one area of silence was concerning as it was the area at the very edge of the current world where some powerful beasts could be harvested.  Yet, even a full 2 weeks later, no reports or messages came back at all from that spot.

It was likely true that the Immortal Dragon was there.  Only an idiot would anger such a powerful being.

"Senior!"  A young man stumbled into the room clearly having run from somewhere.  Li frowned deeply but then looked stunned as it was one of the more reliable men under him.

"Roran, what is going on?"  Li expected an attack on their headquarters or perhaps a warehouse robbed of the peak grade 6 resources they have hidden away over the millennia.

"The–the information network went silent.  They were monitoring the mines, herbal fields, and other resources we pulled back from as you ordered but they have all gone silent at once!"  Li felt all the blood drain from his face.

He tried several jade communication stones but there was no response at all!  What was going on?

Before either man could begin to investigate or try to find anything, all the jade stones lit up at once!

[To all able to hear my voice.  Your men are dead.  They did not even allow me an option for surrender or leaving at my request.  Their corpses will not be returned as many have no identification.]

The voice was powerful and did not feel as cold as it should to Li's mind.  The part he only grasped a moment later was the speed.

There were nearly 25 sites known up for grabs when the Empire fell.  They were in various places but the voice was declaring that in the time it took Roran to run to inform him of the lost contact to the current message was too short!

No one could move that fast!

[Before you make plans to bring retribution, let me show you what I can do.]

The jade stones sparked with emerald light before a man suddenly projected into the room!  They were not projection type artifacts!  Projections could reveal too much information so Li never used that type!

The man had no colors to show anything but Li knew the rough description matched the one the citadel leaders were looking for!

Before Li could activate any ward or defense, a wave of Qi swept both of them.  Nothing happened but suddenly the projection looked right at them.

[Hello, Li.  Your organization will have a lot to answer for from what I can gather.  While they would not talk about themselves, they were happy to talk about you.]

"Senior, he knows my name?!"  Li felt all the blood drain from his face.  Roran was hearing a different message!  That was also beyond the jade stone's abilities!

[You all understand now.  I find your artifacts rather primitive so changing them is as easy as breathing.]  Li suddenly understood what happened and why things were so fast.  The Immortal used the artifacts against them!

He didn't even have to move to affect people!

Sweat broke out as the projection ended.

[Do not send any more people or I will personally come to visit you.]

The connection broke and Li was left speechless at the possibilities.  No matter who they were, some artifacts were essential.  Steps could be taken to secure them, but they were needed.  The man they angered had proven that such essential artifacts were weapons in his hands!

"Senior, what do we do?"  Li had no answers but looked to a shelf and wondered if he should message them.  He sighed and made a few decisions.

"Roran, send a message to the other side, the usual contacts.  We need to have a meeting!"  It was all he could think to do.  The official side of the citadel was looking for that man, so hopefully they could think of something to stop him!
