Chapter 807 - 806 - Chaos Unleashed
Chapter 807 - 806 - Chaos Unleashed
At the heart of the Starbreaker Empire, a massive mansion was one of many around a dark castle. The air around there was vile and oppressive to all but Fiends, yet at that moment a scream rose from the upper halls.
"My son is dead!" An impossibly beautiful woman was clawing at several demon servants. They did not resist as they were dismembered or killed as there was no point. They were just tools and had been raised as such.
It was their duty to serve in whatever capacity their masters desired.
The room currently getting drenched in demon blood was burnt at the heart of it. Where once a massive bed with violet and gold silks draped from above was gone. Instead there was only ash.
The few demoness and demon bodies were pristine but the young master was just a pile of ash as well.
His mother was currently covered in demonic blood and raging when another woman came in.
"Honestly, Magg, you need to stop–" The Fiend was as gorgeous as any but a long scar crossed just outside her left eye on her ash gray skin. The aura of an Immortal also came off her as her pale hair reached far down her back. The pristine black robes were lined with broken stars to mark her station.
As powerful as she was, she felt fear entering the room. There was a threat to someone as powerful as her in the useless grandson's room?!
She launched a violent ball of lightning but instead of destroying whatever she felt, it was swallowed in emerald light! Before anyone could react to that, artifacts and other Fiend related items burst into pieces as the Immortal Fiend pulled her daughter out of the room.
She did not stop as the true horror of the reaction did not stop. What was that?!
She sent a message directly to all her family to leave the mansion immediately and to activate demonic isolation wards only.
None denied or questioned her as she was the supreme power of their family.
The crowd in the streets were mystified as powerful Fiends suddenly flooded from a prestigious mansion known to belong to one of the few Immortals.
As they organized and confirmed a headcount, all swiveled their heads to the mansion as emerald flames shot up suddenly. It wiped out an entire wing, out of 3 possible, like it was simple tinder!
Several sharp eyed Sky and Heaven Realm Fiends saw a spike in natural Qi resulting from those flames. It was only when a Shadow and Metal Wards made of pure demonic Qi that it was contained.
Once more, experienced Fiends noticed the demonic wards actually seemed to get stronger in the presence of the emerald flames.
Before anyone could count to 10, it was all over. It was barely even enough time to make tea since the Immortal Fiend had found the oddity in her grandson's room. She held the now limp woman in her left arm like she was a sack of wheat.
"Grand Mistress Yansui, what was that attack?" She turned to her son in law. He was a robust Fiend and a veteran of many battles. She wished at times he was of her blood but she was satisfied with him being part of the family.
"Your useless son is dead. He clearly let one of his pets anger something or someone he should not but that was a threat to even me. So an Immortal was behind it." He frowned which stretched a couple of scars on his face.
His bald head made it even more severe but his open vest revealed his well built muscles flexing in anger.
"Fool!" He spoke quietly but she ignored it.
[Come to the palace.]
Yansui felt the summons and dropped her daughter on the street. No one paid attention to the act at all as they saw her fly away. Only one thing could summon an Immortal.
She flew over the ancient and powerful structures laid out elegantly to let Qi flow and gather efficiently.
She saw quite a few withered Fiends and frowned. Despite the improvement over the last 100 thousand years, they still suffered from too much weakness. Fiends like her and her son in law were actually in the minority.
Only the Regent's family had the best results.
The secret was demons. For some reason, demons did not suffer from the same ill effects of humans and other races.
They did not care about why, they simply took advantage of it. Demons were consumed or made into thralls in massive waves.
She crossed the fortress wall of the palace and no guards stopped her. There were almost no demons past that point.
The main palace was a very different design compared to the rest of the capital. It was a smaller design of the old Imperial Palace from the main Starbreaker Empire but it no longer existed, so it had become the only piece left since then.
It had slanted, square roofs with curled hooks at each corner holding simple lamps to light the exterior. It was only 3 stories tall as well while some mansions were 4 to 5 stories tall and blockier.
The open courtyards were actually well designed to pull in and use much higher levels of Qi to convert for Fiend use.
She landed at the foot of the main entrance that could easily allow 6 carriages to unload at it without a problem but none were there at that moment.
She expected the normal quiet efficiency of the palace but there were shouts, Qi spikes, and several unstable auras swept over her as she moved into the main dark halls of the palace. She was unsure what the cause was until a familiar burnt area came into view.
How was that possible?
Demonic wards isolated the burnt areas just as she had done at her home but clearly someone had moved faster as only the rooms were lost.
She saw a few burnt husks that froze her in her steps. Unlike her grandson, they were ravaged by something and it actually gave her a better idea of what that attack could do. All the Fiend Qi were being transformed even at a slower pace, into natural Qi.
How was such an attack created without their knowledge?!
She found the main reception hall doors open and guards armed to the teeth. They were always covered in armor and armed with swords or spears but now they had several artifacts laid out.
She noted they were all peak grade 6 demonic defensive items but moved swiftly inside.
It was a shouting match between 13 Immortal Fiends which included the Regent! Yansui assumed it had to deal with the damage she had passed when she saw a flickering demonic ward in the corner.
Shocks had not stopped as she saw one of them in it!
It was an Immortal Fiend being ripped apart by the same emerald flames!
She had felt a threat but now she truly saw how dangerous those flames were.
They could kill them! The soul was sealed somehow inside the dying corpse!
"We are under assault! It is clearly the humans doing it!"
"FOOL! If they had that kind of power, why would they bother doing so haphazardly?!"
"They had been planning to attack us but hid this card so deep! We should unleash our agents–"
"Never! They will simply kill all the thralls we have hidden in their ranks!"
Shouts were parsed by her ears but Yansui ignored them as she processed all that had happened.
Her grandson had done something and been killed by it. Shortly after the situation was isolated and completed, the summons came. Now, more attacks were revealed.
Yet the tactics used mimicked what she had done in a much more efficient manner. It meant the attacks came later but very quickly. How had it breached the palace defenses so easily?
She then recalled that any Fiend Qi that came in contact with the emerald flames was just fuel on the fire, yet none of the wards had been destroyed either.
It meant it was not simply being launched at them like an assault on their Empire from an army or an assassin. They would have to get past various defenses both passive and active.
[ENOUGH!] Regent Zhong finally unleashed her full power. She was an older Sliver Tier Immortal but exclusively used demons to keep herself alive. Thus her beauty was beyond any of them.
She had golden robes lined in crimson and black. Her white hair was tied back into a braid draped over her left shoulder.
All the shouts came to an end. The surviving 13 Immortals knelt to her and a calm came over them.
"We are under attack and as we sit here, more of our kind die." Yansui found that impossible to grasp but the Regent was not done. "The only common thread are those with thralls outside the final wall."
The revelation narrowed their focus but left a mystery. Why was that the common thread?
Yansui was about to speak when her storage ring drew her senses. The jade communication stones from several agents were screaming at her and she was not alone.
The Regent summoned a mounted crystal on black metal supports. It revealed various reports of something wiping out all patrols at a speed that left them feeling cold.
"It is an Immortal, it has to be!" Yansui agreed with the barely alive man that was only a skeleton in appearance. He was the weakest of them but only an idiot would underestimate him.
"We need to fight back! We can't just lay down and take it!" A woman spoke up that was missing an arm. The lack of quality resources prevented her from regrowing her arm.
Still, they were Immortals, a damaged body was a mere nuisance at worst.
Yansui kept wanting to curtail the bubbling chaos but more news kept flying in.
"The main gate is under assault!" A guard came running in but before he could be questioned, he burst into emerald flames! Yansui instantly summoned a communication stone to project the main gate of the final wall.
All in the room froze as a massive emerald dragon was ripping apart the bricks of the wall as if they were paper!
Why was there a dragon attacking them and why was it so strong?!
