Chapter 794 - 793 - Greed of Humans
Chapter 794 - 793 - Greed of Humans
Lind reveled in flying freely for the first time in years. There were no clouds but he wanted to confirm something. He shot deep into the sky and smiled as he felt the Qi density increase massively.
There were also many more Law Traces but he also felt like he was trying to move up through a nearly solid mud again. There was clearly a limit to the height he could go up.
He smirked as he already knew the solution to that problem! He had all the materials but there were better ones possibly somewhere too.
Ella had shown him the depths of the cavern and he could tell there was far less damage below ground compared to the surface.
He was about to descend when he noticed an oddity. The flow of Qi was not natural. It was obviously falling near the curtain but he also saw it flowing towards the desolation. He also saw an oddity to the northwest.
It was like there was a bloom of something there but it was at least a week or more away assuming he was seeing the source with his eyes.
He had a different goal, however. He needed to see if the humans had kept records before risking the northern areas. They might know more about that as well.
He let gravity take over but was stunned when he floated! The density of Qi was so high that he was buoyant?!
He studied the feeling and then understood. It was not so much about density but a secret of the dragon race. He was resting on air and light Qi as it flowed across his body!
It was a novel feeling but he quickly grasped the way to stop it. He simply stopped the flow of Qi in his body and instantly started to fall. The wind roared in his ears as the massive forest began to close in once more.
The massive trees had branches soaring high into the sky but Lind was far above them. The dappled shadows at the surface were clear to his vision and senses. He was simply scanning as he fell until he would stop before impact but his eyes narrowed in displeasure as he saw something.
A little girl was cut in many places as her simple linen robe was slashed. She was hunched over what seemed to be a gold fox.
It was aptly named as when in the lower realms, its hide would sparkle like gold. It was very good at using light Qi too.
It was a very young kit from what he could tell but the parent was not far away and slaughtered by the very same people attacking the girl. They had simple wooden and stone implements while the little girl had a broken arm guard of leather now.
Her hair was dark but too covered in blood to be sure what it was before. Both the kit and girl were alive but not for long.
Emerald light flared as he transformed instinctively. He was very angry.
"Come on, little rat! Give us the baby and we will make it painless." One of the older boys, with a stone dagger, was smiling as he sliced up the girl on her back. He could have easily killed her but did not.
They were entertaining themselves!
His body reached its full length and cast a shadow across the 5 boys and the girl with the kit.
"ROOOAARRRRRR!!!!" His aura flared and all the beasts in over 1000 kilometers knelt instantly. The boys were only 10 or 11 but the girl was 8 at best. He isolated his aura from her and the kit, but did no such thing for the boys.
They instantly turned pale, soiled themselves and passed out, or at least they would have liked to. He kept them awake easily enough as a weaver! Their souls were in his claws!
[You found this fun?] His voice boomed in their minds. The little girl was shaking but she only held the kit tighter that was yipping as well. He carefully landed so his claws were in front of the pair as the boys tried to run but he used his aura to freeze them in place.
[Is there something wrong? Is this not fun?!] He opened his maw and let emerald flames build as his horns glowed with lightning.
The boys wailed before he finally let them pass out.
They were alive but no doubt he had scared them for life. He found it hard to pity them at that moment but he had perhaps gone too far. Still, he saw the bloody corpse of the adult fox not far away and all that pity vanished.
Unlike many aether beasts, gold foxes had no interest in humans at all. They were actually kind to them if they were lost in the forest.
Thus, killing one was simply an act of cruelty. There was not even a material useful to alchemy or formations from them. The cores were useful for elixirs but Lind never used them.
He could get just as good cores from predators or beasts that trapped humans for plants to consume.
He slowly turned back to a human and saw the girl had her eyes squeezed shut in fear as the kit looked up at him in terror.
"You 2 have nothing to fear from me." He quickly brought out a few grade 1 elixirs and set them by the girl. He did nothing else as she slowly opened her eyes to see him standing back.
The vials glittered and she weakly worked the cork out before swallowing it. Either she had no fear left or the pain was simply too much to put thought into why someone would poison her at that point.
The glow of Qi suffused her as the wounds closed up and relief crossed her tiny face. The kit had a healthy golden fur still and not a mark on it. Lind bowed before crossing to the mutilated corpse of the parent.
He could tell it was only a Soul Realm but it still had a core. He knelt in front of it.
"Your child is safe. I will help if I am allowed. Please go in peace." There was no reaction exactly but he felt the need to say it. He gently picked up the core from the macabre corpse. He then gently burned it to ash.
He came back to the pair that were staring at him but he gently set the core down in front of them.
"Take it." The tiny kit looked up at the girl but she only stared at him without blinking. Her eyes were a bright azure color, yet they were not full of life as such a young child should be. They were dull.
The tiny fox jumped out before she could notice and it swallowed the tiny core into itself. It mewled into the sky and he knelt before it.
The girl watched them as it slowly came up to him and rubbed its small head against his hand. He smiled and gently patted its head.
"Why?" He looked up to see the anger in her face and understood.
"I only just arrived. I saw you as I got in range. I am sorry." It was not his fault. He could not know everything happening at all times but he had possibly been close enough if he had not enjoyed floating earlier.
She looked even more angry but the kit mewed and she looked at its dark eyes. It was like it was pleading with her to forgive.
She pouted but said nothing else.
"Go back to her for a bit. She saved your life." The kit understood him because he could communicate even with a mortal beast. It yipped and hopped over to rub its head against her as its tiny fluffy tail wagged happily.
The little girl seemed to crack a smile as she pat the tiny fox.
Lind then stood up and went to the boys. They were well fed compared to the malnourished girl. They had more leather armor and woolen shirts of better quality than hers again.
The boy with the dagger seemed to be foaming at the mouth but he ignored them as they would recover in time. They had no storage treasures but he was not surprised by that. What he was surprised by was that they were Stone Tier or Sand Tier!
How could children be World Realms?!
He glanced at the girl but she was definitely only in the Body Refining Realm.
He took their weapons before swiftly tying them up with a simple rope from his ring.
"Do you know where their village is?" She nodded and pointed to the west and south a bit. He extended his aura and found it. He frowned to see slavery as well as some other unwelcome actions.
It seemed the owners used the slaves as playthings and it was all too familiar. He thought about wiping it out on principle but he saw the end in sight already.
There were meetings of insurgents in several places. He simply levitated the boys and tossed them in the rough direction of the village. It would be one more mystery when the fell from the sky.
"My name is Lind Frey, how may I call you?" The little girl stayed silent. The fox, however, yipped in excitement.
"Ah, you are Little Fluffy. That seems appropriate." The little gold fox wagged its tail happily while the girl looked confused. "I am a dragon. I understand her as she understands me."
That got the little girl's attention as she looked at the fox.
"Lis, I am called Lis." Lind nodded and played with the fox as the girl looked on. He would take his time as hopefully her village would be of more use to him.
