Chapter 793 - 792 - True Grasp of the Problem
Chapter 793 - 792 - True Grasp of the Problem
It took Lind a month to fully recover but Ella was terrified he would be enraged when he awoke a week after the incident. He told her she was not to blame at all.
He also explained how a powerful ancestor had intentionally risked their life to try and learn something but could not salvage it all before they died. He was unsure how such a memory got imprinted in the bloodline but he would hopefully learn in the future.
Currently, only Hei showed dragon blood, obviously, but the others carried it as well. It was entirely possible his grandchildren or distant descendents could awaken his bloodline and it would be helpful to know if only his actions up till the birth of his first children were stored or it just kept going so long as he was alive.
If it was the former then there was nothing in particular he could do unless he could add to it. If it was the latter, then it would be worth learning if he could make particular memories stronger than others.
Once he began to recover, he examined the revelations he got, short as they were.
The projection seemed to try and sense something before it faded and declared the Dao was dying. It was not a good thing at all obviously but could such a thing really happen?
The Dao dying would be the end of all life not just in the Celestial Fields but all the way down to the mortal realms. It meant they were all going to die in the void!
Also, the Cataclysm happened over a million years ago as roughly as he could figure, but actually killing the Dao should take far longer if pulled off. It was not a living thing like a human or other race.
There was no one and done fatal wound that could be dealt. Attacking the Dao would be a constant and horrifying level of attack on the fundamental bedrock of all the realms.
It was that powerful as the Dao was both the goal and source of cultivation. It was how Qi, life, and all Laws were tied together.
How could someone even try to kill that?!
Why would they do that?
He thought over it for a few days before he recalled how Fiends worked. It might not be that the Dao dying was the goal, but the effect.
Fiends needed the lifeforce and refined Qi of cultivators to progress but that massive shadow creature obviously was far beyond them all.
Even as a Shard Tier Immortal, Lanbao was killed with a mere whim of the being.
Such power clearly had the capacity but it could not act even on this realm, so how could it do it? It had as much as said all the realms were its food for its cultivation but the method was not known.
Lind began to fully grasp the towering mountain he was facing. He was confronted with a technique or some kind of Art that was slowly refining all life in all the realms!
He frowned then.
Slowly? It was slow now but not when it first started. According to Lanbao, Suzen had known something was coming and acted to isolate his area with the Law Binding but would that have really stopped the end of all things?
It was a mystery how Suzen, who was admittedly an idiot, could modify a Law Array so perfectly to betray the Fiends that used him. He had theorized how before but now he thought perhaps he was seeing evidence of another betrayal of the Fiends.
It was only a guess but it clearly only bought them time. Time that was running out. It might explain the curtain of Qi as well as it seemed too uniform to be natural across the weak and strong areas.
He needed more information but the sheer size of the realm was beyond his comprehension.
Where would he even begin to look for answers?
"Ella, is there anywhere that might have records or elders older than you have here?" It was a long shot but he thought he would ask. He expected a simple no or maybe a pack or tribe of beasts with longer lifespans, but instead she looked nervous.
"Uh, um, there are the caretakers that show up sometimes to stop battles. No one knows where they come from, but they are very powerful like you." That perked him up. Immortals could actually have a lot of knowledge and since there was no Fiend War to kill them, they might be only 1 or 2 generations removed!
"Is there a way to reach such beings otherwise?" Ella went to shake her head but then paused. She seemed to think of something.
"There is a restricted area to the north. No one is allowed to go there but humans do on occasion. They never return." Lind narrowed his eyes. Of course humans disregard rules, they have a near suicidal streak embedded in their DNA!
He sighed but nodded. Instead of going there directly he would go towards the human settlement.
"Do you have any names or titles aside from caretakers?" Ella sat with her head at 45 degrees to think as she sat down on a rock outcropping. The greenery of the trees around them made for a very peaceful scene at that moment.
He was sad it would end when he left. He knew it was his presence that brought the current herd peace.
"Um, I know one of them felt scary when she got angry. She had a long golden robe that shimmered like metal in the sunlight. I recall it clearly when the humans tried to wipe out the silver hawks over a century ago." Lind nodded but knew that particular Immortal was an aether beast then.
A human Immortal would feel powerful to a beast but fear came from her instincts. He also noted the flight of birds she spoke of. Silver hawks were a decently powerful aether beast aptly named for the color of their feathers.
They also had a strong connection to earth Qi as their feathers could be as strong as steel!
He then thought of something.
"Would they come for me?" He was suppressing his aura as a dragon except for his little slip up, but it would still have not gone far. Ella shrugged her shoulders as she was not sure.
He noted it if he got desperate. He then asked for some more details but there was not much more.
Ella looked at a rough map of the area but told him the forbidden area was off the sketch entirely. It would take him a day or 2 of flying to get there if he was lucky.
He spent the rest of the recovery time setting up some defenses for them. He could not do as much as he wanted as grade 7 weavings were shredded the instant he erected them.
The very Laws that made them up were ripped out without an artifact to host it.
Still, he did not want them to be suddenly overrun once he was gone. It would not be unusual for other beasts to come and try to kill them to draw him into a trap or simply to see if there was something worth having for themselves.
"Are you really leaving?" Ella was tearing up but he patted her head as he knelt down.
"I don't want it all to end. If I want to make progress, I have to get all the knowledge I can. If possible, I will come back. These wards are peak grade 6, the strongest I can make. You will be safe here as I used the Qi sources inside the cave to power it." He saw her concern but smiled.
"It won't affect your herd's ability to reproduce or cultivate. I made sure." She smiled at that and he was reluctant to go. It reminded him of when Tal was young.
"P-please come back soon!" Ella was blushing like mad but he was sure it was as a child to a parent. She had struggled for so long but had no time to spend on herself until he arrived.
"I will try." He straightened his gray robes before patting each member of the herd. The little ones rubbed up against his legs like mad and were braying in anxiety as they all felt he was leaving.
He indulged them a bit before slowly lifting up. He waved at them as some brayed saying goodbye while the little ones cried out to stay forever!
"Take care of yourselves!" He waved and seemed like an angel ascending back to heaven as he flew off. The blue skies quickly absorbed him from sight while Ella stood on top of the cavern opening.
Her eyesight was better than the rest but Lind faded away from her too.
She then let the tears fall. The last few months had felt like the former Eldest was back. She had truly loved that time of her life as the kind old man taught her earnestly but joyfully. He treated the whole herd as his children and Lind had been the same.
"Father, there are kind dragons too. I wish you could have met him." She then hopped down and comforted the crying little ones who were crying for Lind to come back.
It took the better part of a day to let them know he would come back if he could. She prayed to the spirits her words came true.
The beasts that tried to investigate later were in for a nasty surprise as the peak grade 6 wards easily kept them away! It quickly became a forbidden ground for all but stone drals.
Other herds came to join them that had no Heaven Realm to lead them but Ella found some were stopped by the wards. It took a while to figure out that some kind of test was given to those trying to cross. If they failed, they quickly revealed their true colors of wanting to dominate their group!
The wards not only protected from other beasts but from ill intent! How had he done that?!
Ella felt her long missing feelings of being protected by her Father flourish once more as she watched over her growing herd and hoped Lind would return soon.
