Chapter 759 - 758 - Irritation
Glass shattered as a corpse was tossed aside without a head. Blood flew in the air but the owner did not care. The macabre seen of several withered corpses did not really need the addition of a headless corpse but the woman that caused it was angry.
"How dare he?! He killed my playthings! He will pay!" The Widow was naked as she lay covered in blood. Her gray skin shone with vitality but her disturbing eyes were currently full of only rage.
She had felt one of her more promising projects evaporate in real time. Her 3 minions were also dead.
Mycea would no doubt berate her for her failure but when she learned how did it, she doubted her rival would be as degrading about it.
They both despised LInd Frey to their cores! However, they were also afraid of him.
She had felt Heaven destroy the connection to her minions as well which made her wary. It was not like other times where they created a Void of Heaven to avoid detection. It had actually been angry.
"He is close to becoming an Immortal." Real fear tinged her voice. Yet, there was still time. The step from Heaven to Immortal Realm was not so easy, even for her kind.
She disintegrated the headless corpse as well as the withered husks from her rooms. The blood remained but she cared little for that. It appealed to her in a way.
She found some new black robes that accentuated her voluptuous form but for once she was not on the hunt for new toys.
The line of 6 women weeping outside the room did not even bring her any joy.
"Consume them as you will." She spoke to what seemed empty air but 3 Fiends shimmered from the shadows followed by the screams of the women as they were taken away.
Her name the Widow was not for her own mates dying, but for taking others as her source of nutrients. She had a mate at one time but he got boring quickly. No one knew for certain what happened to him but they could guess.
Fiends had no love in their hearts.
She moved through the ornately decorated halls but her anger just kept bubbling until she turned down a corridor that led to a giant black crystal mounted on a stone pedestal in a circular room.
It was engraved with several sigils but was just a communication artifact. It was the limit of what she cared to make.
She infused her Qi into it and the sphere glowed. It only reached one place in the present circumstances.
She did not get an answer right away but she did not expect to. It was only after a day that the crystal glowed to show a connection had been made.
[What do you want, witch?] Widow would normally respond in kind but she instead sent a summary of events and who was responsible.
Up until the last part, she felt ridicule and several snide comments whispered through but dead silence came after the name of the cause of it all.
Widow waited and Mycea did not disappoint her.
[That is, irritating. Very irritating.] Widow was about to speak more when her mind shook with more broken connections! It was not small at all!
Mycea also screamed as well. She was having the same issue. What was going on?!
It had only been a day!
The issue kept spreading until every thrall, spy, or other agent touched by her mark were all dead!
Lind Frey could not possibly have done it but his Qi was involved! She knew it for certain.
[That bastard made artifacts to find them all!]
Mycea was right, it was the only answer but the dissemination was too fast! How had he done that?!
It was worse in that she could tell it was not just her but every Fiend that had an agent anywhere past the Line was suddenly without any! He found them all!
She screamed as her Qi ran wild in her complex.
Tapestries burned and both cultivators and Fiends died as she rampaged. How dare that ant do all that to them!
There had to be limits to his power but if he was able to simply send out artifacts that could be used after a charge, he could easily maintain the new wall against their thralls and agents.
Only truly human, demon, or aether children/beast agents that freely joined them could escape such a net. Even then, their lives were too short and too weak to be of much use!
Lind Frey had effectively burned all their plans to ashes in a single day!
[We will need to make them pay. We will take what matters most to him. We will take his children!]
Mycea's words actually froze the Widow. Anger had evaporated as she flashed to a day only a few decades gone.
Zerod had been so sure they would win, so sure victory was in their grasp, but then that dragon had come. Lind Frey had fallen upon them like a storm and they could do nothing to stop him!
"We cannot do that." Widow spoke but was actually surprised at her words. She recalled the feeling from that day so clearly that she knew there were lines not to be crossed..
[Are you actually afraid, witch? Afraid of a Sun Tier ant?] Mycea was taunting her but Widow calmed herself as she recalled all they had suffered at that very ant's hands.
"What makes you think his children would not be uniquely set up to kill us on sight?" If she was Lind Frey, she would do exactly that. Anger her enemies to the point they would become predictable and slaughter them at the moment they thought they won.
Mycea went silent and she waited.
[That is actually a good point. I take back my insult just then. What do you recommend we do then?} Mycea sounded calmer but Widow had no ideas. Any plan needed agents, information, or some other avenue of hurting Lind Frey.
Any threat to his family was suicidal for the very reason Widow had already thought of. There had to be something they could do to strike back.
Then it came to her. She recalled the very thing she had realized.
"He is close to his ascension. We just need to know where it is and sabotage it." It was a risky plan. Heaven and Earth were unkind to Fiends in general but being near a tribulation was almost as bad as Lind Frey's harmonic Qi.
[What do you intend?] Mycea was not against it right away but clearly had the same concerns.
Widow pondered before a smile spread on her face.
"It does not need to be Fiend Qi. All we need is something to strike right at the moment the tribulations begin." Widow summoned up a list from her storage bracelet. She had a few rings but most would go for rings at her level. A bracelet was far less likely to be taken as a storage treasure then.
It was a long list but it was of those they could use that had yet to be marked.
She had to go far down the list before a name finally appeared. Given the recent purges, they were likely to be panicking too.
"I have a prospect that has worked for me for some time. They are not suspected of a thing at all. They will also feel a certain appeal to killing LInd Frey. They will do." She smiled as she selected a jade comm stone.
[Wait.] She froze as Mycea called out. [Do not contact them directly. I have a spy that can do so without the use of risking jade stone communications. Send me the information.]
Widow would normally be reluctant but desperate times called for desperate measures.
She sent the information and felt surprise in the connection.
[How in the many realms did you have this one under your thumb without a mark?] Widow smiled a smile that would steal most men's souls. She ran a hand over her body but Mycea could not see it.
"I have my ways, you should try them sometime." A snort was heard before the connection was broken. Widow stepped back and frowned at the damage yet it now no longer mattered.
Lind Frey would die. Even a tribulation for a Divine beast could kill if disrupted properly. Besides, he was a progenitor from what she had heard. None of those beings could just waltz through their tribulations no matter what they were.
"When you are dead and all your little traps are exhausted, only then will I come for your family. I will make your wives watch as I drain your children dry and then they will be taken by me as well." Her eyes were cold as she looked at that far off day. "You will rue the day, you bastard. You will regret every being born!"
Widow moved off to get new treasures and comb the farms for new toys. She needed to feel better about everything now that a plan was in motion.
She could not be there, but she was sure to hear about it. The Alliance would miss the days of peace the damned man was gone. The war would shift back in their favor at long last and nothing could stop them then!
She dreamed of death and destruction as she smiled her way out into the sunlit skies of the farms.
