Chapter 738 - 737 - Divine Karma
Chapter 738 - 737 - Divine Karma
It was Melar of all people that found out.
Ulta had been happy to let the cultivator simply leave if they caused no issues as it was only a matter of time before she ruled. Yet, his inability to tamp down his anger resulted in Soltara revealing a shocking piece of information.
Lind Frey could be the key to repairing the ascension pools!
She had always planned to use sacrifices if needed but if the key to her future was already there, she was not letting him go!
It took very little convincing to have Uri and Elara keep Soltara busy while Melar engaged with Balgorn.
The other Immortals were helping her too. They all believed Ulta was going to teach the cultivator a lesson so they simply enjoyed the show, but she had very different plans.
The man had surprised her a bit. She had expected him to try and futilely exhaust himself before she swept in to capture him.
Yet, he shockingly freed the child despite the intense pain he had to be experiencing. She had been so curious she let it happen until it was done.
He was able to free and heal the child. She felt a few of the others ask questions about the use of a Soul Realm as bait but she simply made them think it was in no danger since a Heaven Realm could overcome the trap.
They could not grasp the Law she used since she was so much more powerful than them.
[Now then, don't resist or there will be more pain.] She began to use her aura to enclose the man but he tried to resist with what strength he had left. It was surprising how strong he was for a Heaven Realm.
"You–will not–-make me–yield." His skin changed to scales but she simply applied more pressure.
[Now, now, you should be happy to be of use to your betters. The Heaven Realm war situation can be resolved if we reconnect to the Celestial Fields. We won't be trapped in this cage anymore.] She smiled manically at the very thought.
Her dream of freedom would come true right at that moment.
She had to focus as her real body was trapped still in the temple but if the ascension pool reconnected, she could ascend!
A large sinuous emerald dragon was squirming in her grasp. His horns and powerful legs thrashed but his strength was still lacking.
[You are making this difficult. Here, hold still.] A shaft of steel slammed into a limb of the dragon. He roared in pain as blood flowed. He tried to connect to a weapon nearby but she cut it off as well. [So many objects to play with. Stop being so stubborn.]
Three more still spikes locked down each limb. His blood did not trigger anything but she did not expect it to be that easy.
She began to peel away his defenses to his dantian. She would take it all from him to secure her own future.
As she delved into him she found curious things. There was more than natural Qi inside him!
She found demonic Qi and also something else. It actually made her stop for a bit. What kind of Qi would make an Immortal fear an ant?!
[What have you done to yourself? Is this why you can re-open the pool?] Ulta found that worrisome. If it was his unique arrangement of Qi that made him a key, it would not be so easy to extract for her to use.
She then saw the strange sun at the heart of his dantian. The Qi was unusual, but the sun was just strange.
It was the wrong color for one. She knew what cultivators' suns should look like. They should be bright yellow to white depending on their quality. The color of emerald was there once more.
He was an aether beast but he was also human? How did that work?
What was this man?
She was getting frustrated the more she saw. She did not dare to kill him until she extracted all he could give her.
The steel anchors groaned as the dragon body had incredible power but she merely sneered at his attempts.
[I do not care if you are a dragon or a man, you are but a tool to let me continue living!] Her true thoughts came out. She finally had her goal in sight but it was more complex than she wanted.
Why could she not simply bleed the ant dry and be done with it?!
She began to try and pluck the Qi out of him but the resistance was far greater than expected. How could a measly Heaven Realm cause her so many issues?
She then felt a tremor in the barrier around the area. She glanced at it and saw one of the Immortals was troubled after Lind Frey became a dragon.
[He does not have a beast core, he is merely a human in dragon form.] Her words calmed them but they were still troubled. Ulta did not care so long as they kept the annoyances unaware of what she was doing.
She resumed trying to pry the sun intact out of his body but instead of breaking up as she expected, it stayed in place!
What was going on?
She exerted more force than she felt was safe but once more the sun stayed firmly in place. In fact, it began to glow strangely in her senses.
She put more pressure into trying to separate it but then silvery lightning struck from the sky!
She jumped back and looked up yet there were no clouds nor other signs of Heaven gathering power. Where had that bolt come from?
She also realized the air had become strange. The others were still in her range but they did not seem to have been affected by the bolt.
Even the dragon was unmarked despite being hit by it directly.
She extended her senses once more and there was no change. She went to try again but a silvery bolt slammed into the dantian once more! She had to leap back as she felt extreme danger despite being a projection.
What was this?! She felt the danger but the source of the bolts was seemingly from nowhere. She then split her attention, it was easy as her strength far surpassed Lind Frey.
She touched his dantian and her senses immediately saw space tear open with a terrifying level of power on the other side! It was so fast she had missed it as the silvery bolt was coming right at the dantian again.
Why strike Lind Frey and not her? Whatever it was could clearly sense what was going on, so why? She tried to find the tear once more but it was completely sealed. How was that possible?
Where did that come from? She had never heard of random silver lightning. Some cultivators might be able to make it, but she doubted it would feel so dangerous.
[What are you doing?!] A cold voice suddenly boomed over them all. Soltara had appeared! Damn it!
She projected fully but Ulta no longer dared to wait. She picked up the dragon body in her aura. She refused to let her chance slip away!
Strain on space built up as Soltara slammed onto Lind's body as well. Still, there was a limit either could pull on him as neither wanted him dead.
[You dare to harm my guest?! Are you insane?!] Ulta sneered at her words.
[You hid that he could let us out of this damned cage! You were going to keep it from us for yourself!] Ulta knew it was a lie but she did not need the others to interfere. Still, it only made them look on so it was not to her benefit either.
[What is wrong with you? He needs to be an Immortal at least to help us like that. He needs time–] Soltara was trying to make a reasoned argument. Ulta could not let her do that!
[Why wait?! We have the power to unlock the ascension pool now! What does it matter how we use him?] Ulta knew Soltara and Balgorn were an outlier. Most Immortals did not care about Heaven Realms that much. Especially if the benefits were for them over those beings' best interest.
That made a small segment take Ulta's side but the others were not as convinced. The issue was the aura coming off of Lind Frey. It was definitely a dragon.
The oath to welcome dragons openly conflicted with the clear threat Ulta meant for him.
The fight was about to escalate with silver lighting slammed into Lind's body. It tossed both Soltara and Ulta to the horizon! Ulta was trembling as that time she felt a direct threat to her life! Soltara did not seem affected much compared to her.
[THAT IS QUITE ENOUGH!] A voice shattered the sky as a presence far above them put pressure on them all. [YOU HAVE TRIED TO HARM ONE THAT IS PROTECTED BY DIVINE KARMA. IF YOU CONTINUE, YOU WILL FORCE IT TO BE EXPENDED. IT WILL DESTROY YOUR REALM.]
Ulta shivered. Divine Karma? What was that? She saw confusion in Soltara as well but then both snapped their senses over to Lind Frey as they felt a change.
He broke through! He was a peak Sun Tier! How did that happen?
[ANY FURTHER ACTION WILL BE ON YOUR OWN HEADS.]
The tear in space collapsed until it was gone. What just happened? What was that Divine Karma? Why did his cultivation increase?
[I knew you were unwise, but you have all forgotten it seems. Divine Karma is only granted to those wronged by Divine Beings. It is not lightly granted by Heaven. You should be able to feel it as Soltara has. The reason he can reopen the ascension pools is tied to that. While being protected by Divine Karma, he will face horrific tribulations ahead. He is the last hope of us all and you betrayed him.] Balgorn quietly appeared. Melar looked shaken next to him.
[What do you–] Ulta wanted to rip into him but she was suddenly assaulted by all the Immortals nearby. They had all felt the presence and voice. What was that voice?!
[Divine Karma invokes protection of the Dao. If the Dao is endangered, it will be invoked to protect it, however, it is too powerful for our realm. So long as he stays in the Heaven Realm lands, he will be somewhat safe. Death can still come from battle but fortune will turn in his favor if it can.] Balgorn laid out a fantastical reality but how did he know of it?
Ulta and Soltara felt shocked. They also instantly seemed to feel it was true. Fear came into Ulta's face but Soltara looked at Lind sadly. He would face a horrible tribulation to become an Immortal. Heaven was fair so favor must be met with challenge.
Before anyone else could speak, an aura spiked in the middle of the area as Lind opened his eyes.
