Chapter 648 - 647 - Forging a Law
Chapter 648 - 647 - Forging a Law
The revelations of the dark side of one of the elders of Forge of Stars Sect, as well as the result of Lind's assault on them, spread like wildfire among the elites of the Alliance of the Two Rivers.
The Wards of Hope, Peace, War, and Blood snorted at the foolishness of anyone that did not grasp the Emperor's temperament deserved anything that happened to them.
The Wards of Honor and Justice felt a shiver in their spines. The former empire of Karridan had become a massive complex of merchants and profit. While there were no real issues with the laws the Alliance imposed, merchants always chased profit wherever they could find it.
As such they took shortcuts and occasionally dabbled in shady business deals. They were a far cry from the true horror of the old days but it still existed. The elites quickly cleaned house and were relieved that nothing too bad was found.
The Justice Ward had a very different problem. They were the judges, advocates, and other experts involved in the laws of the wards. While they supposedly enforced all laws, many backroom deals were done to get ahead in their cultivation or careers.
Some advocates thought of themselves as the law itself and acted like they alone decided life or death. Those people suddenly found cowed subordinates rise up and their superiors coming down on them at the same time!
Everywhere, it was like all woke up from a complacency they had not realized they were falling into. The gentle and reasoned approach Lind had used in the last 5 centuries made many forget, or rather soften the history, of Lind Frey's rise to power.
He waded through darkness and scraped by at times by fighting viciously as much as trying to save people.
Of all the races, the demons were the only ones that had long been harsh on any wicked practices. Haim was merciless to them or any group that thought to rise up against the laws of Lind Frey.
The Heavenly Maiden Sect felt like they had chosen correctly to support Emperor Frey in regards to Desolate Song but also felt invigorated that he was leading them all. The Secret Flame sect sadly found similar issues in their members.
Two elders were found using vile methods to make their pills more powerful or simply cheat the conditions to make far more complex pills. Further, there was a trade in illegal pills that could control minds or simply make subject to suggestion on various levels.
They hid nothing and killed or crippled the guilty parties after immediately informing their contacts to Emperor Frey.
All of that chaos unfolded in less than a week but Lind, himself, was currently in the midst of remembering a moment of his battle.
His weaving and elixirs were in grade 7 but Forging had no clue forward. Weaving and elixirs could induce the use of Laws by the materials or intent behind his skill, but Forging required imbuing items with functions at the appropriate grade.
In other words, he had to Forge Laws, not just elements. He assumed he would have to reach the Sun Tier to begin to touch on that but in the battle with Elder Jin, something unexpected happened.
The Law Binding had not responded to him at all. He had no Seal nor had he reached out to Linghu but in the heat of the moment he wanted to stop the elder with a pure attack. It was a fundamental desire at that moment on pure instinct.
Instead of his dantian, however, his mind had grasped on something else. It nearly wiped him out but the Law woven from his harmony seemed to manifest what he wanted.
He imagined clearly a powerful attack of a beam with incredible potency but he wanted more. He wanted the world to bend to his will in that moment and it answered.
His Law, whatever it was, synced with the image in his mind. The Law was Forged for a brief moment and he thought he felt closer to his harmony as well.
"Flexibility, power, and resonance are part of my Law. What is the Law inside me?" Lind mumbled but he summoned a smelting pot as it began to glow with fire Qi. He summoned just 2 metals.
He would not make it complicated as he recalled the feeling he had before. It was like trying to move his mind through mud and steel at the same time. He could almost sense it but he was trying a different tack.
Laws were not something he grasped but perhaps he did not need it yet for what he wanted to try.
A shiny black metal ore and soft gold powder were put into the pot. Void Sea Iron was one of the few grade 7 metals he had kept for so long and studied off and on when he had time, but the soft gold powder was a catalyst he had found in the treasury of his sect in the Floating Isles.
No one realized it was a growth metal powder prepared by a refiner at some point yet never used. Leeching Bauxite was made into a powder for catalytic purposes but Lind knew of another use.
It lowered the melting point of grade 7 metals!
Lind saw the molten ore finally become all liquid. Unlike most metals that would glow red to white, Void Sea Iron was even darker. It looked like a void in his melting pot but it would sear anyone that touched it.
The wounds would never heal if it was made into a weapon but Lind played it safe. Void Sea Iron made good weapons but it also made a good shield. He had prepared a mold for a massive tower shield.
He chose a larger shield for 2 reasons. The large frame would allow him to spread out the powerful metal more, but also the larger item would be less terrifying if it failed. The energy would be thinner, essentially so it would explode in his face!
The number of issues he could have avoided after he figured out that trick would have saved large swathes of Wild Heart Isle back then!
He used his spirit Qi to move the smelting pot as he tilted it into the mold. The strain on his Qi was negligible but now he had to spread the metal out evenly. He carefully used his Heaven Touch to do it.
If he touched the molten metal, it would melt even his scales off! He finally had the metal carefully spread out and was sweating but still had more than enough Qi. The hard part was next before the metal cooled entirely.
He closed his eyes and the strain on his aura now could be felt by any if they were nearby. Lind formed a simple image in his mind. A shield that could disperse all damage thrown at it.
Qi, physical attacks, or even nature itself were included. He did not specify resistance, negation, or even shock absorption, it was pure dispersal. He had a lot of experience with such a concept when controlling his 6 elements.
He let his mind grasp carefully before something shifted just barely. It was like he had moved a mountain with his entire body just a single centimeter, but a profound feeling flowed through him like a river.
It was powerful and his moon strained while his meridians creaked. It was not as simple as the battle but he held on as the feeling flowed into the shield.
A blinding light lit up the room as Lind felt all his Qi, stamina, and mental strength sapped in an instant. His training as a weaver let him hold on to consciousness long enough to down an elixir he had out.
The azure elixir with glowing sigils quickly cleared his fatigue in his mind but his body barely recovered. It was scary how much mental strength that took.
He carefully looked over to see the change in the shield. It was not the prettiest work he had ever done but he felt it!
Grade 7! It was low grade 7! He did not sense a spirit but that was expected. The Law technique was just too crude.
It was a deep black tower shield with no decorations nor any other fancy symbols but Lind could see faint traces of something with his Eyes.
He took it out to the balcony and set it up on a target dummy against the barrister. The realm would prevent it from getting too far but also he wanted to avoid damaging his rooms!
His arm transformed into a dragon and slammed into it. A resounding crack was felt in his arm as he was sent flying back but the dummy hardly moved! It worked! His sore arm would heal but he still checked it and was shocked!
It was not just his bones, but his muscles had been damaged as well! They were ruptured all along his arm and his shoulder was out of its socket! His scales were cracked!
"Dispersal would not do this. What Law did I put into it?" Lind summoned Lanbao who appeared instantly. He smiled at how quickly she came but he pointed at the shield.
"Can you sense what Law is in this shield?" She froze for a moment at his question. She slowly turned to the shield. It was crude and ugly but she felt a threat! That shield could stop her!
Every time she thought Lind could not surprise her, he just kept producing miracles.
She examined the shield but frowned.
"It is not a single Law but neither is it multiple. It is more like the intent of a Law. The material carried it over the threshold but only just. Its stability is beyond me but what I feel is more like 'Absolute Defense' more than anything." Lind was shocked at her words.
He scratched the side of his cheek as his arm suddenly went back into its socket. The pain focused his mind as he carefully stretched his newly healed arm. Lanbao suddenly realized what happened to him.
"The shield reflected your attack back at you?!" Her voice cracked at the end but Lind nodded. She then transformed her hand into the azure scaled version before simply tapping the shield.
The result was instantaneous! She was partially pushed back as the force seemed to be double!
"I am no expert, Lord Frey, but I suspect a true expert would call this a crude grade 7 at best. You have the concept but not the ability, yet clearly you grasped something." She then turned stern. "Did you make this just now?"
Lind became sheepish before he was suddenly under an Immortal aura!
"LORD FREY?!" Lind realized he had been playing with fire once more. His theories learned in grade 6 clearly did not apply to grade 7. Still, he had leads to pursue but first, he had to survive his current lecture.
