Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 640 - 639 - 500 Years of Freedom

Chapter 640 - 639 - 500 Years of Freedom

A man in dark gray robes walked up a simple stone path.  The bright day time was looking down on well cared for trees and grass with some herbs mixed in to make a pleasant walk.

It was a solemn place, however, that was lined with such beauty.  As the man slowly made his way up, he saw a small crowd with incense burning in front of them as they looked up at a massive statue of 4 people.

Three of them were men with firm faces but subtle smiles as they seemed to stand behind the largest statue.  It was near lifelike features of a massively muscled woman holding a broadsword of impossible size in one hand.

Her face was gentle but unyielding as she looked out at the crowd.

"This is the person that saved us back in the War of Liberation.  She took the attack for us and then saved all of us by getting out of the city…"  Lind saw a woman with fine features crying as she looked up at the statue as a young man looked a bit bored next to her.

They both had a healthy tan to their skin but the round faces were clear signs of relation more than that.  The woman had sandy colored hair but the boy was near pure black.  The rest were a similar sight of the older generation pointing and talking to the younger about the statue.

It was a strange piece of work as there was no sign of carving.  Also, the slight fluctuations of Qi made it clear it was doing something but no one could tell what.  Very few would recognize it was a Forged item of peak Heaven grade 6.

The Qi was collected to maintain the statue in peak condition.  Despite that, the group polished it a bit before bowing deeply.  Some of the young followed suit but the man noticed some not as into it.

It was only when they turned that the crowd noticed the man in dark gray robes.  His face was very handsome but his eyes were covered by a strip of cloth.  Yet all felt he could see just fine.

His power was also at the peak of the Moon Tier.  While Sun Tiers were powerhouses, very few had been able to hold onto that lofty Tier after the War was over.

"Senior, please forgive us for taking up your time."  The same woman bowed low but the man waved her off.

"You came to honor Lili and the others, that is fine."  When he spoke her name without honorifics, a few frowned but others felt a jolt.  It was entirely possible the man had been there too!

"Did-did you fight with Supreme General Lili back then?"  The same woman spoke up and her young son, or maybe grandson, finally perked up but the man giggled a bit before nodding.

"We fought each other at first but over time she then fought with me.  She was a woman of honor but always looking for redemption.  She did not need to, she had honor in a dark time.  That miracle was enough."  More than half nodded but others frowned again.

"You were her enemy?"  A man spoke up and seemed to be a little angry when he asked but the man smiled and nodded.

"Many started as enemies back then.  She was a red robed Soulmancer after all."  The moment he stopped talking the man shot forward,  His peak Sky Realm aura was clear but many only shook their heads at his foolishness.

A Sky Realm stood no chance against a Moon Tier, yet all were shocked when the fist connected.  The man did nothing to stop the fist yet it clearly did nothing.

"The truth mattered to Lili.  She was proud to be a red robe Soulmancer, but she acknowledged that all of it was wrong.  It was why she tried to fight so hard to free everyone.  She valued honor and justice enough to fuel her power into stopping it all."  His deep voice drew them in but then the man vanished!

They all turned around to see him bow low to the statue.

"I wish I had been there for many reasons but not least because perhaps she could have seen the new world she so desperately fought for."  A few sneered at his arrogant words but his power was real so they said nothing.

"S-senior, please forgive my friend.  We love her so much but never got to thank her.  We never got to know her!  She saved all our lives but that was the first and last meeting."  The man nodded but then smiled as he turned back to them.

"You need not worry.  She got all the thanks she wanted knowing you lived.  Trust me, the horror of Orwellia was bad but the truth of all of it really drove her to save the innocent.  She died knowing she had won her battle.  Live well and that is the only thing she would need."  The man then floated up before patting the head of Lili's statue!

Shock and anger now flooded them all but then a voice called out behind them.

"Emperor Frey, you snuck off again."  They all swiveled around to find a gorgeous woman with bright azure hair and eyes with skin the color of cream.  Her figure made many of the young men dazed while the older men blushed.  Her words took a moment to sink in before a tired sigh came from the man.

"Lanbao, I was just coming to see Lili again.  It is the anniversary after all."  Shock flooded them as the binding fell away to reveal 2 emerald colored eyes!  The robes were still dark gray but then Lind's hair reverted to dark with emerald streaks.

It was the Emperor!

"E–e–e–e–"  The man that hit him was sweating and slammed his head onto the stone platform as the young girl that came with him was also panicking.  Lind only smiled before he used his Qi to gently lift the man up.

"I had a thousand ways to stop you but let you hit me.  Do not worry.  I meant what I said, Lili was already thanked by saving you.  You saved her.  I was told she was happy at the end which I had never seen or heard of before.  Thank you for saving my friend."  Lind then bowed which even the youths knew was a big deal.

The Emperor that ruled over them all bowed to their elders of their families!  No one would believe them!

"Emperor, it is time to go back.  Lord Linghu is waiting."  The new name made all jump.  The Immortals that served Emperor Frey were well known and made his power unbreakable yet joy was flowing in the world.

Crime still happened but war had become a legend in the last 500 years.

It was all thanks to one man changing the world back then and fighting a near impossible fight.  The youths that had once been bored now looked at the statues with new eyes.  It was strange to realize the stories they had heard so much were now much more real to them at that moment.

"Go in peace and be as happy as you can.  Thank you all once again."  Lind flew off with Lanbao in tow.  She would not let him out of her sight for a while.

"Could–could we hear the story one more time?"  A young girl suddenly spoke up and all the older people smiled as they nodded and spoke once more of the day they thought would be the end of how Lili saved them by taking their place.

"Will you be visiting the other memorials?"  Lanbao did not denigrate Lind's choice of spending the anniversary of Liberation Day.  It had been 50 years before it was even celebrated but centuries later it was now a festival near as popular as Foundation Day.

"I already stopped by most of the others.  Too many have died that I called a friend in that war."  She made no comment but knew it was more human than dragon from Lind.  Still, it made him who he was and she respected it.

"You have been restless lately.  What are you thinking?"  She asked a question that was a bit touchy at times but Lind simply sighed tiredly before they came to the Blood Ward.

Perot had been basically reclaimed by the Blood Sworn after Lili's death.  The Ward of War still had their roots back there but since war had come to an end, the ward merely became their production hub for weapons and armor.

They entered the teleportation array and returned to the Core Hall.

"Welcome back Emperor Frey and Lady Lanbao!"  A voice called out as a young man with a group of soldiers bowed low at them.  Unlike when Xing ran it, the Core Hall now had vibrant life in it.

Clerks, envoys, and various functionaries lived there.  Shi and Benny actually ran most of it currently.  Shi excelled at the bureaucratic side while Benny liked to cut through the processes that gummed up their progress.

Lind was convinced she enjoyed seeing the ministers look afraid when she came into a meeting.  It did help stop people from abusing their positions.

Gail and Gravis had officially taken over the Two Rivers as Lind's representatives.  Their family was well loved and had a simpler life since Lind was still in charge.  Gravis was just glad to have survived.

Sheena appeared suddenly as she looked at Lind sternly.  He sighed once more as he would likely get an earful later.

Still, given the day, she kept silent.  Honoring the dead was important but Sheena would make a huge patrol out of it if she went with him!

Lanbao smiled evilly and he knew she would abandon him to the nearly Amazonian woman!

They made their way to a changed meeting hall.  A table with 3 chairs surrounded it but one was higher than the others despite Lind's argument against it.  Lind took his seat as Lanbao took the one to his right.  Sheena took up a position behind him.

Linghu came out of the Core Room looking tired but happy.

"Emperor Frey, I finally finished our project!"  Lind's face lit up as a massive blue jade stone was carefully set down on the table.  It was a grade 7 communication stone.  It was the only thing that could breach the Law Binding!

For the last 500 years there had been so much to do but things had settled down about 200 years ago and allowed Lind to shift gears.  He had no way to leave yet, but reaching out was the next best thing.

He cut his finger and let his blood drop onto the stone which connected him to it.  He then looked to Linghu and Lanbao who both infused the stone.  It took an Immortal Realm to use it fully but Lind had to bind to make it connect to the person he needed.

[Ethry, can you hear me?]

He sent a simple message and waited.  It seemed like the pause was eternity, but then the stone lit up!

[Lin*******at****u?]

It was a mangled mess but the voice he knew as a familiar feeling came over him!  He looked to Linghu who was sweating but Lanbao looked stunned.

"Another Divine Dragon?!  Your mate is a Divine Dragon?!"  Her shock made him realize he had skipped a few things but he shrugged as a smile stretched over his face.

"Let's talk about that as Linghu tries to fine tune the communication stone.  I feel like you will be shocked a lot with what I am about to say."  Lind's smile was stunning to them all.  He then began speaking and even the guards inside the room only felt the world seem so small to them inside the Law Binding.

A mortal realm had so much going on while they were all trapped inside that cage for a million years?!  How was that fair?!
