Chapter 273 - 272 - Heart of a Gund*m
Chapter 273 - 272 - Heart of a Gund*m
"A shield. There is some kind of shield around us." It was not simply a boundary of the Inheritance space, but something else. It was far more profound than Lind could pierce but his current state of bursting with Qi was opening his mind.
He could not control Qi of such volume without a price but he had an idea. He put air and darkness into his body to make him faster than anything he had ever been before. Water and light flashed around the room to make copies of such realism that Yu was stunned he could not figure out what was real!
"How are you doing that?! You are an ant!" Lind felt his ears bleed as Yu put his Immortal aura into his voice. It was deafening but Lind down an elixir which made Yu's eyes narrow.
"An elixir master?! That is so unfair! I could barely refine despite all my attempts to do those fancy professions. I can't even make pills!!" Yu was clearly enraged but Lind finally made it to his target.
It was massive.
It had looked smaller but he was barely bigger than its toe. George would have been geeking out as the mobile suit matched the design of the pillars outside the entrance to the Inheritance.
"If my friend was right, anyone that made you hoped for peace and an end to war. The darkness that claimed innocence in numbers few could conceive of. If you were made with the same care and hopes of the man Yu used to be, please heed my call." Lind applied all he had learned to fill in the gaps.
The profound inscriptions could not be affected by Lind at all. Yet, he could still Forge using an image in his mind. He prayed he was right. There were fanboys that loved mecha battle but they would simply want to be the hero or villain depending on what they built and collected.
That version, though, George had gone on for weeks about the various incarnations all boiled down to a concept no matter if it was main timeline or stand alone adventures. Those machines were built to end war forever. To fight so innocents would no longer suffer.
The dark creature Yu was now, but when he created this mobile suit, it had to be a childhood dream. The frustration in his voice was real, Lind felt it.
His Qi fused with the mobile suit and the eyes glowed green before the head turned down to Lind. The hand moved and picked him up before putting him in the cockpit.
The action caught Yu's eyes but the cockpit sealed before he could act. It was working! The damned suit was working!
"Get out of that! It is mine! Wait, you are a Forger too??!!!!! What the fu–" Lind lost the last bit but he could fill in the blanks. The screens lit up and he had a 180 degree view as he grasped the controls.
He was unsure how it could work but he used his Forging and the inscriptions began to light up but too slowly. If Lind gave him enough time, Yu would break in. He had refined the suit after all.
Lind only connected the inscriptions on instinct and relying on the fly with George's many dictations on mobile suit functions.
"Fly, we have to fly." Lind began to push the storm of Qi harder through his meridians which were cracking from the pressure. He did not stop. Blood began to flow from his nose and eyes before he was pushed into the seat at last.
The inscriptions were lighting up but a warning began blaring. The radar flashed and opened a small screen in the larger to show Yu was flying after them. The rage on his face was clear but Lind had to buy time.
"Weapons." A list appeared and he frowned as all of them were named as expected but his senses told him over half did not work as hoped. It would suck all the Qi out of him and it was already taking a large amount to keep the suit working.
Ethry writhed but Lind reassured her before selecting the physical blades and head guns. The G-force slammed him to the left before Yu was on the main display with a target display.
Yu was shouting but Lind paid no mind as the metal sword was pulled from the back of the mobile suit. Pain flared in his right arm but Lind ignored it as the head guns unloaded and sword Qi flared. It was getting slippery to hold the controls and Lind saw blood pooling under his hands as his skin cracked.
He downed several elixirs to buy some time and heal him, but they barely put a dent in his now fraying meridians. The damage was still fixable but only just. If he stopped right now, he could restore himself, but that was not an option.
Bastion was still alive, he hoped, and he would not let the others who died be used by that monster in human flesh. The mobile suit unleashed the attack which caught Yu by surprise. The head cannons only made him dodge but the sword Qi attack was far more professional so it was harder to avoid.
Lind was satisfied to see Yu sent sprawling backwards out of control. He focused on the thrusters and was nearly flattened into the chair as clearly mobile suits had no gravity dampers like certain starships he could think of.
The vast Inheritance spread out from the massive complex below him. Just like all the rest he had seen, it was almost like a futuristic military base. He could see more suits of various factions George happily told him about.
"A little longer. I need to hold on a little longer." Lind was light headed and knew he was about to pass out when the speed slowed down. Lind was miles above the forests and base. He saw shining satellites arranged around the surface with fine lines of Qi connecting them.
"Analyze!" Lind had no chance of comprehending it, but the suit could! Lind hoped it could. A screen snapped on as wavelengths ran across it and numbers scrolled before an answer came back.
[Karmic Shield - Grade 7 - Low Quality]
Lind sneered. So, it was not so easy to perform this slaughter without a price.
The fist of the mobile suit slammed into the lattice but it just bounced off. In fact, the fingers looked to chip rather than hurt the shield. Lind tapped some buttons but nothing came up to help him. What could he do?
Before he could keep experimenting, he was nearly tossed out of the seat as the suit was flipped upside down and he had to stabilize his flight before he saw Yu was back.
"Do you think I would make something that could hurt my safety net?! What if it malfunctioned or I got off a lucky shot?!" It was remarkable common sense but Lind then wondered why Yu panicked so much. If the suit could not hurt the lattice, why did he rush after it so much?
Lind then looked at the satellites.
"What are the conditions of those satellites?" More data scrolled but Lind was knocked around as Yu attacked. Lind strained his cultivation more and his meridians began to shred apart. His dantian was cracking. Emerald light was actually leaking from his wounds!
[Lattice Generation Satellite - Grade 6 - High Quality]
Lind smiled. That was it! It was interesting that grade 6 artifacts could make a grade 7 shield but he had done similar things.
"I am dying. I don't know if such a thing exists in you, but a monster has replaced your creator. I need help to stop it. I need to stop innocents from being used as his cultivation resources." Lind was woozy and his arms weren't answering him any more.
His body was barely working but he forced his mind to work. He forced his soul to connect to the links he created in the suit.
Ethry's panic nearly overpowered him but he calmed her with his certainty. He had to do this. He had to stop the nightmare from continuing. Earth created that monster as much as cultivation.
"I need you to destroy that satellite." Lind saw the buttons blink and the levers move. Outside, the eyes of the mobile suit glowed with emerald light. Yu blinked as a beam rifle was pulled out.
"Are you kidding me?! You are an ant. I do not know how you got it to move but you have nowhere near the Qi needed to even spark that gun!" His sneer was wiped off as bright yellow light began to glow in the barrel as pressure on par with his Immortal cultivation came from it.
"Impossible, it is impossible!!" He raced to knock the gun away. It was strong enough at full strength. He had to stop it! The space between had been several kilometers but to an Immortal, it was but a couple steps.
Yu slammed his hand on the barrel which caused the energy to backfire and shatter the arm entirely off the mobile suit. He felt pained seeing that happen but he could always make another if needed. He was about to laugh when he saw the miserable form of Lind Frey.
He had to be dead. He had to be but then he saw the ant smile.
"I believe you should never underestimate a Gund–" Yu roared when the shattering sound silenced him. He slowly turned as he saw the energy blade discharge into the satellite it slicked in half!
"NO! NO! NO! NO!" Yu was panicking as the lattice fell apart. He did not even see the mobile suit fall from the sky before firing its thrusters one last time before falling backwards.
Lind smiled as he saw the shield collapse.
"Thank you. Thank you for everything." There was a flickering of lights in the cockpit before the machine went dark. Lind's meridians were shattered, his dantian nearly destroyed, his blood vessels were almost ruptured.
His life was over but he saw terrible black lightning gathering above as Yu screamed in fear.
"Sins are not washed away for convenience. I will see you in Hell, Yu." Lind was fading into darkness when a gentle voice began to yell, yet he could not respond. He knew who it had to be but a smirk was all he could cause as darkness was closing in.
"Lin! Lin! LIN!" Ethry was wailing and spoke the name of her beloved. The prismatic dragon roared into the Heavens as Yu stared at her.
"A dragon too! That is so unfai–" Yu was struck in frustration as black lightning ripped him apart. His cultivation was burned out and he fell from the sky. Despite the fall, he was hardly hurt by the impact. His Qi leaving caused far more pain to him.
"I don't want to die, I deserve to live forever!" He wailed but the lightning did not stop. His skin blackened and his wails ended as a twisted and horrific thing was left behind.
Bastion was about to faint but then was whisked away by golden light.
Ethry looked up as a gangly creature descended from the skies with coal black eyes and dark gold skin. It knelt to her before turning to the corpse.
"I beg pardon, my Lady. I am responsible for the enemy. I will disperse his soul. Your mate will no doubt find a reward in his next life." Ethry hissed in anger but the being ignored her. Its power was far beyond anything she had met but Lind was fading.
"Lin! Lin!" She roared and then a memory came back to her. She beamed her thoughts to the being which made it freeze. If it only showed perfunctory respect before, it now showed true respect.
"Such a choice is of course yours, but I would say he would not thank you. He chose to die to reveal this vile being to the Heavens. Still, yes, it would save him." Coal eyes looked into pale silver as Ethry nodded and a smile was evident on her reptilian face.
She looked lovingly at Lind before she began to glow like a sun. The being never looked away but it knelt in deep respect as it sent a prayer to the spirits.
When the light faded, only Lind remained but his flesh was restored and color hale.
The being was about to turn when emerald light flared like a new sun at the peak of the Iron Tier.
"LIKE HELL I WILL ALLOW THIS!!" Lind roared as his Qi exploded outward. The being was in shock at the level of control and moved back to the human. It was unexpected. It was all very unexpected.
