Lind had thought such a rich environment would propel him ahead at a rapid pace but despite feeling like he was close to his next Mystery, a century passed in the secluded space he now inhabited.
The diverse environments let him actually test many theories in his mind but it was essentially just play at that point. He had to start over at least twice to understand his environment rather than manipulate it.
It was only as he reviewed all he had accomplished that a thought took root in his mind.
How exactly did everything work?
He understood the process of cultivation very well. He understood refining Qi into higher quality and, in his case, his harmony as well. He understood that past the Heaven Realm filled in the gaps of elemental power missing from the Soul to the Sky Realm.
He understood Laws enhanced the Sliver to become the full Radiant Crystal to then become a Sovereign Tier. He understood Daos unlocked the next step to ascend to the Divine Realm.
Each step, Art, and process worked, yet he had not questioned the most basic thing.
While it had been a trial of a deadend timeline, he had gone back to old Earth. He had stood on the soil of his homeworld and understood there were trace amounts of Qi that brought life into it.
Qi was everywhere but why did higher density lead to such supernatural realms and worlds? Why did living beings grow stronger with absorbing it?
His eyes closed as he fell into the rabbit hole of why.
He stopped trying to control Qi and just examined the Origin Seeds fundamental power. He let his Eyes and Touch become observers of his Qi under his control and the background realm energies interacted.
He gave no instruction, he just watched.
He saw the interplay and without any interference, a shocking change occurred!
He saw coherent patterns form all on their own! Fire, earth, and light combined to condense into a potent crystal that fused into the soil.
Water, darkness, and air enriched the plants in the range of his aura to cause them to move to the next grade!
He saw many other combinations to produce various results! His far more potent Qi acted like a catalyst but it only sped up the process, it did not create it.
"The natural process is slower but the result is the existence of everything. The foundation of Heaven and Earth is Qi." No sensation of Mystery energy came to him but he felt like he was closer.
Why that was not a Mystery, he was unsure, but maybe the fact every Mystery had to be directly related to the subject of the layer prevented crossing them until they condensed. It was only a guess and of no help to him at the moment.
Lind spent almost 50 more years just watching the formation of natural treasures to the growth or changes in the existing plant life of the special realm.
After 150 years of meditation and study, his eyes went wide.
"It can't be–" His old thoughts surged but focused on a single point in his cultivation journey. The transition from a Body Refining Realm to the Soul Realm. Demons and humans were heavily distinguished at that moment.
Natural Qi became Soul Cores while demonic Qi condensed the demon Soul Cores. He always assumed it was bloodline that dictated that but he now doubted it.
It was always his assumption the Fiends had somehow created the demonic races by refining their Qi or Celestials refining their Qi to create demons.
He had been so wrong! However demonic Qi came into existence, it was the Qi itself that birthed the demon race!
The Body Refining Realm was not just about improving the body but bringing it to the saturation point that the Qi would tip the scales and open a new Realm for the cultivator!
A compatible body was still needed but that was the whole point of the Body Refining Realm.
"Qi is the Heart of Possibility!" Lind was snapped out of his enlightenment as a storm of Mystery energy slammed into him. Why was it so strong?!
He quickly focused on regulating it but just like the first Qi Mystery, it was like nothing was spared or looked over! His entire foundation was elevated by an insane amount and his body pushed to its limits!
His meridians strained as the energy flowed to every corner while his dantian shone with emerald light as his harmony was further improved and reached into all his previous layers once more.
His Origin Seeds dramatically improved in potency as he realized he could feel the interactions of the elements as if he always had the skill! He could trace the power of each contact and see the actual possibilities when it happened!
Fire and water had the greatest potential for creating a treasure. Earth and air were key to enhancement or strengthening things. Light and darkness were like the catalysts that tipped the scales between those forces.
As he saw all the combinations, he realized why some things were so rare to so common! He saw the spectrum as his Eyes burned in pain to take it all in!
He had underestimated the Mystery by far! The fact Qi was the key to all possibilities had been overlooked by him for so long. Many assumed cultivators were just born with Talents, skills, and so forth to become what they would be.
That was wrong.
The density of Qi was what unlocked those doors to the next realms. Even if a human was very poor in constitution, it was well known that special treasures or opportunities could change that.
What was being changed? It was how much the Qi was compatible with the body!
The Qi was essential to every major and minor realm. His harmony was forged in the same way as the Qi fed into it to advance it as well!
No matter how complex cultivation became, Qi remained essential! Laws, Daos, and Mysteries were all built on the foundation of Qi!
The multi-colored layer grew until only a third remained empty but the drastic increase in his power shocked him deeply. Origin Mysteries did not explain it either. He understood more about what Mysteries were.
He was piecing together the very possibilities compatible with him, the previous layers he condensed, and the transformed Qi of the highest quality of the Divine Lands. All 3 had to come together to trigger the Mysteries.
It started in his mind but his Qi was what reached out and actually started it. The reason some conclusions did not trigger had more to do with the path he had walked than anything.
He had put a sort of restriction on his Qi and it had to resonate before it could pull on the Mystery energy to condense it into his dantian.
Lind then felt new horror arise.
The Bastard had not broken the Qi, he had abused it! He had broken the rules of Heaven and Earth, yet the possibility for that came from the Qi. It was a very damned remote chance, but it existed!
The Bastard had understood it or stumbled on it in the spirit world. Either way, the birth of Fiends had come from the corruption of the Qi. It was how he broke the realms!
It was not him breaking the rules to become a Fiend by punishment but by forcing the rules of Heaven and Earth to make it happen!
Lind felt anger but also a trace of respect. He had not understood that concept until the current moment but a far weaker Bastard had pierced the veil long before becoming a Divine Fiend.
Such a great mind had been unwilling to accept a fixed end and had truly found a way out. Had he maybe thought about the costs? Had he understood or just grasped the goal and damn the results?
Lind would never know and it no longer mattered. It did, however, make him glad he had not waited. He had to cut off as much support as he could before the Bastard returned to his peak.
The special realm felt like it was nearly drained around him. Condensing a single Mystery did that?
Could he use it to reach the peak of the Journeyman Tier? He doubted it but the time dilation could buy him his best chance to lay the groundwork.
He also had to explore his new powers better. Just seeing possibilities was not the whole of it, he was sure. He even felt an idea take hold for his future battles but he would need to fight someone on par with him to test that.
Ethry might be a good match up too.
Lind closed his eyes and consolidated his recent gains. His foundation was far from shaky but he wanted to grasp the final Mystery of the Journeyman Tier if he could. The insane increases of the last 2 led him to believe he was building up to another one.
What would his last Mystery be in the Journeyman Tier? Would he become a Master Tier or understand what the next step was?
Considering what he had just grasped he almost laughed. He had the key already, he just had to understand how to use it!
He just had to keep going and begin to head southeast once he left. Time was running out no matter how much advantage the current place gave him. The Bastard would make his move soon.
