Chapter 1679 - 1678 - Gray Line
Chapter 1679 - 1678 - Gray Line
"ROOOOAAAARRRR" Dragons caused the very world to shake as they screamed across the skies. Flames scorched the battlefield as blood so thick it almost covered the entire surface, covered the land.
Corpses piled on both sides and were left behind as no one had time to spare.
It was but one of many places along the Eastern Wilds that marked off the buffer between the Fiend lands proper and the rest of the Divine Lands.
Small pockets might exist elsewhere but even Fiends had limited manpower and resources. No matter how long they lived, they could still be killed and thus never achieved victory by quantity alone.
The current forces were a mix of so many races that none could differentiate any segment but the sole exception were the Harmonic Dragons.
They were seemingly everywhere and their fire breath had brought them many victories in the last few centuries.
Sadly, they were all stuck at the Apprentice Tier.
The Fiends Journeyman Tiers had risen up and given a kind of stalemate by sheer power alone. They had also learned a trick to deal with both those dragons and the 6 elementals that had been so dangerous for so long.
They simply cut off all connections to artifacts, thralls, or anything about to be struck by attacks. It was not foolproof but it instantly isolated the level of damage they could previously do.
Still, it only stopped it. It did not overcome it.
The once lush trees that had towered for untold epochs with diverse beasts and plants sheltering under them had been reduced to ash by the battles that now the Gray Line was all that remained.
There was no longer any concerted effort on either side at the moment as it simply became a matter of living and killing.
Suddenly, a distant mountain behind the Fiends vanished! A thunderous roar followed and pressure slammed all into the ground like they were nothing!
[THAT BASTARD! WHAT HAS HE DONE?!] A vile voice scoured all minds, even other Fiends, equally.
Yet, as if in response to the clear attack from a Master Tier, all the Harmonic Dragons suddenly flared with emerald light that shattered the binding on them!
They quickly flapped their wings if they had them and covered their allies in the emerald light.
A stark spike in Fiend Qi was followed by the appearance of a shadow with white eyes.
[Vile snakes! DI–] Just as all expected to be snuffed out, the Heavens rumbled. Shockingly, it made the figure pause. He looked up at the gathering black clouds from a once clear sky and sneered. [You are not my–]
A bolt of emerald lightning slammed into him and struck him down!
True Lords among the beasts felt it then. Authority! The felt Authority in that lighting!
The crater made by his impact blew up as he roared back into the sky but his mystique was stripped away.
A rather plain looking man with damaged black robes now floated in the air.
[LIND FREY! I WILL KILL YOU AND ALL YOUR–] As if ignoring his rage, prismatic flames shot him down from the sky. A prismatic Divine Ryuu roared followed by several figures wielding weapons and artifacts filled with emerald Qi!
[Bastard! Do you have the face to even say anything? I, a mere Journeyman Tier dragon, bested you!] The various millions of FIends became grim but the expected outburst did not come.
Instead, the Great One slowly stood up and looked at Ethry coldly. Slowly, a smile spread on his face as a deadly calm filled the air.
[You are right. Shouting is not productive. Much better that I demonstrate my sincerity!] A black sphere suddenly swallowed all the Harmonic Dragons in an instant! The emerald aura had not save them at all!
Ethry's prismatic eyes went wide but oddly, he did not harm a hair on any of her family's heads. He simply looked at them smiling as the surviving Harmonic Dragons were wiped out.
The message was clear. Heaven and Earth had a bottom line but so long as he did not cross it, his power was unstoppable. Without the Harmonic Dragons, there was nowhere near enough power to keep the stalemate!
It was only then that a thunderous clap of power shattered the skies. A massive vessel appeared that blocked the sun!
All realized it was above the clouds and even the Great One had his eyes go wide in shock.
[YOU DARE?!] Lind Frey's voice thundered as a spike in all elements were felt by the entire surviving forces but that was not all. The Fiends felt a tremor in their souls as another set of elements flared they recognized!
Eighteen beams of power flared to condense into a power far greater than the lighting bolt previously! Emerald harmonic Qi none had ever felt then slammed into the current Fiend side and none of them could escape it!
Save one.
The Great One batted it aside but then frowned as his arm was destroyed. He then retreated briefly but the beam followed! The ship moved with him until he was forced to retreat so far before the final insult came.
The back side had 2 panels slide open and a terrifying level of aura flared that even the Great One felt threatened.
The wide spread beams wiped out the entire frontline of Apprentice and Journeyman Tier Fiends!
On the top deck, a figure emerged and looked down at the Great One.
[Care to try me?] Lind's aura flared and all were shocked! Heaven layer Journeyman Tier!
Only a Journeyman Tier but he was able to harm a Master Tier?! While others were shocked, his wives were not.
The Great One pondered but the ship was a clear threat. While the losses were large at one battle, there were still billions of Fiends across the Divine Lands.
[You have bought time, nothing else.] The Great One then vanished back to the destroyed mountain but the surprises did not stop there.
[Bastard, do you think I am that lazy?] Lind Frey then seemed to command something and various panels slid aside to reveal even more cannons!
Yet, all opposite the surviving Fiends rejoiced as sigils began to appear enmasse.
A terrifying wall of harmonic Qi slowly spread and kept going north and south until it was beyond all auras present!
Ethry and the other wives smiled but then frowned as Lind stumbled. It was clear the last move cost him personally!
They flew up to him as the masses below rejoiced! Lind Frey had become a powerhouse for them! The war could finally face a turning point!

Lind felt like a new born calf. He had almost no strength left as the barrier was hastily channeled from him.
A century of work and he had exhausted everything to bluff the Bastard!
He had rushed to his family because he knew his actions on Emerald Isle would affect the Bastard.
His advancement also gave him confidence to fend off the Bastard but not kill him. He had been surprised his ship could hurt the thrice cursed being but that was all.
Others might think he could already win but only he knew the Bastard was hardly hurt, only inconvenienced. The greater damage was the loss of his pawns.
The Bastard was powerful but even he had to bow to the combined might of Master Tiers. Those peak existences still held sway even over Fiends.
Lind was about to fall over when a pair of gentle arms hugged him close. He looked up to see Shoti smiling down at him.
"Husband, you have been negligent." He smiled up at her and saw his wives had all ascended. Some he could tell used pills or elixirs to induce their ascension but their foundation was stable.
He smiled at them but then Yue emerged and instantly he felt many pairs of eyes bore into him. How did they know?!
His wives swarmed her and he could not help her but their instinct was terrifying in his eyes.
Yue was very respectful and Lysanna and Annabelle quickly took a liking to her but the others were not so easily swayed.
Fey then suddenly showed up and glared at Yue with her peak Journeyman Tier aura! Since when did she reach such a height?!
Lind had no time to explain before Yue was whisked away. His family was ruthless!
He could only sigh as he focused on restoring the power of his ship. It had exhausted all he had gathered to fight the Bastard so now he needed to prepare to head to the Northern Continent for whatever opportunity the Divine Lord had told him about.
It would take a decade of pure recharging to recover that power once more so he had time. Still, he surveyed the tragic battleground and knew he had to take care of things there before doing anything else.
He downed an elixir and got to work healing and guiding those he could. Whatever was in the Northern Continent should help him but he had to ensure the world did not rely on such a timely intervention again.
It would not work for one but also, he was still only 1 man. He could not be everywhere. His little trick would hinder the various forces but only for a short time.
When that time was up, everyone needed to be able to step up!
