Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 1612 - 1611 - Samsara Breaks the Chains

Chapter 1612 - 1611 - Samsara Breaks the Chains

Lind was unsure how long the chaos ensued but holes opened in the Glass Palace city. Before, there were so many Fiends that even taking a breath would not be missed but now, after the chaos, gaps appeared.

Lind quickly led Karu to them and allowed them to stabilize his foundation and re-establish their disguises far better than before.

His new Mystery fascinated him. Samsara breaks the chains of life and death was potent in concept. He had shattered fate already by his harmony but he realized being reborn broke the previous restrictions of the original life.

It was so basic to himself that he came back to it long ago to sever the chains of fate that tried to bind his current life to doom against the Bastard.

When a person died, the weight of that life shattered so a new one could begin unfettered. He knew people believed Samsara was pure reincarnation but it incorporated all varieties of rebirth.

His direct reincarnation was the most stark but far less likely result. The more likely was a severance of all the past.

Any karmic reward or retribution was applied but after that, they were free to rise or fall in their next life.

Whatever new chains they would incur would only apply to the current life alone.

The Mystery allowed him to enhance his Talents as a direct result of its aspect. His Eyes officially upgraded to be able to perceive the chains of fate on everyone! He also noticed they varied.

Some were shining silver in color while others were corroded things barely holding on and everything in between.

A few were black or gold and he recognized karmic fate there. It was fascinating and also very draining.

Before, he could use his Eyes almost indefinitely, but with the new feature, he found his dantian drained at an alarming rate!

Still, the city around the Glass Palace revealed a truth he had suspected for a long time.

A slender, faint, and very difficult to detect chain wove over everything. It was not from Heaven and Earth, but a very grounded source!

The damned Bastard really was tweaking all of reality to become his food!

He now understood the Realm Refiner was just a blunt object approach to a much more terrifying method!

It took longer and no doubt faced a hell of an uphill battle to pull off without triggering Heavenly Wrath but an all too familiar feeling came from that chain.

"Void of Heaven." He had not seen that technique in a long time. Below the Celestial Fields, Fiends faced Heavenly Wrath unless they could make a foothold and corrupt the heart of the realm or area they took over.

The Void of Heaven made a literal place absent of Heaven and Earth but he had wondered how they did it. It just made no sense to him.

Yet, if it tied to that very faint chain, it could do it. The Great Bastard broke the rules and still endured. It meant he was partially outside the rules of Heaven and Earth!

He used that state to empower his fellow Fiends, his victims, into spreading their power and letting that chain reach every corner of existence.

Lind understood! The Bastard could not advance without the sacrifice of trillions of lives but the entirety of the Divine Lands was not enough. He needed it all!

To step beyond, to reach the next level was nearly impossible for him who violated all the rules of Heaven and Earth so he created a new system that ravaged his enemy to win!

It was only a matter of time. Time was the only limiting factor at that point!

He also understood a bit of why Karu was stunned by his power. He was as strong as cultivators could become if they were not being slowly consumed by the damned Great Bastard!

The futures where all life died was solely down to the fact the Bastard had weakened everyone. The Fiends were able to be killed. They only had longevity and vile Qi that breached unprepared defenses.

Even before he came along, it was clear that Qi existed to combat them if given the right form or intent. Laws were potent against them too but the Fiends seemed to keep coming back no matter what.

They always seemed far too powerful to ever be extinguished. He had assumed their longevity and extreme long-term view that went with it was the cause. The acceptance of failure for long term gain had happened over and over again.

Instead, it was that damned Bastard! He was pushing the future as far as he dared without alerting Heaven and Earth.

Lind then glanced at Karu with his new vision.

The instant he did, he nearly passed out! She was a nexus of chains! Colors he had seen in no one else bound her like a tight web or cocoon. He also saw more than he should as his mind reeled but then an odd thing occurred.

His newly condensed Mystery flared in his dantian and instantly drained him to nothing. Yet, his mind cleared and he felt lighter. He realized 2 things before he passed out that time.

One, his Eyes were dangerous. If he looked at something that touched on levels of power beyond him, it could react to him and bind him back!

Two, his new Mystery was literal. He had understood the power of Samsara to shatter the chains of everything to start over! It clarified his previous Mysteries even further!

It took 2 days to wake up, during that time, the chaos outside had settled but Lind noticed differences.

The Fiends had left enmasse somewhere. Karu had no idea what happened but he suspected they were operating off script.

Kexin and Tessa had caused a row somewhere and kicked a lot of thralls or Fiends where it hurt.

While the Bastard seemed in control of the Fiends, they were still able to screw up and fail so it was not total.

Now, a clear threat and location was known. Why the Southern Continent Fiends left, he had no idea but likely they were shifting around.

It seemed they tried to cover the continents by spreading wide nets of thralls and agents while the main body resided on another continent from them.

An ingenious network of spies and one long employed by the Fiends. The massive size of the Divine Lands meant such a thing was needed for special realms or other treasures that could appear.

Also, their enemies never knew where they were lurking until it was too late. If a thrall succeeded in breaching a powerful foe, they could consume that body and transport themselves instantly from one place to another without a ripple!

Now, that network was threatened. They were sending their main bodies, that survived, to the Eastern Continent because they knew his past.

Once his family and friends started, they were like a wave.

If they stood any chance of containing the damage, they had to strike when they were weakly ascended.

Without any Mysteries, fresh Divine Realms were lambs to slaughter but he sneered.

"Karu, guard me." She looked confused as he assumed a lotus position.

His new Mystery did something he desperately needed now. He focused on the chains and connections around him

There were myriad, beyond counting but now he sought a single thread in it.

His aura changed as his harmony began to spread in a place no one else could see or detect save Karu felt a chill to her very core.

Heaven and Earth rumbled but no other reaction came from the sky.

The room fell away and he saw only the vast tapestry behind existence.

He flew into a space that did not have distance, time, or any concept others would grasp but Lind had touched on it. He began to truly understand Mysteries. They were grasping the more fundamental power behind existence but why?

Why did Divine Realms need that kind of power? Why would Heaven and Earth allow beings to grasp power that could lead to a threat to it?

He pushed it aside as questions only drained his personal time. He could feel his dantian, freshly recovered, was quickly drying up but he finally found it.

He had shattered the chains on his family. He had taught them and his new Mystery let him find them wherever they were, even behind his shield!

[Hear me. The Divine Lands are against us. The Great Bastard has revealed his desperation by offering a bounty few can resist to turn on me. That will cause many to hunt but the Fiends have underestimated me. Unlock the vault in the Throne. Ascend with the best weapons for Fiends I have and unleash them on arrival.]

Lind barely felt the words arrive when he was snapped back into his body. Sweat had pooled around him and he actually looked pale as a ghost. Compared to looking at Karu, using the Mystery was far more dangerous!

He was passing out again but a sneer was on his face.

Tables were now turned, Bastard!
