Chapter 1592 - 1591 - Who Hunts the Hunters?
Chapter 1592 - 1591 - Who Hunts the Hunters?
Lind was aggressive as he descended down into the small mountain. There were several arrays to warn of intruders but he sneered as his harmony hid him from detection.
Rather than destroying them, he slipped through like a whisper into the dark. He was confused on a few points. While there was a Divine Realm in the town, thus far he only encountered grade 7 or Law Grade defenses.
Would someone really hunt a Divine Realm with so little power? He doubted that.
He activated his Eyes and Touch. Sure enough, he found hidden traps. They were not too complex but he could not trick himself past them.
It took some time to find the anchors or nodes to unravel them. He knew that would reveal they were invaded but it still seemed odd.
Eventually, he heard footsteps but he used demonic Qi to blend into the shadows. He then used Celestial Qi to hide his aura.
"They are just ahead! Take them alive!" A voice echoed but he did not believe for a moment it was real. The steps, too, were too convenient.
He heard the footsteps pass him by but no one was there. He waited and then a group of 3 appeared with strange staves in their hands. His Eyes showed an actual threat to him. They were engraved with sigils at Dao Grade!
He also saw that each person was a Journeyman Tier! Lind waited until they were about to pass him when emerald light filled the tunnel.
Three emerald blades sliced them in 2 before they realized what happened. His Eyes then saw a shocking thing.
A faint piece of them returned to their bodies! What was that?!
The horror on their faces confirmed something was odd but he did not understand what was happening. What were those after images? What was his Art doing to them?
He had no idea yet but the lead gave him an avenue to explore. The 3 corpses also were odd. It was like they lost something after death and became less.
He found the storage treasure and put them in his ring. He would examine them later. He descended but then things got difficult.
There were 3 passages to choose from and the bastards had intentionally trapped them all with the same set of traps. There was nothing to distinguish them but only a human would be stymied by that tactic.
His nose inhaled and a strong scent came from the far left passage. He narrowed his eyes as it seemed too easy.
He dismantled all the traps starting with the left and waited.
He was not disappointed as 5 Journeyman Tier came from the central passage.
"Quickly, catch them in the dead end!" They went down the left path. Lind did not spare a thought as he quickly used his Art to fill that tunnel with death. He saw the same phenomenon as before but he finally understood what was happening.
His Art was restoring the missing piece to his targets. So why was it killing them? What was he missing?
Why did they die? Truly die?
He had made the Art shift true, but he still did not understand what it was doing to them. He only intended to sever their current existence. He knew Divine Realms were hard to kill but his Art could damage them.
It was not only meant for protection but offense as well.
He was delving into the depths of his Art and it had far more to it than even he had grasped.
It seemed disturbingly effective against Divine Realm cultivators. Why?
He would need to study it more but he killed his foes without a problem and moved down the right passage. He doubted the ambushers would come from the real passage.
Sure enough, he heard the sounds of crying for mercy. He saw cages holding both seal beasts and humans.
He also sensed the bodies. Some had died!
His anger increased as he entered a massive room beneath the surface. Cages were in his range with tortured and disfigured people.
It was not just from Shadow Seal Cove!
Lind moved like a shadow while hiding his presence. He had killed silently but they had to suspect something soon as there were no sounds of battle. He also wanted to know how they planned to incapacitate him without destroying the entire tunnel system.
He would hold back due to the hostages, but would they?
He doubted it.
As he moved through the large room he heard voices but they were just more screams as he came upon an area more well lit.
A simply artifact floated over a pair of men beating an old man who huddled over a little girl. His broad frame and tusks showed he was a beast but the girl was human. Lind glanced around to be sure he would not be interrupted.
He found an annoying array hidden in the next tunnel tied to the 2 men! They were an alarm system but he sneered as his finger lit up and sliced the trace connecting them. He quickly tied it off with ease and the array simply sat there as if nothing was wrong!
The men, however, sensed the change and stopped what they were doing. They had dark beards and fine skin as Immortal but their weapons were the problem. They were also trapped!
If he killed the men, the formations would trigger and also send an alarm. The result was a tail whipping so fast it made only a streak of emerald before both were knocked out and collapsed.
He waited but nothing else happened. He then examined the old man but his body was very tough. He had much older scars from both weapons and claws.
The blood had pooled around him from where various injuries had been ripped open but the man still lived.
Lind confirmed he was only a Radiant Tier before administering an elixir to him. His wounds not only closed but his scars faded somewhat! The little girl was still crying but now she was holding his hand.
Lind did nothing to stop her as her cries bought him the time to heal the man. His eyes flickered open and he looked confused before jumping up and pulling the girl away from Lind.
He smiled and held up his hands before quietly pointing to the 2 unconscious men.
He put a finger to his lips before the man spoke. His leather trousers were heavily damaged but not by the attackers. It looked like they were simply worn out. The little girl too was wearing similarly old clothing.
He examined the cages and noticed only rags on everyone but enough to cover them.
[Stay here and do not speak aloud.] He risked a transmission and the beast man nodded quickly. The 2 torturers were quickly searched and he found a key artifact that matched the cages. He passed it to the man and then continued down the tunnel.
He found a plethora of formations but they were all keyed to respond to the alarm he had silenced. Still he took a moment to make sure there was nothing else. As he descended, he felt something off.
His draconic instincts were reacting to something and his body did not like it at all. He quickly covered himself in harmonic Qi. The feeling vanished but he could not see anything with his Eyes.
He tried his Touch and found the air was heavier than it should be. Physical things were not obstructed but Qi was. He was confused but moved on until he actually felt his harmonic Qi was not sufficient!
He found a bend and the sensation was finally strong enough that his movements were slightly impaired.
Only 1 thing made sense. A Mystery Grade artifact!
Lind paused as using such a powerful artifact was indeed more than enough to trap him but it seemed it was a kind of area of effect object. It meant that his foes had some way to negate it.
It also explained how they took Shadow Seal Cove without causing much damage.
Lind peeked around the corner and found 3 figures in front of a sphere mounted on a pillar. It was all made of dark metal but the inscriptions were what drew his eye most! They were profound!
Still, formations are formations. No matter how impressive, they had obvious weak points. The only question was how powerful were the protections?
Lind debated and chose the only real option he had. A single thread of his Qi would never cross the room in the current circumstances. That left only him.
He then transformed his hands into claws and his skin into scales. The feeling of oppression increased and it made him grasp that perhaps the bounty hunters were immune by design rather than with another artifact.
That or it was more effective on beasts but either way, he did not care.
He increased his harmonic Qi barrier and then tapped into his own Mysteries. Power flowed in his veins before he became a blur.
The man at the front just barely saw him and looked shocked but all 3 were Journeyman Tier! They sneered as they produced some kind of lassos.
Lind ignored them as he leapt up and over them!
A woman on his right actually laughed as she understood his target.
"You foolish beast! No one can–" Whatever she had been about to say died as his claws shattered the inscriptions! He could not damage the metal at all and it hurt to hit it but inscriptions were far easier to mess up at the regulation nodes!
The suppression vanished as his reptilian eyes locked onto them.
Fear trickled in them for a moment but they quickly snapped out of it as they were far stronger than him. He also saw a black jade in the final man's hands. Lind vanished once more and the man screamed as his hand was gone!
They had relied on that artifact for too long! Their movements were dull to the point he could track them!
Still, he did not linger nor rely on that. As the 3 turned to him he sneered and snapped his fingers.
Three emerald blades shot out from the location of the artifact. The woman and the man with the lost hand died instantly.
Shock flared on the final man but he seemed to linger before black smoke emerged from his body.
"So, a thrall. If you can see me, I am coming for you all soon enough!" The eyes shifted to the disturbing form of the Fiend but then the face turned to horror as it was burned from the inside out.
Lind turned and left the corpses as he wanted to ensure there were no more surprises.
