Chapter 1537 - 1536 - Bottomless Well
Chapter 1537 - 1536 - Bottomless Well
The Throne of Living Flame was essentially an ideal place for phoenix races to nurture and thrive compared to most of the Celestial Fields. The lower layers may have suitable places but the 4th layer allowed for a place that their life cycle not only was safe but could allow them to fully flesh out their rebirth process as well!
Normally, the moment of rebirth was the greatest threat to a phoenix, when True Death could be brought on them, but the Throne of Living Flame automatically engulfed the ashes of an expired phoenix until their own rebirth flames could take over.
The egg would reform or a direct rebirth was even possible!
That was not all, the Throne of Living Flame allowed the phoenix races and their lower bloodline brethren to heal far better than outside in the world. It was called the Living Flame for a reason, after all.
It was that last ability that gave the Throne of Living Flame a false sense of hope for many. Some cultivators had horrific injuries that only peak Law Grade pills or elixirs might help.
Sadly, the Throne's power had no effect on anyone without a trace of phoenix blood in their body. Even then, the lower the quality or quantity, the less effect it had.
At least, normally that was true.
A young woman was currently staring in shock at the emerald haired man laid out on the stone bed. He had been brought up from the Hollow Land areas of their Throne but she had been called when the guards noticed an odd flow of energy.
She was the head administrator of the True Lord's healing ward. It was set aside especially for his guests or those he chose to teach if they were injured in combat. It was used often as phoenixes were extremely difficult to kill.
Thus, they tended to ignore most injuries until they became serious.
There was no one else in the room due to the special nature of the current occupant but that was not what flustered her to the point her crimson gold hair nearly stood on end.
She was a Sky Phoenix and thus privy to many of the secrets of the Throne, yet what she saw before her was flat out impossible!
Pure Dao energy was flowing into the man prone on the stone bed. His skin, which was reported to have been pale on arrival, was now healthy but he showed no sign of waking up!
What was going on?! She touched a portion of the bedside and a slab ejected that usually let her examine a patient but what she saw on the slab made no sense!
It was like his body was perfectly healthy but his soul and dantian were not detected at all! His elements were also nowhere to be seen!
How was he even alive let alone absorbing pure Dao?! How was Dao being pulled at all?!
"Honestly, how much trouble can he cause?" A voice made her jump as she had not sensed anyone even close! She whirled around and her dark green robes flared out briefly but her cream colored face went pale as she saw who it was!
Azure hair! Red wine eyes! She trembled as she slammed her head onto the floor.
"THIS UNWORTHY ONE GREETS THE TRUE LORD!" A long sigh left him as put his hand to his forehead but she did not look up, she simply knew from experience how he reacted.
"Every time–Melina, I have said over and over, you are too high up to be doing this." She shivered as he used her name. She felt blessed!
As if reading her mind, his eyes narrowed before he summoned a crystal tablet. It was similar to the connected slab but of far higher grade. Still, his face scrunched up at what he saw.
"That is impossible. How is he not being killed?" She finally looked up at that. The artifact he used could see more and she was genuinely curious.
He handed it down to her and she took it into her arms. Her devotion was set aside as her professional skill came to the fore.
She looked at the tablet and frowned as much as her beloved True Lord.
The subject was not just absorbing Dao, he was like a bottomless pit! The amount of energy registered on the crystal tablet exceeded any sane value possible!
A normal cultivator would be burnt to ash with no chance of their soul surviving.
"Wh–wh–what is this?!" The man was a dragon! He was not a phoenix nor did he carry a trace of their blood!
So why was their Throne responding to his condition at all?!
"I have some guests arriving soon. Hopefully, we might get some–" He paused before looking to an empty area of the room. Soon, a tear formed and a pair came out.
Melina nearly passed out as 2 more True Lords arrived!
The roc and tortoise True Lords were legends! A nose bleed began as she smiled creepily at that moment. Her own True Lord sighed before bowing to them.
"Seniors, it seems our fellow True Lord is at it again." He took the crystal tablet back and handed it to them. The usually fractious nature was nowhere to be seen as their visages became grim.
"This boy just does not know when to quit. He can't cultivate like that!" The Tortoise True Lord looked annoyed but her companion actually seemed to contemplate more on the results.
"We can't fault him. If he had not acted at that moment, we all would be truly dead. You felt what happened after, right?" The slim Roc True Lord spoke and his words seemed to make sense to his 2 fellow True Lord but left her in the dark.
"Still, you 2 agree this is insane, right? A dragon is absorbing the Dao intrinsic to all phoenix clans. Even though dragons are also beasts of fire, they are not that close to it!" The Tortoise True Lord spoke once more.
Melina nodded as she spoke but her own True Lord shook his head.
"Holding Lind to those standards won't work. His elemental nodes already are outside what we understand and his harmony is uncharted territory. The fact he made those impossible things in the first place should dash any hope of normalcy." Melina only followed about half of that.
Nodes? Did that refer to the elemental cores fused into the crystal of the dantian?
"True Lord, what is the state of the patient?" Gone was the fan girl and a healer now asked for clarity on her patient. All 3 True Lords looked reluctant to answer at first but then shrugged.
"The truth is, we are not sure. True Lord Lind Frey, in many ways, has already become a Divine Realm cultivator but his foundation and his soul are lagging. Due to that, he is stuck." The Roc True Lord revealed a shocking and difficult to accept situation.
She looked back as the flow of fiery Dao flowed into the emerald haired man. She frowned as she began to pace.
No one was a bottomless pit. There was a limit to what Qi, Laws, and Dao one could absorb or incorporate into their foundation. If what the 3 True Lords said was true, the person in front of her was horrifically imbalanced.
She summoned an elixir from her ring that shimmered with golden flecks and shifted between gold and green. It was a healing elixir for dantians.
It was damned rare and difficult to produce but a phoenix needed them badly during rebirth many times.
Thus, she had a decent supply compared to other powers. She administered the elixir and just like the flow of Dao energy, Lind Frey absorbed it but she was able to trace it!
"Meridians fine, dantian fine, body fine, soul fine, and mind fine. That leaves the actual elemental centers. Could they be drained?" Regardless of the name, all cultivators needed their elemental Qi to be on par with the rest.
If Lind's exceeded his current state, then the issue became the state of the nodes.
"True Lord, how long would it take to resupply Dao centers of power?" Unlike others of their race, True Lords could delve into the entire race memory.
The silence stretched for a long time but all 3 then shrugged in unison!
"Blasted boy is just too far outside the norm!" The Tortoise True Lord blew up but the other 2 only nodded.
"The truth is, Melina, Lind Frey is walking a path no one has ever tried before. We have no reference to compare nor any guide. The best guess I can give you is you are right. His nodes were drained and had to recover with the meager Dao power of the Throne." Melina started at describing the power of a Throne as meager.
She looked at the passed out figure but they all jumped when a dark skinned bald man appeared.
His tan robes were very fine but all 3 True Lords bowed low to him!
"There is no need for that. Master sees you all as his friends. The young Sky Phoenix is correct. His elemental nodes are depleted and only the power of your Throne can help. They can accept any compatible energy, thankfully." The strange man spoke but Melina felt a cold sweat break out on her body.
He was powerful! Far beyond even the pressure of a True Lord!
"Guardian, will he awaken?" The bald man seemed to do something but then shook his head.
"Like you, I am in the dark regarding my current Master. He is just too different. The fact he needs so much power to recover shows his elemental nodes no longer belong in the Celestial Fields but his foundation and soul lag behind. He has done much to improve his condition but now he is truly stuck." The group accepted his verdict.
"When will he awaken?" Melina asked and his dark eyes bore into her. She had no secrets from him!
The man sighed before shrugging his shoulders.
"He invoked his Authority, removed a grave threat to the entire world, and then had karmic restitution. Normally, some rest and time would solve it but he is special as you can see. Based on a very rough guess, years, if not centuries. All we can do is give him time." The group nodded and the 3 True Lords left her.
She then summoned a rotation of trusted observers to keep an eye on her patient. It was likely to be a long haul but she knew her True Lord trusted her to take care of their guest.
