Lind felt a sense of deja vu.
The last time the pair had truly fought was back in the Floating Isles. She had nearly been consumed by her heart demons then.
Back then, it had been a desperate battle to save his daughter but now, it was a battle ordained by the Heavens to test her.
The restrictions on his movements and powers vanished entirely. It was clear that the Heavens gave him a choice.
He could leave but Fey would then fail her ascension. She would likely survive but her foundation would be ruined.
He had to ascend. The Great Bastard was a threat to them all and he could not wait yet, he was not just anyone.
He was her Father.
"Fey, can you hear me?" He tried to talk to her but she only raised her blades. He frowned at that. It would be laughably easy for him to shatter them. They were nearly destroyed by the Fiend Qi and twisted Dao she had employed.
[I will arm her.] He spoke to above and something shifted as confusion bloomed on her pale face. He could not wait as he simply pulled the blades from her.
His soul was healed and he was at peak condition. Forging flowed around him as the metal became molten with ores and sigils appeared around him. The elements and actual Daos flowed around him.
He also used Life and Death Dao. He made her blades unlike anything the 4th layer had ever seen but it was still only pseudo-Dao weapons.
He tossed them back to her and it seemed Heaven and Earth were satisfied.
Fey assumed a stance he was more than familiar with. He also felt a new restriction, if it could be called that, on his dantian.
He had to use Dao immediately and nothing lower. His nodes actually fully unlocked! He felt his full elemental power for the first time since they formed and realized what was happening.
The tribulation was letting him experience a state close to the Divine Realm!
[Was she that powerful?] He asked Haro but the ring spirit had no time to answer as she vanished to all his senses! Lind did not mess around as he summoned his scales and his tail!
The sound of metal on scale was heard and he felt pain! She was able to shatter his scales with ease! He knew it, however and used it to his advantage!
His tail lashed out and slammed into her midriff. She was not unaware of his skill as she used the pressure from one of her blades to move her back before it could hit. It mitigated the damage he could have dealt her.
Fey then conjured Death and Life Dao on each blade. The composite force actually made a cold sweat break out on Lind's back. He had similar Daos but it was clear Fey was far above him in comprehension of them!
They were terrifying and he had to dodge them or he would die but he was being forced to confront them directly!
His mind raced as all the Daos he had experienced finally coalesced into an idea. It was not his harmony that held the answer but fighting fire with fire!
His right and left arms lit up with the Daos of Life and Death. The 2 spirits he had nurtured allowed him to use those Daos far more than others but they were restricted to his arms.
He used the opposing Dao for each blade as the pair began to move so fast none could keep up with them but Lind had taught Fey most of her basic foundation.
Thus, despite her walking her own path for thousands of years, he adapted to her techniques quickly.
Despite seeming at a stalemate, her power was increasing!
Lind realized his restraints were removed but Fey had to prove she could ascend! She was actually delving deeper into her Daos as the fight progressed.
After 3 rounds, Lind began to bleed. He was stunned at her prowess to be sure but her ability to use her Daos far exceeded his own!
How was that possible?!
In scale, he was much further along than she was, so how had she surpassed him?
[It is the tribulation, Master. The battle with the Fiend honed her control and now you are pushing her beyond. You are still stuck at your level but she is moving beyond!] Haro's words enlightened him but there was little either could do about it.
The suppression on his elemental nodes was lifted but he dared not go all out. Even he could feel the fragility of the world around them as the battle ensued!
It was around the 7th round that Lind lost his arm. The swords were not the cause but a pure display of the Dao of Nihility. Fey was using them all from the 3 Divine Inheritances now!
His arm regrew at a startling pace as the Dao of Regrowth also flowed in him. Lind was slowing down, however, as he was being run into the ground.
Any doubt she would ascend was almost sealed away but his death increased in likelihood. Lind was being forced to get inventive and noticed his own foundation was rising more than any of the life and death battles he had faced in the last century!
He had been able to make real progress in the high Sovereign Tier but the few bouts with Fey had tripled all of that century right then!
The cavern was suddenly ripped open as the power they possessed took them to the Sovereign Lands!
He had no time to locate their position but he did feel many auras lock on and then flee as the black clouds roared into place in the skies.
Any Immortal knew what they meant! Lind then frowned as he felt much weaker beings trying to get away but they were too slow! They dared not try to fly as the tribulation might include them too!
Lind could no longer hold back! He had to end it!
There were still 2 rounds left but power condensed around him. Compared to the first time, it was far easier as the Staff of Defiance appeared. Fey actually paused for the first time. The feverish desire to fight actually receded as she seemed to regain clarity.
[There is no more time. You will live or die and the same goes for me. Go all out!] He felt the world screaming in his soul but the staff called all the elements and for a brief moment, the 4th layer shifted around them.
A starry sky suddenly filled their vision and the restraints vanished on them both! His staff whirled and all 18 elements danced to his command as if he was a God.
Fey now engaged all her Daos as well. Her right side was a morass of darkness while her left side was the purity of life. She became a living scale of the 2 extremes of all existence.
It was not a Dao Weapon but Lind felt his soul scream in terror at her power!
The rumble of thunder was finally heard but it far exceeded any pressure he had ever felt before!
It was the pure power of Dao in lightning form! The Death, Nihility, and Oblivion were either dark or even a kind of negative coloring while their counterparts were green gold mixture.
Fey was changing in the heart of that storm as she flew at him and their weapons clashed. Unlike he expected, her blades deflected the staff with ease!
Lightning danced along her blades of the tribulation itself and Lind felt his organs shatter! He coughed up blood but that was not the most dangerous issue.
His crystal cracked! He was on the verge of True Death!
Something broke in him. A wall that he had not felt before gave way and his nodes elevated with his harmony to pure Dao level! Power flowed in his meridians unlike anything he had felt before!
More blood flowed from his orifices as he could not withstand it but he used it regardless! His staff changed from pure emerald to a melding of all 18 Dao elements! It became a true physical existence and the world warped around it!
Fey's swords shattered into powder as he launched her back but she still took one of his legs and nearly his head!
Nine bolts of lightning flashed blindingly at her but she absorbed them! Lind had not chance to study them but Haro screamed in his mind.
[MASTER! PROTECT YOURSELF!] He used the staff to brute force all 18 elements into a massive shield. It strained as the shockwave washed over him and he tumbled out of the sky.
He felt the restraint of the 4th layer crash over him but he had no strength left to hold on.
He was about to slam into the surface when a gentle force caught him. His mind was foggy and pain wracked his body but it slowly faded as he looked up at a being he barely recognized.
[Father. You are too reckless.] The admonition made him smile a bloody smile at her. The black clouds were building in power but she repaired his body with ease.
All the wounds were gone and he felt better than ever before but also horrified.
His nodes were totally sealed! He had no way to tap into his elements anymore!
[You are at the peak of the Immortal Realm at last, Father, but now you need to risk your existence to advance. I do not know how but I know that to be true.] Lind sighed but knew his original goal was still the best.
Fey shimmered as energies from the tribulation flowed into her. She distorted until she was snapped into the sky and the tribulation dispersed.
Lind was still exhausted but he wasted no time escaping. He tore through space into the cavern and found the Fiend still knocked out. He had many questions and she would give him the answers before she died.
