Chapter 1532 - 1531 - Dangerous Silence
Chapter 1532 - 1531 - Dangerous Silence
A mere 100 years. It had only been a century since the Divine Land forces descended to hunt Lind Frey, and almost 90% of them were dead!
Deep underground in the Hollow Lands, an impossibly gorgeous woman was shaking as she read over the reports from her spies.
She had ash gray skin flare up to replace her cream colored look from before. She could not hold onto her disguise as the information came in.
She recognized many names or descriptions and they were highly entrusted forces in the Immortal Realm for various factions.
As a Fiend, she normally had no reason to care about the actions of other races, but even she who would massacre entire kingdoms for her own needs, could only feel the danger as she saw how easily they revealed their stupidity!
The disdain of the Divine Land inhabitants for ascenders clearly applied to the natives in the lower realms in general!
It seemed they universally chose the most suicidal path to draw out their prey or maybe they saw a chance to gather resources without worrying about the normal dangers of the Divine Lands.
Up there, an Immortal was an ant in front of a Divine Realm. If an Immortal crossed a line, or seemed to, they could face True Death at the snap of a finger!
Why would they unleash such destruction and incur the wrath of the locals who were at the same level as them?!
She knew the Divine Lands allowed the Immortals to harness Dao energy more effectively but it did not work that well in the Celestial Fields! She could feel the restrictions on the twisted Daos herself so she knew it had to apply to them as well.
After a mere 100 years, Lind Frey had wiped out all of them. None had escaped him! The Kang Mercenaries were on the cusp of becoming a Divine power and they were all dead!
The factions would normally have every right to seek vengeance but not all factions were against Lind Frey. She did not need to see it personally to know the actions of their envoys had caused a storm in the Divine Lands.
She almost suspected the Great One had planned it to send his enemies into warring on each other instead of them!
Yet, the actions simply reminded her why she disdained the masses of humanity and demons in general. They only cared about their own power and would willingly sacrifice others to achieve it in the shortest time possible.
If anything, it made her more terrified of Lind Frey. He was hunted by a massive number of experts at the peak of the Immortal Realm and he destroyed them all!
The few that remained were not hunting him actively but she recognized their movements. Her disturbing eyes narrowed at a few reports but she dismissed them as it seemed they cut their losses.
It was not worth hunting him any more but she disagreed. Lind Frey was likely to have become far more powerful thanks to the idiots giving him the perfect justification to kill them.
A knock at the door snapped her out of her thoughts before she returned to the dark haired beauty in a red and gold dress. A blushing young man poked his head in with a nervous smile.
"Lady Beth, I heard you got the latest reports but I wanted to add something. It seems like True Lord Frey has vanished entirely. He was last seen leaving the battlefield with his disciple after killing 3 peak Immortal Demons." She froze at his words briefly before smiling warmly at him.
She stood up smoothly and saw his eyes focus on her chest. The cold glare was missed entirely until it was far too late.
She snapped his neck at the same time she consumed his soul. He was only a Sun Tier but she could not chance any evidence being left behind.
Aside from looking for Lind Frey, she had been investigating the now fallen Goresh Kingdom. It took an annoying amount of time but she found confusing reports from her own Fiend allies and the open world.
The small medium power in the Hollow Lands was a mining and refining support for Goresh and had the most intact records. It also had the most robust information gathering that would not draw attention.
Spying networks were one thing, but many engaged in misinformation as much as information gathering. Further, they had the annoying habit of keeping tabs on their clients after the fact.
A production power, on the other hand, would happily gather information and not raise any eyebrows, especially if it was in the field of their interest. Lind Frey's actions were essentially public knowledge but for her, it was key intel for what to expect.
The fact he was not a peak Sovereign Tier but killed them with ease warned her she would only get 1 shot.
Now that he had disappeared again, the danger only increased. She had left no evidence in her wake but she assumed he was looking for anything. A broken neck would kill a Heaven Realm and a lack of a soul would not seem odd.
She made damn sure to not cause True Death or leave traces of her Qi behind. A much weaker target was easy for her as the Celestial Fields did not usually have such skills, but he might!
She frowned as she left the large compound as the sound of metal on metal could be heard with increasing frequency as the 'day' began. The Hollow Lands did have the day and night cycle but only places like the current one used artificial means to maintain it for races that were born to walk under the sun.
Lind Frey aside, she only had a theory on what happened with Lynella. The King of Goresh was a long time agent but he was not a thrall or other puppet. He did not want to live forever but he did want a companion.
Sex was a simple tool with their looks but the Fiend Qi aura usually left humans and other races unable to become aroused as the fear of being prey would override their natural instincts.
While she could not find Lynella's final moments, she did know the King had been harvested. He had been found out and was dead before enemy forces could kill him.
It was not just a rumor, but officially announced to affirm the danger of working with Fiends. She knew it was not a lie as it was the actual procedure but then why was Lynella still there?
A Fiend would not wait to die, yet she had. The Fiend archives affirmed she had plenty of time when sent to kill the King. So what happened?
She did not understand it and it bothered her.
Somehow, a Fiend had been freed from the Great One but she could not find the truth about it at all!
She was nearly out of the compound when all the clanging went silent at once. She expected an alarm to be set off but instead, only silence greeted her.
She instantly tore through space and changed to her natural appearance. She strained her aura carefully before quickly moving on. She did not stay still and actively set up false trails until she found a natural cavern heading down.
She dispersed her aura instantly and turned to stone!
It was an Art many Fiends tried to master but only in the Divine Lands did they have any real success.
Just as with her counterparts, she could maximize her use of Dao to impose a new reality on the 4th layer but it had to be done delicately!
She waited in the silence and did not even breathe or blink as she waited. The endless darkness was around her when she felt something. It was not anything physical but she was no longer alone in the cavern!
A chill went down her spine. Even in her passive state, she should sense something but it was only instinct that told her someone was there.
The sound of metal on stone confirmed it but she held still as it got closer.
Finally, a piece of the darkness moved in a humanoid shape but that was all she felt. It moved past her hiding spot but she refused to move for days.
The silence stretched before a light nearly blinded her! A woman was revealed holding up a light crystal lamp frowning. Her eyes were black and dark green as the power of Dao filled the cavern!
[I know you are here. I know you are not from the Celestial Fields as you would know killing a Fiend agent can cause a cascade death event.] The Fiend cursed herself!
Of course! The new technique to seed a Fiend soul in others so they would die with all the others connected to them!
The Goresh Kingdom was exposed as a Fiend power so of course there must have been several of the implanted carriers in the support powers after all that time!
[I have all the time in the world to wait you out. I will kill you.] She felt the truth in the woman's words. The female Fiend also agreed that the danger she felt confirmed her power.
Yet, she smiled in her disguise.
The truth was the human woman did not have all the time in the world. She was not just at the peak of the Immortal Realm, but was a breath away from making the next step. If she did not prepare, her ascension would destroy many innocents.
It became a waiting game but when darkness returned, so did the silence. Such a dangerous foe terrified her! If such a being ascended, the Fiends would face dire straits!
Yet, she could do nothing to stop it! Instead, she prepared for the worst. She prepared for the woman to ascend right there in the cavern!
