Chapter 1488 - 1487 - Contingency
Chapter 1488 - 1487 - Contingency
Lind Frey vs the Immortal Berserker had left the entire arena shocked. Regardless of anything else, the Sovereign Tiers truly grasped the power of Dao and many had fantastic leaps of progress due to watching them battle.
At least a handful were not confident to take the final step at their own choosing in the future! Such a thing was unheard of as one of their number was already facing his Ascension outside the Throne's borders!
The collapsed body of Lind Frey was quickly whisked away but in one VIP suite, grim faces were weighing heavily on a pair.
Van was no longer being reserved but moving swiftly from the suit with Kaltara in tow. Her normally jovial nature was now gone. The aura of both True Lords made any cultivator part for them without issue.
Not even a grimace was to be seen in the crowd!
They eventually came to the healing ward only to find the heaviest restrictions in place. At least a dozen Harmonic Dragons were on guard but none of them were more than a Sliver or Shard Tier!
[Move!] Authority accompanied Van's transmission and the dragons shivered but did not budge. His dark golden eyes narrowed as he prepared to pierce the fools when a hand tugged on his sleeve.
"They are his. Our Authority will be below his since their loyalty is clear." He almost sneered but then remembered where he was. The Throne of Defiance was home to the dragons.
New race or not, he was not the highest being at the moment regardless of being a True Lord.
Kaltara smiled before producing a medallion. It was instantly recognizable as an emerald token like the contestants but there was a drastic difference. The dragon on her token moved!
[This person has my permission to issue commands based on dire situations. While you may not like what she will say, I trust her.] Lind's voice made all the dragons kneel. After the display in the arena, the pair could hardly blame them.
They were allowed in to find healers shouting.
"I don't care what that blasted contraption says or what you think should be done. At this moment, Mira Frey is God and you will listen to her!" Kaltara smirked as a group of Radiant Tier Immortals were being cowed by a young dragon.
It helped that Sovereign Tiers were looming behind her but the pair brushed past them as they came to a room with a massive apparatus.
A shining crystal casket was linked into a wall of displays and tubing. It was actually rather impressive but the pair were grim once more as they beheld Lind Frey.
His foundation was shaky to say the least. If not for being a True Lord, he would likely be suffering fatal Qi deviation. His being a dragon would not have mattered then.
The woman attending him shared some looks with him despite being only human, yet her skill as she administered both pills and elixirs of the highest quality were unmatched. She instructed the various healers to keep the monitors and artifacts working in concert with her efforts.
For anyone else, the pair would have trusted her without question.
"Madam Frey, I beg your pardo–" Van bowed low as he swept his robe sleeves behind him. He was showing respect but an aura of rage slammed into them.
[GET OUT!] The cold steel in those words was pure mistress of her profession. She knew they were not healers.
'We can help him!" Kaltara shouted out loud and to the credit of Mira's control, the room did not stop. She only glanced hard at the pair before nodding over.
Van looked put out but Kaltara was preening. Despite being half his height, she felt like she was looming over him now.
"Speak quickly and simply. If you say foolish things, expect harsh results." She never stopped working. Despite only being a Radiant Tier, the pair could accept she was a supreme healer.
"Dao is not something an Immortal can wield freely. While he has some leeway due to his constitution, that was far beyond what anyone should do. The fact he is alive at all is a testament to his progress and skill." Kaltara was no longer carefree but deadly serious.
"He warned us he may push himself too far given who he was up against. We highly suggested he withdraw but the consequence of that was worse in his opinion, so we came up with a contingency." Mira stared daggers at Van.
Her look was clear.
{Get to the point, now!}
"Sigh, watch." Kaltara suddenly changed. Van was right there with her. Where before a stout woman and slender man stood, the world seemed to bend as mighty beasts faintly shimmered in their place.
The pressure suddenly changed and the pair became more real than before! Lind's body began to glow with emerald light.
The trio resonated and his color began to return. His ravaged meridians, dantian, and soul were carefully protected while they healed. The critical readings began to drop to far more acceptable levels.
Mira swiftly inserted a vial of an elixir that made both True Lords nearly lose their concentration!
Pseudo Dao Elixir?! How?!
Regardless, it joined with their power and Lind Frey was finally out of danger. His normal regeneration would take care of his body and mind, but his soul was in worse shape than before.
The pair of True Lords were also pale but steady. Mira quickly examined them before they could even utter a word. She frowned and then they felt her use a small cylindrical artifact while holding a tablet.
"Drink these." She produced peak Law Grade elixirs. One was shimmering with gold and green Qi while the other was azure and tan. Both True Lords went wide eyed as they found they were tailored to each of them!
"How–?" Kaltara could not hide her shock as she felt a million times better after one dose!
"All of it, now." The terse command made the stout woman smirk as she finished the elixir. Van quietly downed his and his color returned in full.
"He should recover in time but obviously, he cannot continue." Mira looked at him harshly but before she could say a word, a man with a bald head, dark skin, and tan robes appeared.
"I do not have much time. Lady Mira, I need options 117, 48, and 9." As if that made perfect sense, she produced a basket that seemed to be empty. The pair of True Lords went bug eyed when her arm vanished inside it and rummaged around!
She pulled out a bundle of elixirs, pills, and what seemed to be some formation or weaving plates.
She handed them to the man before he vanished once more.
"Haro is tending to the Ascension area weavings and formations. It must be having an issue or the supporters need more to protect them." Mira spoke aloud as she resumed examining her son.
The pair of True Lords had so many questions. How could a tool spirit be running a formation not related to their body for starters?! How many backup plans did Lind Frey have too?!
"Was there something else you had to do?" Her question was not dismissive but she was having to walk around them as she examined Lind.
"Uh, no. We–we will go now." Kaltara was feeling a bit awkward and Van chose the better part of valor. He retreated quietly.
Once they were outside, the dragons looked up. Van sighed but Kaltara gave a thumbs up. They all relaxed and bowed low to them.
"At least someone shows gratitude." Van grumbled but they left the area. They did note some interested parties but they would get nowhere near the healing ward. Oaths aside. The dragon clans were everywhere at the moment.
Their True Lord was inside and damn anyone trying to get at him.
[You understand what that boy has done?] Van's head was suddenly full of a serious Kaltara. He did not stop walking nor did his face reveal they had moved on to the next topic.
[Of course I do! He had touched on the Divine! Dao Weapons are rare, and 2 of the damn things happened here! They will send someone but what can they do? Punish him for skipping ahead?] Van truly did not know what the response would be but the Divine Realm was not cut off from them.
While an Immortal touching on Dao would not warrant even an eyeblink, not even controlling it as the Immortal Berserker had too, making a manifested form of Dao was an entirely different matter.
Divine Realm cultivators strived to make such progress on grasping their Dao and an Immortal having such power, regardless of how limited, was too dangerous to ignore.
[He has to have a Watcher or 2. There is no way such a talent was let loose into the Celestial Fields like that by accident. It would explain his strange mental outlook as well. It is not the first time we have met such a being.] Her words made Van frown.
[None of them were ever True Lords. It is possible he is a counter to the devastation of the bastard that tried to kill us all. The race memory has no way to confirm it, certainly not after he constructed a new body like the boy has.] Kaltara accepted it for now.
The pair went back to their suite as they wondered how the tournament would progress with 2 of the finalists out of contention.
