Chapter 1315 - 1314 - Rejected
Chapter 1315 - 1314 - Rejected
Lind contemplated what he had done during the trial. While it seemed straightforward to him, he realized to others it would be a higher order event.
It was only due to knowing how harmonies worked that he could create a similar effect, even if it was only a pale imitation. To those that had no reference, it would look like he had created something new.
He felt like he grasped something important in regards to what the Inheritances were looking for. If the Inheritance of Creation was looking for a Creator, then was the Inheritance of Death looking for a Destroyer?
Why? In theory they could be a balancing act but what was the point? It seemed too basic for a Divine Inheritance.
The sound of stone shattering brought his mind back to the present as the poor young man was in the fetal position. He seemed to be crying too!
"Senior, that is enough. He has learned his lesson." His words made the youth look at him in gratitude while the young female spirit huffed before nodding.
[Go to the core and contemplate our purpose.] The boy vanished and the woman seemed to take a moment to calm herself down. She also became very serious as she looked at him.
He took a seat across from her as fresh tea appeared.
[Please understand, the newer spirits do not have full access to the Inheritance scripture. Thus they are not as aware as I am. Those of us created to administer the trials and legacies have full knowledge.] He nodded as it made sense.
Abby had some awareness but she took nothing seriously and also did not seem to understand the readout he could see when using the cipher cylinder.
She had gotten better but only with his instruction and what they had learned from those that left the Inheritance on their own. Haro had also said a spirit had to get to the right maturity for things like an Inheritance before they could be fully entrusted with critical functions.
"That is fine. I am bonded to a similar spirit tool. What is a Creator exactly?" His theory was only in context of what he knew. He wanted to confirm it.
The spirit woman became still and contemplated what she wanted to say. She sighed before she shook her head.
[I already said more than I should. My creator would be very angry if she was still alive.] His head shot up at that piece of information. The creator of the Inheritance was dead?
"Are they all dead?" She nodded grimly. He had heard that the conditions for their emergence was related to that but it was the first direct confirmation he had heard. "How?"
She shook her head at him.
[That is beyond your ability to understand. It is also not entirely known to us but given that myself and my counterpart have emerged then all 3 must be dead. Whether they died at the same time or not, I do not know.] He slowly nodded as he understood.
If all 3 Inheritances had some kind of soul slate or other similar item, then it would only take the last one being snuffed out for the trigger to be pulled.
[To shift to a to your reward. Would you accept becoming the Inheritor?] Lind was about to ask about the other possibilities when the wording caught his ear. Not potential Inheritor, but Inheritor.
"A Creator is an Inheritor? I thought you could not tell me about that." She smiled and nodded at him.
[They are not the same but it is one of the prerequisites to become the Inheritor. Will you accept?] It confused Lind. Why was that only a prerequisite? What were the others? He also felt it was not so simple.
"Don't I have to go through another trial?" She nodded again but then frowned.
[If you accept, it will change drastically. Rather than testing the Laws and how you use them like before, you will directly be tested on the other aspects of the Inheritor. However, the most critical piece you already possess.] Clarity washed over him as he understood.
The ability to manipulate Laws and elements to create a new phenomenon was key to the Inheritor of Creation.
Mastering the 3 Laws to the limit was also likely part of it but being a Creator as she called it made it clear he could pass that as well.
Lind had no intention of becoming an Inheritor. Not many knew but several 6 elementals had tried to claim the ultimate prize in Immortal Inheritances long ago and it had not gone well. The issues they had overcome to advance their foundations unraveled in a moment.
They were unsure but he suspected the old theories were overwritten on the new ones. Thus the stability and progress were destroyed by the more powerful cultivator's intent.
"I cannot. Despite the temptation, 6 elementals cannot become Inheritors. There are things we can benefit from but it is limited." The spirit did not seem to fully understand but his rejection was clear.
She looked sad but did not push him on it.
[Very well. In that case you now have 3 options once again.] The world shifted and a massive hall appeared around them. Shelves lined the walls but he was shocked at the aura of everything in the room.
He followed her down the plush carpet until they came to 3 rows.
Unlike the rest of the weapons, armor, and artifacts, the shelf in front of them felt different. The aura of the rest seemed to belong there but the items on the current shelf felt alien.
Lind examined them and noticed each row had different aspects.
The lowest shelf was full of Law crystals. They were so rare in the Celestial Fields but the raw crystals were sitting neatly right in front of him. He was stunned because their quality was farther above the Rubyfire Empire harmonic crystal.
They were clearly more than the 3 Laws the Inheritance were encouraging the cultivators to comprehend. It was similar to the Dao room he had studied but unlike them he could see the appeal.
Law crystals could be used directly but a cultivator to improve their Laws without spending time comprehending them. It was a short cut to be sure but unlike pills and elixirs, it had no side effects.
The effects in the Rubyfire Empire were a clear example. Immortals could surpass others with ease and become more powerful than others in the same mastery of Laws.
The middle row confused him. It looked like raw ores but they did not match anything he had ever heard of or studied. The aura on them also far surpassed anything he had ever felt.
The top row made his eyes ache just to look at it. Spheres glowed on the top row but there were only 5 of them.
The ores and Law crystals were easily over 30 for each row!
[This is the closest reward choice for your original selection. You chose to improve your foundation and these items are all the same. The Law crystals are catalogued for quick reference but I suspect you have not encountered the other 2 rows?] He nodded and she let her hand pass through a barrier to pick up an ore that shimmered with streaks of crimson starlight.
[These are Ore Hearts. They are not native to the Celestial Fields but are still an Immortal resource. They can make a Law Grade spirit tool that can grow to a Divine Grade in the future.] Shock filled him.
Spirit tools were born from the maker's effort and intent. It took skill and extremely hard work to do it. Lind had to create Heaven Grade items to start on that path before he succeeded.
It seemed there were materials to actually make a spirit tool that could grow! His current creations had to be re-Forged to even attempt that!
His excitement grew but was then doused by his current circumstances. He was unable to Forge at that level at the moment!
Still, he could take one!
She set the ore back and only pointed at the final row.
[The top row is only for what you accomplished. They are also not native to the Celestial Fields but are extremely rare things in the Divine Realm lands.] The awe in her voice made him curious but then his Talents reacted.
Specifically, his Touch reacted. It was like it was drawn to the spheres.
The barrier stopped him until he could tear his eyes away. She did not seem surprised.
[The spheres are distillations of Talents. They are rarely found on the corpses of Divine Realm cultivators. Not all are compatible and if a person does not currently have the Talent, the sphere will not merge with them.] Lind became grim as he understood what he was looking at.
"These are the remains of a Divine Realm cultivator?" She nodded.
[When a Divine Realm cultivator dies, assuming they are not consumed by a beast or a plant, the remains include these spheres. Law crystals can remain as well but they are not as useful as raw crystals.] She grabbed a scroll and gave it to him.
Lind looked it over and was not surprised to see one of the spheres matched his Touch but he was shocked at one of them.
{Sphere of Divine Touch}
{Sphere of Innate Cultivation - Immortal}
{Sphere of Enrapture}
{Sphere of Piercing Sense}
{Sphere of Rebirth}
He could improve his Touch but he could do that on his own. The Enrapture and Piercing Sense were not part of his Talents. He was mystified on why the Innate Cultivation was capped at Immortal but the last one tempted him.
He was a reborn person and it was seemingly a Talent. It had never improved but he had recreated a new body so in a sense he had been reborn twice.
There were some descriptors for the other 4 but the last one only had one word.
{Restricted}
He looked up at the spirit but she could only shrug at him.
[That last sphere is beyond the Immortal Realm. Thus, you cannot learn about it.] He opened his mouth to reveal he had the Talent but then froze. Would it be wise? The spirit was already wanting him to become the Inheritor for his ability to recreate his harmony.
What would she do if she learned he had been reborn?
He rejected it and the other spheres. It was tempting to be sure but he did not want tempt fate.
He looked at the middle row and decided to focus there. She seemed surprised but he began to examine his options there.
He was about to pick out an ore that seemed to have multiple elements and Laws imbued into it when the shelf shook.
Both looked up and one of the spheres was shining brighter as it broke the barrier down!
He had no time to react before it fused with his body! What had just happened?!
