Chapter 1250 - 1249 - Strange Actions
Chapter 1250 - 1249 - Strange Actions
The spirits had seen many things since the dawn of time, but while the first actions of the physical world had been enticing, it had become repetitive. No matter how depraved or kind, it all was the same after seeing it billions upon billions of times again.
It was part of what allowed them to be unaffected by events in the cultivation world no matter how dire it became.
They simply were immune to it.
Yet, the newest living soul had done a few things that piqued their interest.
His arrival was unusual but not unheard of. Regaining his vitality, however, was very new. It made them curious and his harmony was also something they had never seen refined to the level he had achieved.
While others had followed, he was the pioneer.
Still, as time passed, he became much like the rest. He did interact pleasantly with them so it was not bad to have him as a guest. Many spirits even recalled how vile and pleasant beings made a big difference on their opinion of the cultivation world.
A pleasant individual was infinitely better as a representative than the vile ones for the physical world. It made them inclined to slightly tilt things in their favor but Heaven and Earth was unbending on that front.
Even if their counterparts had the thought to intervene, they could not.
Lind had learned that directly from them.
They watched as he did something that shocked them, however. He was floating next to the vortex an aether child was being born in and he was cultivating!
He was advancing!
Souls retained their cultivation level from their body but advancing was supposed to be impossible!
Yet, he was doing it! He had advanced his realm deeper into the mid-Radiant Tier before their senses! The vortex suddenly snapped shut as the aether child was sent out into the mortal realm it belonged to.
Lind opened his eyes and floated for a time but none knew what he was thinking. He would then repeat that feat with each beast or child vortex. His progress had not been noticed until one of them realized he was stronger!
They did not understand! How was he advancing his cultivation without a body?!
He had done it before but it was possible if he had been at the cusp before he lost his body. His recovery was strange enough they had glossed over it.
Yet now, they had no understanding!
If that was all, they might have been able to accept it, but then he did something that made all of the spirits stop zooming around their world. They focused on him as his weavings seemed to act on the material of the world.
More vortices suddenly spawned than ever before. He was able to incite the process at will! They worried he would overtax the limits of their world but then turned around and seemed to disperse his foundation just enough to mitigate his actions!
Why would any cultivator do that?!
He retained his level but his accumulation was used to fuel his actions. Just as suddenly as he seemed to affect their manifestation process he moved to the rebirthing of souls. That process was where the dead from the barren worlds of the universes beyond the cultivation world had their dead earn the right to be reborn as cultivators.
He did not induce that process as he could not. It needed a soul to trigger so he only seemed to observe but then he paused it!
The soul was safely cocooned before the vortex as he seemed to study it intently with his hovering weavings floating all around it. He did that for at least several thousand before he nodded with no explanation! Some of them wanted to ask!
They had no restriction there but how to even start?
The few that interacted with him regularly refused to satiate the others' curiosity!
The old woman, the oldest of them, refused to pry. The small orbs of light wanted to know! Why was this man so strange compared to the other cultivators?!
As suddenly as his strange actions began, they stopped. He assumed a lotus position on a slab of white stone and did not move at all. The others left him alone and he was clearly thinking about whatever the blazes he had learned from all his previous actions.
Eventually, they began to go back to their own pursuits or contemplations but then froze as the feeling of Heaven and Earth appeared! The core was not exposed so where was it coming from!
Black clouds actually formed over Lind and the spirits were forced to scatter as they felt something only what cultivators tried their best to describe before. The precursor to a tribulation!
Why?! Why was a tribulation forming? He was nowhere near the Sovereign Tier, so why was it forming?!
Blue-white lightning flashed as thunder shook the spirit world. Lightning suddenly slammed right next to Lind. He never even opened his eyes but something changed. For just the briefest of moments, something had been there but the lightning destroyed it!
The clouds rumbled as they left as quickly as they came.
What just happened?! They could not hold back as all the spirits now appeared around him, waiting. He had to move sometime!
His emerald eyes opened but were clearly not seeing the world around him.
"Failure, huh? I expected it but still it was pretty bad." He went to stand up before he seemed to notice them all around him. He looked sheepish as he scratched the back of his head. "Um, hello?"
A cacophony of their voices made even them unable to figure out what was being spoken. The spirits felt a pressure wash over them as the old woman appeared looking grim.
"Explain yourself. What did you do?" He looked ashamed to have worried them and bowed low.
"First, let me apologize. I was testing some things I learned from touching on the direct Laws and birth process. I also grasped something important during the rebirth process. So I wanted to know what would happen to a single cell organism." Confusion went through them all. How did that answer anything?!
"A single cell what?" He looked up confused before he realized they did not know.
"Ah, it is what makes up all life. The simplest form is a single cell that can sustain and replicate itself asexual—" He could instinctively tell they did not understand. The spirits felt anger before the old woman slowly nodded.
"The science of the barren worlds. I understand most of it but you are saying you advanced such a limited being to the World Realm Gold Tier?" Her words brought clarity as he nodded at her.
"It was shallow in foundation but more of I wanted to know if tribulations would come. It did but it was not what I wanted. It was a punishment, not a true tribulation." Understanding flooded the spirits.
If Lind wanted to rebuild his body, it had to be an Immortal body. Such a body would not be freely allowed to exist. It would have to withstand the same tribulations as before!
Still, none had ever occurred in the spirit world. Not a single tribulation had ever so much as graced their golden skies until today!
The old woman looked contemplative before nodding.
"You are trying to prepare for the trials ahead. Will you willingly face them?" Her words made many spirits become still. The atmosphere was picked up by Lind but he seemed only confused.
"Is that not the natural course of events? If I want to go home in a body, I have to pay the commensurate price." His sincerity was almost physical. The old woman broke out into a small smile before the other spirits floated up and down in joy.
He understood! He truly understood Heaven and Earth!
"You want to be born?" A tiny voice suddenly spoke up as a small girl hopped forward and Lind looked down at her with a smile.
"I am not sure that is the right term as I have already been born twice. This will be more like restoration maybe? I am unsure. I do know it will not be easy nor painless. I will possibly face true death this time." The spirits bounced in agreement.
There was something else though he did not know.
"You will lose your memory of this place. You will no longer know of us or what happened here if you go this route." The aether children and beasts gained sentience here but had no recollection when they were born on the other side. It was a price of the process to protect them.
Lind looked a little lost but then slowly nodded.
"I am sad at that as I would like to remember all of you I have met. You have taught me a lot." The little girl was now the one giving him comfort. The old woman smiled wider as she nodded at him.
"The lessons should remain but it will be instinctual. You will need to work to recall the why behind them once again." He seemed more relieved but then laughed.
"I am getting ahead of myself. I failed with a simple single cell lifeform. I am nowhere near ready to even try to attempt my own body. I have much to learn yet!" The little girl laughed and the old woman also giggled.
It was indeed a far cry from a simple organism to a full dragon body. The spirits were also excited! They were going to get to experience tribulations!
It was going to be amazing!
