Chapter 1236 - 1235 - Limits
Chapter 1236 - 1235 - Limits
Lind felt tired but a Breath of Life Pill was put into his hands quickly. It invigorated his Qi and body quickly. The rest of his party were quickly treated as well.
The demon regained his arm but many of the healers were talking with his Mother animatedly. They seemed excited and thrilled by whatever they were talking about which made him smile.
Lind cultivated as he was simply exhausted. Lina had been brought over by Tessa, so she was carted off to one of the halls likely full of wounded. She had been through a very dangerous experience and there were no better healers in the 3rd layer.
Even with doom hanging in the distance.
They could be seen. Dark clouds that he knew were much farther away yet were visible due to the density of their numbers.
"What was that?" Kexin had come up to him. Compared to the other 6 elementals, she was the closest to him. The first demonic 6 elemental. She blazed a path with his help but she also helped him grasp demonic elements even better than before.
"I was pursuing power and devoted time to my harmony as it is at the heart of power. It also was frustration as I have been stuck at the peak of the low Radiant Tier for some centuries now." He spoke the truth. "If I am not wrong, I have pushed it to somewhere between Immortal and Divine Realm. It is not a Dao but it is damned close."
It still had not been enough to break the bottleneck but he was starting to grasp why. His other shortcomings led to an imbalance and he needed to start to master his Laws in his crystal.
In short, he had been an impatient child.
"Can it make me stronger?" He looked up into her smoky black eyes and smiled. He nodded. She sat across from him as he summoned the shining emerald flame and let her observe it.
Words would not help but studying would. Her own black flames danced between her lavender hands. He was impressed with how far she had come. Still, he saw she was deep into the Living Law stage.
It would take time for her to advance.
"So, you truly are 6 elementals." The pair looked up to see a crimson and gold aether child woman. She had a bountiful figure but instead of lightning coming off her, it was the feeling of respite.
"Indeed. I see you have been pushing yourself. The nerve regeneration field is leaking." The bright smile flashed before the warm feeling faded. Lind did not know her name but her Dao title was a legend.
The Rejuvenation Immortal. She had the ability to restore nerve damage with ease or invigorate atrophied limbs back to full health.
She was one of the leaders of the Serenity Sect.
"Sorry for the scare." She waved off his words of apology.
"More numbers are welcome. Your Mother is interesting. Her skill is amazing for one so newly at the Radiant Tier. It is a pity that will be as far as she goes." Lind slowly nodded. His mother had used resources to push past her final limit.
She had no more potential and any special resources had long been exhausted in the 3rd layer. Further, only he would want to try and push her forward but he would respect her choice if she chose to settle as a Radiant Tier.
It was highly unlikely she could go beyond the mid Radiant Tier as well.
"How bad are things here?" She became grim as a refined crimson jade slip was handed to him. He sunk his senses into it and saw the true devastation.
Even with the endless battles, the Radiant Tiers had held on easily over a few billion in population. The long lives made for a lot of overlap, but now, it was decimated.
A few billion were now reduced to 300 million healthy and another 500 million incapacitated. The other realms were worse. They had been nearly wiped out!
Even an eternal optimist would see the end of the 3rd layer at that moment. Almost anyone would but Lind looked at Kexin and had an idea.
"Is the Seducer of the Stars Immortal here?" Rejuvenation Immortal nodded and used a communication jade to call her. Lind let Kexin focus as there would be time enough for battle later.
He looked at the dark clouds and knew time was running out for them all.
A gorgeous woman appeared from the sky as she floated down like a deity. Her hair was starlight itself but her face was angry as she looked at him.
"You have the audacity to summon me? You abandoned–" Her words froze as Lind dropped to his face in full supplication.
"Ozymandias was a fantastic friend and I am so glad he reunited with you. You healed his heart where we could not." The sky rumbled for a moment but the woman calmed down.
"That man, he always has to be right at the end. He was so sure you would apologize and espouse some naïve nonsense. I should never have promised him to help you when you did." She was still angry but a smile crossed her face.
He stayed prone until a force of air and earth lifted him up. He looked into her vibrant eyes that held galaxies. It was no wonder Oz fell for her so long ago.
"You will be training my children if we live through this. Swear it." He did so immediately and she smiled at last. "Excellent. My daughter is a genius but my son is too easily distracted. Whip him into shape, would you?"
"We are all going to die soon, yet you make jests like that?" Rejuvenation Immortal seemed displeased but it was Kexin that laughed making the 3 look at her.
"Now that his thick skull has been put on right, you will see. He was killing Immortals as a World Realm. You think an endless horde of monsters will stop him?" Lind rolled his eyes. While her words were not quite wrong, they were not even close to right.
He had survived an Immortal soul attacking him, not defeated it. That was karma.
Still, she was not wrong. He had been fighting the soulless like a brute. It was not his greatest strength. It was his mind. He quickly summoned a jade slip and imprinted it with lists.
"If we have any of this in quantities I can use, I will improve our odds. You are not wrong though, there are billions of them coming for us but we have one piece of good news. Have you not wondered why they did not sweep down without end?" The small group looked to him as he pointed at the sky.
"They have always been nothing but puppets. They have no minds of their own. So they need controllers. Now that Lina broke the transportation network, they have lost a lot of those controllers. I assure you, a lot of them are dead." The limb had torn that island apart. Nothing could survive being exposed to the void.
Understanding slowly spread on their faces as Kexin laughed even harder.
"So if we find the puppet masters, we can win?" Lind slowly shook his head.
"If only life was fair. I suspect our true enemy is their leader. A Sovereign Tier Fiend." Kexin simply nodded but the other 2 frowned deeply at him.
"I do not mean to deny such a thing but the rules of Heaven and Earth are harsh to them. They are forced to ascend no matter what and cannot return from the 4th layer." Seducer of Stars Immortal spoke authoritatively but he only smiled at her.
"Have you heard of the Void of Heaven?" Both women shook their heads but Kexin grimaced. It brought up bad memories.
"The Fiends have a technique, costly in the extreme, but once implemented, the normal rules of Heaven and Earth cannot touch them there. I have seen it with my own eyes." Both frowned deeply but it would explain some things.
"Such a thing is impossible. Heaven would send its Wrath!" The Rejuvenation Immortal denied it but Lind quickly engraved sigils. He could not replicate it perfectly with Celestial Qi but he could mimic it.
The group suddenly felt something vanish. It was like a noise or feeling that had always been there as a comfort but now it was gone!
The feeling did not last but Lind made the point as absolutely nothing happened.
"Originally, Fiends could not exist in the natural world. They had to hide but over time that would still lead to death. The Void of Heaven does not only hide them in its concentrated form but allows them to plant literal seeds of their Qi to weaken the rules. When it gets bad enough, they can emerge into the sun where few can stop them." He had learned all of that long ago.
Mortal realms were easy but Heaven Realm lands and the Celestial Fields took far longer. He did notice that the Celestial Qi seemed to be tilting the scales against them once more but it was taking an incredibly long time to do so!
"They can't break the rules of Sovereign Tiers but they can hide their breakthrough as I have come to learn. The wraiths are a good example of what should be here yet they were." He suspected the void islands were the true secret behind their presence but there was no way to prove it anymore.
"So even if we beat the current horde, they will just make more and are protected by a being none of us can face?" Seducer of Stars Immortal summed up the current events but Kexin laughed once more.
She pointed at him and simply smiled.
"Fiends can't stand up to him. They are just children." He knew she was not entirely wrong but he had to correct one thing.
"Everything has a limit, Kexin. Numbers are limits. Potential has limits. And cultivation realms have limits. The Immortal Artificer was only a Shard Tier from what I understand. A Sovereign Tier is nothing like the rest of the Immortal Realm. They can snuff me out with a thought before I do a thing." Swift nods came from the other 2 Immortals but Lind smirked at that.
"The Void of Heaven, on the other hand, is mine to destroy!" It was a simple plan but none of it mattered if they did not survive.. Further, even if he wanted to head out immediately afterward, he could not.
The Fiends would expect it for sure and he had zero information of what awaited him. He had injured them enough and if they could repel the hordes now, then they had to recover as soon as possible.
"So, why did you summon me then?" He looked deeply at her before tapping his head. She understood and they conversed mentally.
A shocked look passed over her face before she slowly nodded.
"Go." She bowed low and flew off. No one asked questions as they understood. A Sovereign Tier could be watching them and close range telepathy was the only way to avoid eavesdropping.
The trio discussed some allocation of resources and his list was sent out. Time was fading but he hoped they would be able to pull through the battle to come.
