Chapter 1138 - 1137 - Respite
Chapter 1138 - 1137 - Respite
Lind was bored.
Chu and Jur had been merciless to him. Despite trying to reason he had rested for over a year, they were not hearing it! Cultivation was not something that could simply be resolved in a year at the Immortal Realm.
He agreed but they would not give him even a centimeter to try and explain as they both thrashed him without mercy!
While he had found he did need downtime, he had thought a year was enough but both vehemently disagreed. In that time they had asked about his life in the lower realms since the story he told the King had been eye opening.
They wanted to know it all and thus he told stories about his wives, mother, siblings, and so forth. He tried, he really did, to downplay his dangerous adventures but Chu was having none of it.
He had used a clear example for the 5th Prince so he could not exactly start avoiding them. While some were centuries apart in his mind they pointed out that once he truly got on the radar of the Fiends, he never really had peace.
He had waged several wars all on his own too. Despite claiming he delegated, both women had stared hard at him and asked who conceived of all the ideas and laid the groundwork for that delegation.
Yeah, he lost totally. They then laid the final blow that he had not really spent time on himself even in the past year. He had scaled back with teaching but they decided he needed a complete break.
The result was he was allowed to send some final messages before involuntary seclusion began.
At first, he really did feel some stress fall away but after a single month, boredom set in. Cultivation was never exactly exciting in the act itself but when in enlightenment or close to breakthroughs, time could flow like lightning.
As he was focusing on more mundane issues as his own care, it was simply meditation and relaxation. He found he was not very good at it.
Now that he actually took time to think, he realized that while he never stinted on time with his family while he could, he was truly very busy.
Forging a path for 6 elementals had been about survival but once the pieces really started to come together, he never stopped blazing the trail. It was understandable up until the Heaven Realm.
The desperation was no longer needed as all 6 elements actually gave them an advantage. They skipped an entire Tier!
However, Lind had never stopped racing ahead. He had left the other 6 elementals far behind but because of that, they were able to follow after far more easily. Their numbers were increasing exponentially.
He felt confident that the peak of the Immortal Realm was open to that segment of cultivators one way or the other. They didn't need him anymore.
The sect came later but that had been another time of enforced rest due to nearly dying. He could not stress his dantian or he would never advance anymore.
Even then, the paperwork, meetings, and more mortal tasks had filled his days with hectic chaos. He learned from a lot of people back then about managing others. It was a group effort but he appreciated it immensely.
After a near century of experience, he traveled into dangerous places like the Rakathi Wastes for a future for 6 elementals beyond the World Realm.
He had once more danced the edge of life and death but also touched on the darkness rampant in the higher realms.
The Floating Isles became the precursor to the larger war with the Fiends. Battles, secrets, and constantly feeling like he could never stop progressing were always with him.
His boredom began to fade as he came to the start of the sprint he had faced. The Heaven Realm was where he stood alone in a place run by Fiends and their allies. He had clung by his fingernails at times but waged a successful campaign to free the small Law Binding lands.
He had thought of how large it was but in the end, he became an emperor. He ruled and found all new battles of compromise and negotiation. He learned how annoying it was to balance what had to be done with what people in power would resist without a selfish reason to proceed.
He grew sick of it in the end but only became a more powerful emperor when he emerged in the midst of the terrible war. He lost a woman he cared about a lot to that monster but the war had already been started.
"Chu was right, I have never stopped ever since the Kingdom of Altair. I just kept finding things to keep me busy." The war had been primal to all at the time so it was hard to argue he could just ignore it but he piled on top of it.
He added his studies, his children and their needs as well as his demands as the Emperor.
He was a real busybody!
His ambition to restore the connection to the Celestial Fields could be considered a necessity, especially after what was revealed later, yet once that was resolved, he just piled on once more!
He created his Clan and revived the Celestials by protecting the re-emerging race. He had also faced the Immortal Fiends that survived the war. They were isolated at first but eventually broke free of the isolated places they tried to keep them to.
The time he devoted to advancing his cultivation was divided to exploring the world yet even in that he was pushing himself at every encounter. The sleepers, Feng, and the rest always demanded action from him he never even thought to not give.
His boredom was now gone as a serious look came over his face. He felt like when he was truly understanding what it meant to become Immortal. The actual understanding of thinking in terms of millennia and not just decades took a dramatic change.
Now, he realized he had gone too far. He had taken it to an extreme to fill his time without considering that despite becoming more powerful, he neglected the need for true rest.
The resilience of cultivators showed there as a mortal would have long collapsed from the stress.
He also suspected he had been well on his way!
Lind sighed as he really began to examine not only his memories and body but all aspects of his existence. His dantian was solid and firm but his meridians were showing signs of strain as well as his normal body.
His blood pressure, that should be steady or calm, was actually elevated in boredom! It was not a good sign!
In a lotus position on the pale gold mat, he cultivated calmly and let his mind fall away from his past and future.
He truly took in his present. The 3 burning incense sticks were arranged on the pale wooden table next to him as the feel of air flowed from the vents above. He could hear the flicker of the leaves in the open courtyard beyond the walls but even that just became a part of him.
As if waiting for his mind to become still, his harmony began to flicker in a more lively fashion than he was used to.
"So, you finally calmed down." His eyes shot open to find a woman sitting on a chair he did not recognize. It was a simple affair but compared to the rest of the room it seemed far more solid. It was as if the dark wooden chair with no cushion or artistic design was more real than the world around it.
The woman on it, however, seemed to barely exist at all. He tried to stand up but found his body would not move! His eyes moved and his heart beat but the muscles did nothing to his command.
She had light brown hair down to her mid back but the issue was her clothes. They were a pair of blue jeans with a very modern white blouse. Her shoes were also fancy black heels! It was clothes from Earth!
Her amber eyes were looking at him calmly but he felt like he was seen through in that sight! Was she a spirit? What was going on?!
"Time is a strange thing but that is why you can't move. You only then calmed enough to draw my attention. Do you like your new life here?" Thoughts whirled at that question. He had wondered why he was able to be reborn with his memories intact but he had learned not to accept things openly.
He found he could not speak normally so he did the next best thing.
[Divine Realm?] She smiled but shook her head.
"You could say I am breaking some rules but also not. Time has been stopped for the entire Celestial Fields but not us. We could spend eternity here and you would never die yet never be heard from again. Interesting, yes?" He ignored her taunts and amusement. He had noticed his harmony was acting up but it was like it was happy.
He allowed his harmony to do what it wanted and suddenly the restraints on his body fell away! Shock crossed her face before a smile spread ear to ear.
"You really are terrifying, you know? We don't take interest in Immortals normally but you have made that monster annoyed so we were curious. Still, we are not supposed to interfere yet we were growing concerned about how you were on course to burn out." Lind slowly tested his limbs but it was weird.
He felt like his body was encased in Laws but they were deeper and more profound than anything he had ever touched on. It was getting easier as the emerald Qi saturated his body and suddenly a final piece fell into place.
"Dao, it is not Law but Dao." An annoyed look crossed the woman's face but then true shock as she felt his eyes change. She had the feeling something ancient was looking out of his face that was far beyond the tiny Immortal in front of her.
[You are not supposed to be here. Leave.] A voice boomed in her head but she looked up in annoyance.
"Sigh, it seems I have been found out. I just wanted to tell you that if you really want to kill that thing, you need to take care of yourself. I know you have been warned but the spirits can be frustratingly vague when they should be specific. Your foundation is cracked. Fix it." A rumble suddenly shook the room and she sneered before a flash blinded Lind.
The spell of the moment broke and he questioned his sanity as he was back in a lotus position as if nothing had happened but the emerald Qi saturating his body spoke otherwise.
What was she? What was that about his foundation? He felt no damage no matter how he looked yet she was saying there was .
How could he find damage he could not even sense?!
