Chapter 1080 - 1079 - True Maiden Nissa
Chapter 1080 - 1079 - True Maiden Nissa
Lind's demonstration cowed the dragons to the extent they actually became helpful in rebuilding the city. With their stamina and strength, many things became far faster to accomplish.
Lind had impressive abilities but he needed materials to work with to do anything and moving them took time. Even with the ability to tear through space did not help him move things around as he liked.
The dragons could easily transport materials Duke Petryn desperately needed in quantities few could match.
It was only a few weeks of that when the infrastructure of the city finally became restored. In other words, the war towers were no longer needed.
Katara was sleeping peacefully on a bed in Lind's office with Ranger napping in a corner. The couple were enjoying what time they had left as Lind had confirmed her life would end shortly after birth.
Her presumed decade or more of life was burned up in a single year thanks to pregnancy.
She did not regret it. In fact, she was glowing when she spoke of her child. Ranger did not address the darkness but embraced the light as well. He felt glad for them at least.
It was dangerous to wait for a call to help her so they had basically moved into his office and his quarters were just next door. It was soon to happen and it was dangerous to move Katara any further.
He would not dare to even use the much more stable gateways.
He was working on paperwork to help manage the war towers when he paused. Ranger also snapped awake but he waved him off. A long expected issue had finally come calling.
He waved his hand as a dome appeared over Katara just to be safe. It glowed with sigils but a flare of strange elements made even Ranger look at him in confusion.
"Better safe than sorry as they say. Nothing short of a peak Crystal Tier can harm her now." He was not bragging. Celestial Qi may not work in most places but inside his office was the best purity he could make.
Natural and demonic Qi could not even put a dent in it! Fiend QI was so terrifying for similar reasons.
His harmony was quite a bit of an outlier but so were the other harmonys' effectiveness as well. It was a mystery he still had not resolved!
A knock came at his door but arrays lit up to let it slide open automatically. Only certain conditions allowed that, including authority on par with how own in the Heavenly Maiden Sect. A gorgeous woman stood beyond in a battle dress.
She had no apparent weapon but he noted bracelets on both her wrists that piqued his interest. Her short blonde hair framed a face made of jade. Her eyes were pale gray but fierce. She was also giving off slight bloodlust but clearly that was just a natural state.
Her figure was not hidden at all and he pitied any fool that thought such a thing was an invitation. Shoti had trusted too much in the distraction of her body but the Maidens firmly believed they should express themselves as they wished.
They had the strength to back it up and punished any fool that thought to test them every time. Lind, himself, had created better artifacts for the sect in his mortal realm to not only activate to defend but give the location of the sect member at that moment.
The result pleased Shoti no end as it made organizing attack squads much more effective.
It also made the Heavenly Maiden Sect more terrifying to their enemies.
"So, you are not a simple beast, it seems. You have had your way with our Sisters long enough. Relinquish your token to me and leave this tower." The woman spoke but she never introduced herself nor even greeted him. Lind felt a sigh building but he suppressed it.
His instincts told him she was baiting him but he simply pointed at the glowing dome over Katara.
"She cannot move and is under my care. I have no issue with breaking the arrays on my token but prefer to keep it for sentimental reasons. The woman who gave it to me fought to the end against our common foe and has my undying respect." He did not lie. Valkyrie and he had butted heads often to nearly the point of breaking ties, but at the end they had an amicable relationship.
They could never be called friends but they respected each other.
A sneer crossed the woman's face as she cocked her right arm back as it lit up with Qi. Earth and light elements? Interesting.
The fist slammed forward but whatever she expected did not happen. The Qi was perfectly dispersed and all her force negated. Her eyes went wide as saucers as she tried to leap through the door.
Due to attacking, the weaving activated and she found she could not advance!
"You dare to defy a True Maiden!" He saw her flash the badge on her chest. He had known already having met several before but True Maidens were strong!
He had not been certain but her aura was clear now as she unleashed one attack after another. She was a Crystal Tier!
Her foundation felt quite solid to him but he was observing her attacks. He was stunned that her feet lit up as well and revealed she was a kind of brawler he had never encountered before. He was reminded of Shoti's style a bit but Shoti and Cyntilla both would be hard pressed to overcome what he saw.
"Sister Nissa is always impatient. You should give her a bit to exhaust herself before letting her in." Katara had woken up but only looked amused at the flaring wards.
"She is accurately attacking the flow of Qi in the weaving. It is quite impressive, if useless. She is not using any piercing or disruptive Art. She seems to be enhancing her body for strength and speed. It is a wonderful technique. I am curious about it." A giggle left Katara as Ranger looked at him in awe.
The total lack of panic in Lind made it clear they were not in any danger.
"Will she damage the tower?" He felt he had to ask as the woman had moved to the side to hit the physical walls but that did not work either.
"She has the power but not the skill to do that. Katara at her peak could break the walls I think but of the Maidens here, none could put a scratch on them. Chu, it should be noted, could easily smash through my wards." Both looked at him in surprise.
The Priestess Chu would not need to but the fact she could do so easily at the Shard Tier surprised them both.
"Are–are you ignoring me?!" True Maiden Nissa was sweating but far from exhausted. Lind was impressed that she had done a complete test of the defenses but not pushed herself to do it.
"For the record, before you attacked, the barrier would have let you in. You are the one that triggered the defense response by attacking." He lectured calmly but it only seemed to irk her.
The Qi shifted on her limbs to darkness and earth but Lind was stunned to see it was not gravity she was invoking. She was projecting spatial blades!
It made no difference but he keenly observed her skills. It was an amazing application of elements for a person using their body as the weapon. It gave him a lot of ideas!
He began imprinting a jade slip right there which only seemed to anger the woman more. Her spatial blades moved to her will to go beyond her fists, extend from her arms or legs as she slammed them into the wards or stone around her.
When that failed, she used fire and light but lighting did not appear. She was instead using it to speed up her reactions and then brought water into it!
She was trying to short circuit the weaving!
Ingenious! Truly ingenious!
"HA HA! Sister Nissa, you are only filling his heart and mind by showing your skills. This man is a monster of knowledge and it is very unwise to show all your cards to him." Katara finally spoke up and it stopped the woman in her tracks.
Her eyes widened to see Lind was indeed making notes.
"Those were brilliant! Truly, you are amazing! Did you inherit a legacy or create them yourself? I would love to discuss them with you!" Lind was in full researcher mode. His wives would normally reign him in as he could lose himself to his desire to know more.
As if summoned, Chu appeared by tearing through space and with only a glance she brought a chop down on his head.
"Husband, I do not know the full story but I know enough to stop you scaring a guest. Calm yourself." It was ironic that Chu, of all people, was telling Lind to calm down. It was clear as day to anyone that Nissa had attacked but Chu was unconcerned.
Lind rubbed the top of his head but had the decency to blush as he let his spark of curiosity get the best of him. It had been a long time since he actually sat down to research and such an amazing set of skills had been like pouring gasoline on the flame.
Chu then turned to True Maiden Nissa.
"I did not realize you could not evaluate reality, Maiden. Your Sister is in a precarious state and unable to leave the room any longer. Are you really going to endanger her?" Chu's words made her blanche as she looked at the glowing dome around Katara.
"He protected her! There was no danger!" Lind suddenly strongly felt Shoti was in the woman in front of him! A giggle built up before he could stop it and it became full throated laughter.
All looked at him in confusion before he brought up his right hand and a jade stone appeared.
A woman was projected and she was clearly skilled with a whip but she was suddenly hit over the head by a demoness with 2 short swords on her hip.
[Are you stupid?! There are innocents over there!] The whip master rubbed her head but smiled in contrition while pointed off to the side.
[Do you not trust our beloved? He has them–] The demoness smacked her once more.
[He is not a God! Further, you are only saying that after–] Lind dismissed the projection. He had archived several like that from his early battles for study.
"Apologies, you just reminded me of my wife Shoti. Thank you for that. I miss her dearly." He looked up but was then confused as he saw both Nissa and Katara staring at him. Katara knew about his wives so why was she also surprised.
"How did you enslave a Maiden?!" Nissa screamed but Katara burst out laughing. Chu put a hand to her head as if she was done with the whole situation already. Ranger quietly tried to stay near Katara without drawing notice.
"I enslaved no one! She is my wife!" Lind felt his anger rise but Chu waved him back.
"I would like you to apologize for such a base description. My husband rescued my daughter and me from horrific humans that used us as ingredients. He broke the bloodline array that cursed us all. So if you could simply listen–" Chu was trying to persuade her but Nissa used all 6 elements all of a sudden.
Her fists almost look like a starry sky as they slammed into his weaving. Lind actually narrowed his eyes at that. The other techniques were smooth and polished but that was dangerous!
His aura flared and locked her in place. She tried to resist but nothing worked!
"I think we need to cool our heads and not endanger a delicate patient and her child. If I wanted, you could be sent flying from this tower at any time. I will ask that we meet down below where if you wish to fight me, we can do so safely." He released her but she seemed on the verge of trying again until she realized no Qi was working for her.
"I challenge you to a duel of life and death!" The words were spoken but Lind just felt tired. A stubborn woman until the end. He could only nod and she left. It seemed nothing was going to be easy even in relative peace.
