Chapter 1033 - 1032 - Older Twin
Chapter 1033 - 1032 - Older Twin
Lind blinked away the blindness from his teleport before he found himself in an office! It was the least expected place he could have ever imagined a trial taking place!
Dark wood lined the walls with thick beams as the supports at intervals. Shelves were stuffed with books, scrolls, jade slips, and even random sculptures. Everything in the room was worn or at least well used to his expert eyes.
He saw what looked a lot like lamps but from his old world rather than the cultivation world he now lived in! Incandescent bulbs burned softly in each wall lamp. He looked around and saw a large set of double doors closed but what he was looking for was not there.
Neither a light switch nor a jade stone to imprint Qi into.
In fact, he realized that aside from the jade slips, nothing in the office seemed to give off Qi at all! He highly doubted that was the case but he looked around until he noticed the cold hearth and desk near it. It was a massive oak desk from what he could tell.
The desk had 6 drawers and a simple wooden chair with no padding next to it. The drawers were sealed but no lock was apparent. He still felt no Qi at all no matter how he tried.
It was actually really weird when he thought about it. It felt like nothing existed!
"What is the trial? Am I supposed to be someone? If so, how do I pretend if I look like myself?!" On the desk was a bladed letter opener with a perfect surface to be a mirror that revealed he was normal.
Emerald hair cascaded down his back and his crimson robes were a bit frayed. His well tanned features were replaced by fresh skin ever since his harmonic cleansing but it was still clear he did not belong in that office.
The hearth was the only normal thing as he felt faint traces of fire Qi but it felt odd to him. It was like it was more than that.
He was unsure how much time passed before the click of the door told him things were finally going to commence!
He froze, however, as a broad shouldered man with a square jaw and silver hair walked. It was not silver with age, but the actual silver of vital life!
His features were somewhat similar so it was clear he was related to Younger Twin but if they were twins, why did that one seem years older? When was the office supposed to be?
The man ignored Lind entirely as if he was air and easily pulled open a drawer where a sheaf of papers were pulled out. He could see it was a report of some kind due to the numbers but he could not read it at all!
He quickly moved to pull a book but nothing would budge. Not a single thing!
Warmth suddenly flooded the room as he whirled to find a roaring hearth! He felt nothing once more. If not for the fact his aura could sense the life of the man in front of him, he was sure his cultivation was sealed!
What was going on?
"You can stop panicking. It is perfectly normal for an Immortal to be unable to affect this room. The fact you are here means my brother chose to interfere in the operations of his Inheritance for some reason. It also means something has gone wrong." The man finally looked at Lind and he felt like a bug.
There was no other way to describe it. All the power he had amassed and things he had survived meant nothing in front of the man. Lind could be killed with a breath!
He had only felt that way one other time in his life.
Emerald light flared around him instantly and his scales covered his body. Yet, unlike with the Great One, it did barely anything to the man in front of him.
Lind had been the enemy of Fiends for so long, he had forgotten what facing a true powerhouse was like. Still, he did not flinch away. His emerald eyes were full of power as he looked at the silver haired man.
A small smirk crossed his face before Lind was sent slamming into the wall.
"I am not like my little brother. He indulges his students too much but also is more amicable to the weak. You are not–" Celestial Qi shattered whatever was holding Lind.
In the 2nd layer, it was impossible to use on a consistent basis, but he had yet to encounter any trace of tainted Qi inside the Ruin.
Thus, he used it then. Golden light joined with emerald as the Celestial elements conformed to his will! He had never been in a situation where he could only use that Qi before.
He conjured lightning that felt like it was the end of all creation but the man just sat there stunned as it came right at him.
A wave of his hand scattered the Qi but he was now staring at Lind like he was the most important thing in the world.
His eyes also glowed violet before he shot to his feet and seemed to blur around his desk to stand before Lind.
"You have all 18 elements in your crystal?! There is also a 19th aspect I have never seen before! What are you?!" Lind was caught off guard by the intensity as the man went from dead serious and cold to an excited teenager!
"Demonic and natural Qi aside, no one outside of a True Cultivator could ever use their elements. They are damned secretive too about it and they–" Lind was now nearly in a ball on the floor as the overly excited man was looming over him with his arms raised.
He was too intense! Lind would rather face a thousand dragons again than what he currently did!
[CALM DOWN MAN!] Out of sheer desperation he infused his True Lord authority. He felt a massive drain on his body as the man calmed down and looked at him even more intently.
"About 500 thousand years was all it took to calm me down. No karma was incurred either so I was out of line. Strange. It seems I will owe my brother an apology. I hate that." His colder tone returned but not as thick as before.
"Is senior, Older Twin?" The man nodded before a pair of chairs suddenly appeared in the open area of the room. Lind narrowed his eyes before a terrifying thought came to him.
"Dao. You are using Dao?" Laughter suddenly came from Older Twin so much that he was crying!
"Oh, I forgot how simple Immortals are! Dao, he says. Like I just use Dao for the simplest things. Tell me, do you use Laws to get things out of your storage ring?" Lind looked at him oddly.
"Was I not supposed to?" Older Twin froze and looked at him before Lind indeed used Laws to pull out things from his ring. It was not simply that he chose to, but he had learned he had to.
The ring on his hand was far from normal and even needed his authority as a True Lord to sometimes work. Older Twin narrowed his eyes at the ring once he saw it.
"You are not wasting your time, it seems. You really are a True Lord, but more than that, I think you already qualified as a candidate for &*()$#@" Lind's head nearly split open for some reason but Older Twin did something that helped it pass.
"My apologies. You are not ready to know about that. The restrictions are something few can know at a glance. Still, you are unique. I would like to hear your story. It may help me assess if you are worthy." Lind doubted it would be that easy but saw no harm in it.
"I am from a mortal realm…" He cut out a lot of the personal parts but time was long a malleable thing for him. The older man summoned a tea set and it actually made him feel incredible. It was actually Serene Yang Tea which he had only heard of in books!
It was not supposed to exist in the Celestial Fields without costing an entire kingdom its vault of treasures! Only supreme powers could get their hands on it through channels to the Sovereign Tiers at the peak of Immortality.
Older Twin had many questions and some actually helped Lind grasp aspects of himself better. It was especially true when it came to Celestial Qi. His crystal advanced by leaps and bounds thanks to that until he reached the peak of the mid Crystal Tier!
The balance between his 18 elements fascinated Older Twin. Another thing he learned was the man was a Forger as renowned as his brother for elixirs. Their family was famous for derivative professions. They had an aunt who was sought out for her ability as a weaver.
Older Twin actually found Lind's ability to weave more profound than hers so he could not help there. His harmony, obviously, escaped Older Twin entirely. Still, it was an interesting conversation.
"Fascinating. Truly fascinating. I can see why my brother interfered if it has become a Ruin. Your badge is authentic. I do not recognize your Forging master but the badge speaks volumes to me. She is not bad." A swell of pride filled Lind's chest.
"That covers most of it. The current war is not just the normal greed but heavily manipulated by Fiend cults and agents that laid out some kind of bloodline array beforehand." Older Twin nodded in agreement.
"You have had an interesting life but I need to correct you on one thing. You are not the first 6 elemental to break through the trials of your kind. There have been a small handful before you." Lind shot up at that.
"Why was none of their legacies passed on?!" Older Twin was now the one to pull back at the intensity of Lind, but he could hardly call him out on it!
"Ahem, it was because they did not share the secrets they learned. I can also say definitively that they are nothing compared to you. You now only spread your discoveries but adapted when new information arrived. That is a hard thing for many cultivators to do." Lind slowly sat down but felt anger.
How much could fools not leave behind an Inheritance or other things for people to help them?
"Ah, you seem confused. Not all cultivators want to leave behind legacies. Many of us die without revealing our secrets like this. My brother and I are even odder for working together. Your family might out do us though!" Lind smiled at that.
"So, may I ask what I am to do here Senior Older Twin?" Lind bowed low and waited but silence descended before the man set down his cup of tea.
"Normally, you would have to prove a depth of not only your skills as an elixir master but also face me in several rounds of challenges to your cultivation knowledge." Lind found that a bit mundane but then recalled what he was talking to.
An Immortal stood no chance of passing a Divine Realm challenge!
What was his Master thinking?! A smirk appeared on Older Twin's face as he enjoyed Lind's clear discomfort.
"The situation has changed. You pass this portion as the intent is to save the Ruin, not conquer it. I am afraid the next part will not be so kind. My brother was right to bring you this way first. It is shorter and a greater chance to pass, but conversely harder as well. I wish you luck." Lind bowed as the door swung open.
He understood it was not going to be so easy yet he also recalled how close to death he came in that encounter.
"Oh yes!" He turned back to the man and a hexagon metal coin was tossed at him. "Keep that. You will need it later." Lind bowed once more and left through the door to his next trial.
