Chapter 95
Chapter 95
The upcoming car slammed on its brakes, its tires screeching against the pavement as it skidded to a halt just inches away from Camilla.
Edward found himself in a moment where everything around him seemed to freeze, his heart racing within his chest.
Meanwhile, with a jolt from the sudden stop of the car in front of her, Camilla regained some sobriety, and Alexander hurried to her side.
Visibly shaken, the driver of the car emerged from the vehicle, his face displaying deep concern.
"I'm so sorry... I didn't see her in time. Please, I'm truly sorry," he stammered, his gaze anxiously shifting between the three of them.
Breathing a sigh of relief, Alexander locked his eyes on the man and nodded, "It's okay... Thank goodness she's alright." His voice was filled with a mixture of gratitude and lingering fear.
Relieved, the driver acknowledged the nod, slowly retreating into his car and driving away at a noticeably slower pace, still visibly shaken by the near accident.
With the driver's departure, Alexander shifted his attention to Camilla, his face marked with concern.
Softly, he asked, "Are you okay?" His voice carried genuine worry.
Instead of a verbal reply, Camilla enveloped him in an embrace, her arms encircling his neck as she buried her head against his chest.
Caught between intoxication and lingering fear, her emotions intertwined, rendering her unable to express herself through words.
Understanding the depth of her vulnerability in that moment, Alexander handled Camilla with delicate care, lifting her off the ground and cradling her in a bridal style.
With determined steps, he made his way towards his parked car at the side of the road.
However, Edward, having overcome the initial shock of the near accident, called out to Alexander with a touch of harshness in his voice.
"Hey! Where do you think you're taking her?" he questioned, starting to walk after Alexander.
Ignoring the confrontation, Alexander proceeded to open the front passenger seat of his car, gently lowering Camilla inside before closing the door.
Upon turning back, he was met with Edward's angry stare. "I'm not letting her go with you," Edward declared firmly but Alexander responded with a brief smile, dismissing Edward's words.
"Yeah, like I'm going to leave her with you so you can continue where you left off," he retorted, his voice tinged with sarcasm.
He excused himself and walked over to the driver's seat, with Edward still trailing behind him.
"Oh yeah, and you're the one who won't take advantage of her in this state?" Edward yelled after Alexander, who continued to ignore him and entered his car.
Starting the engine, he simply drove off, leaving Edward standing there, seething with anger and his fists clenched at his sides, frustration coursing through him.
In the car, as they arrived at Alexander's rented villa, he stole a glance at Camilla, who had drifted into sleep during the hour-long drive.
A gentle smile played on his lips as he admired her serene figure.
Being in her presence once more after a year of separation felt almost surreal.
Fond memories of their honeymoon and the happiness they had shared together flooded his thoughts, warming his heart.
Shifting his focus to the villa's entrance gate, he located the button and pressed it, initiating the security system to verify his credentials.
Gradually, the gate began to swing open, granting him entry into the secluded sanctuary.
The car smoothly entered the villa's premises, following the meandering gravel path that led them deeper into the lush and green surroundings.
Tall palm trees stood proudly, swaying gracefully in the warm breeze, their elongated shadows playfully dancing upon the pristine grounds.
With utmost care, Alexander turned off the car's engine, ending the soothing hum that accompanied their journey.
He carefully unfastened his seatbelt and stepped out, making his way to the other side where Camilla sat.
As the door opened, it emitted a soft creak, and Alexander leaned in, gathering her fragile form into his arms, he cradled her gently against his chest, ensuring her utmost comfort.
In response to his touch, Camilla stirred slightly, her eyes briefly fluttering open before surrendering to sleep once more.
A faint smile graced her lips as she nestled in his embrace, finding solace and security.
Alexander's lips parted, releasing a sigh of relief that he hadn't disrupted her peaceful slumber.
With a determined stride, he walked on his path towards the entrance of the villa, every step intentional and resolute, as though he cradled a precious treasure in his arms.
Stepping into the villa, Alexander made his way through the generously proportioned rooms until he arrived at the master bedroom.
Still, with gentle care, he settled Camilla onto the plush, welcoming bed, ensuring her comfort and uninterrupted rest.
Drawing the covers up to her shoulders, he allowed his fingertips to linger tenderly against her cheek for a fleeting moment before reluctantly releasing his touch.
As he stood there, observing her peaceful slumber, a whirlwind of emotions surged within him.
The closeness to her filled him with an undeniable sense of joy, yet an underlying unease lingered, uncertain of her reaction upon waking.
Bending down, he slowly placed a gentle kiss on her forehead, his voice brimming with tender affection.
"Good night," he whispered, preparing to turn and leave, when her hand reached out and grasped his, her words incoherent yet desperate.
In an instant, he froze, swiftly turning back and lowering himself back to the bed, eager to hear her murmurs clearly. "Camilla?"
"... Don't go...Stay..." she mumbled, her speech clouded by the remnants of sleep.
Wide-eyed, he locked his gaze upon her for a brief pause, his heart skipping a beat at her plea.
The vulnerability conveyed in her voice tugged at the strings of his heart, compelling him to grant her request.
With a gentle smile gracing his lips, he settled himself on the edge of the bed, maintaining their intertwined hands.
"I'm here, I'm not going anywhere..." he whispered, his voice saturated with warmth and reassurance.
