Chapter 70
Chapter 70
Camilla's heart overflowed with gratitude as she and Alexander gracefully descended the magnificent staircase, their fingers delicately entwined.
With every step they took, the air filled with resounding applause and exuberant cheers from the guests eagerly gathered at the bottom of the stairs, their infectious enthusiasm filling the space.
As they reached the bottom, the applause grew louder, amplifying the joy that radiated from Camilla.
Her smile widened as she beheld a sea of beaming faces, a mix of friends, loved ones, and all who had gathered to celebrate her special day.
Brimming with pride, her parents stepped forward, enveloping her in their warm embraces.
First, Fernando, her father, hugged her but not too tightly.
"Happy birthday, my darling... you look absolutely stunning," he whispered with a touch of nostalgia in his voice.
"Thank you Papa..." Camilla said as she felt tears welling up, overwhelmed by his heartfelt words.
He nodded and then stepped back, making way for her mother to embrace her as well.
"Happy birthday my sweet baby," Alessia said before she pulled away, gazing at her lovingly.
And if that wasn't enough, both her parents stepped away, and Harriet, Alexander's grandmother, appeared before her, surprising her with open arms.
And Camilla's voice escaped in a soft exclamation of astonishment, "You came?!"
Her eyes widened as the older woman enveloped her in a warm embrace.
"Of course, I came... I wouldn't miss it for the world," Harriet replied, her arms encircling Camilla with tenderness.
After a moment, she released her hold, pulling back.
Tears welled up in Camilla's misty eyes once again, her voice choked with gratitude, "Thank you... thank you so much."
Interrupting the poignant moment, Isabel interjected, her voice commanding attention, "Alright, everyone, that's enough..."
Her words resonated through the room, bringing the guests to a hushed silence.
Alexander and Camilla stood side by side, curiosity etched on their faces, wondering what Isabel had in store.
"I was told there's a party... the grand celebration of my dearest sister-in-law's thirtieth birthday..." She trailed off, momentarily facing Camilla with a curious smile before turning her attention back to the guests.
"...and I must say, I'm rather eager to find out when exactly this so-called party is about to commence. Aren't you?" She questioned, her playful grin spread across her face, eliciting light chuckles from some of the guests.
"Well, I suppose I don't need to start to teach anyone how to have fun..." she declared, clapping her hands together with infectious enthusiasm.
"Come on now, let's get this party started!"
Her words ignited a wave of cheers and applause from the guests, the energy in the room surging with excitement.
Without hesitation, the DJ unleashed an upbeat and lively tune, instantly beckoning some guests to the dance floor, and swaying to the rhythm.
Isabel's eyes sparkled as she turned to Alexander and Camilla. "You two, why are you just standing there? Come on, go!"
Her gestures urged them toward the center, emphasizing their role as the evening's focal point.
Camilla couldn't contain her laughter, infectious energy coursing through her veins.
She stole a glance at Alexander, her heart brimming with love and gratitude for the incredible man standing by her side.
In that fleeting moment, their eyes locked in a sweet gaze. Alexander cleared his throat, taking a step back and extending his hand towards Camilla.
"May I have this dance... Milady?" he playfully asked, adopting a mockingly formal tone, a mischievous smirk adorning his face.
Camilla giggled, unable to resist his charm, and delicately placed her hand in his, her other hand resting on his shoulder.
"With pleasure," she responded, playfully mirroring his imitation voice.
"If you think you can keep up with my moves," she added, teasing him with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.
Alexander chuckled in response, and they made their way to the dance floor together.
With their gaze fixed solely on each other and smiles dancing on their lips, they swayed to the music, their fingers gently intertwined.
The infectious energy in the room spread as more guests joined in, swaying to the pulsing rhythm, filling the space with joyous celebration.
As the hours passed, the party showed no signs of slowing down especially with Isabel stepping into the role of the event's lively MC, delighting everyone with an array of games, ranging from couple-oriented to singles-only and beyond.
Camilla, weary from the festivities and mindful of her condition, took a moment to rest on a nearby couch.
Observing with amusement as some guests, including her parents, danced in circles around a set of chairs in a spirited game of Musical Chairs.
Alexander stood faithfully by her side, not only because he wanted to be near her but also to ensure her well-being and safety.
Though he had a face of happiness and excitement, deep inside, doubts lingered due to the looming presence of the menacing figure, Red Saint, who had quite the habit of disturbing the peace and happiness of their family.
But despite his concerns, Alexander had decided to proceed with the surprise birthday party, ensuring he remained by Camilla's side at all times to protect her from any potential harm or threat.
As his piercing blue eyes scanned the crowd, a constant vigilance for any signs of danger, a call came through his ear pods.
With a simple tap on the device, he answered and listened intently to the words of the security personnel.
A furrow formed on his forehead, hinting at the unsettling news he had just received.
"Alright, I'll be there in a minute," he responded, ending the call.
He turned his attention to Camilla, a sigh escaping his lips.
"Hey..." he called out, prompting her to tear her gaze away from the scene before her, her eyes locking with his.
"Yeah?" she replied, her gaze filled with curiosity and concern as she looked up at him.
"There have been some security issues... uninvited guests or something. I need to go and check it out."
"I'll be back before you even notice I'm gone," he explained, a touch of reassurance in his voice.
Camilla nodded, understanding the necessity.
"No problem," she responded, her voice steady as he leaned in, planting a quick kiss on her cheek.
"Don't go anywhere, I'll be back soon," he whispered before reluctantly leaving.
Camilla watched him vanish from sight, her nod a silent affirmation, before refocusing her attention on the group of people joyously dancing around the chairs in front of her.
A soft chuckle escaped Camilla's lips as the music abruptly halted, leaving her mother as the last person standing, with no chair in sight.
But to her surprise and everyone around, her mother walked over to where her father sat and gestured for him to stand up.
And the poor man had no choice but to comply, now leaving him as the sole individual without a chair.
The entire room erupted in laughter at the playful exchange between the husband and wife while Camilla shook her head in amusement at her mother's antics.
Just as the laughter subsided, a distinct throat-clearing sound captured Camilla's attention.
She turned to see a young man with tousled dark hair cascading in waves.
His deep-set hazel eyes held an intriguing warmth and charm, captivating Camilla's attention.
"Um... hi. I'm not entirely sure if you remember me, but we met at my aunt's husband's auction a few months back," he nervously began, his fingers fiddling with the hem of his tuxedo jacket.
Camilla's eyes narrowed as she looked up at him, racking her memory.
Suddenly, her eyes widened in recognition. "Charles... right?" she asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.
Charles's face lit up with a wide smile, nodding enthusiastically.
"Yes, that's me! It's so nice to meet you again," he replied, extending his hand adorned with a silver bracelet.
Smiling, Camilla took his hand, giving it a gentle shake.
"Likewise, I'm glad I remembered you this time," she said with a soft chuckle, causing Charles to blush ever so slightly.
"Yeah, I'm glad too," he replied, releasing her hand.
"By the way, happy birthday! I wish you all the best, and may the happiness and joy you've experienced today last forever," he expressed sincerely, his hazel eyes gleaming with warmth.
Camilla laughed appreciatively, grateful for his kind words. "Thank you, and thank you for joining us tonight."
"It's not a problem, in fact..." He paused, flagging down a passing waiter and swiftly acquiring two glasses of champagne.
Extending one to Camilla, he proposed, "Let's make a toast, to you..."
Camilla's head tilted slightly, a beautiful smile slowly gracing her face as she realized his apparent obliviousness to her condition.
"Um... I'm pregnant, I can't have alcohol," she gently informed him.
Charles's eyes widened as he realized his oversight.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. I completely forgot. Please forgive me," he quickly apologized, a mix of embarrassment and concern etched on his face as his gaze fell to her protruding belly.
Camilla's smile remained serene as she reassured him, "No need to apologize. It's completely fine. I appreciate the gesture," she assured him, her understanding nature evident.
However, Charles still seemed unsettled by his oversight.
"You know what, I'll just have it on your behalf... A toast to an exceptionally beautiful, talented, and independent woman," he declared, determined to make amends.
Before Camilla could intervene, he downed both glasses of champagne, shaking his head slightly at the sudden burn.
"Woah..." Camilla muttered, taken aback by his action, and he simply chuckled in response.
"Well, I should be on my way now... I just wanted to check in on the birthday celebrant before I take my leave," he explained, giving her another warm smile.
"Why so soon?" Camilla asked, a hint of disappointment in her voice. "I mean, didn't you just arrive?"
"Well, yeah, but I have some things I need to attend to. I'm sorry," he replied sheepishly, his gaze momentarily flickering away.
Camilla nodded understandingly.
"Okay, it was great seeing you again, by the way," she said.
"Same here. Enjoy yourself tonight, okay?" he offered, his smile still radiating friendliness.
"Alright, thanks. I will," Camilla replied a sense of gratitude in her voice.
Charles waved goodbye before gradually blending into the crowd, eventually disappearing from sight.
"Cami!!!" A voice, brimming with excitement, abruptly shattered her focus on the path Charles had vanished into.
As she redirected her gaze toward the source, her eyes widened in sheer astonishment.
"Taylor Jones?" she uttered, her voice filled with disbelief.
