Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 55

Chapter 55

Clarissa's hands clenched the steering wheel with a vice-like grip as she hurtled down the desolate highway.

Tears streamed down her cheeks, distorting her view as a tempest of emotions threatened to consume her.

A maelstrom of frustration, anger, betrayal, and anguish swirled together, creating an overpowering surge that swept her into a vortex of pain.

In this tumultuous instant, her thoughts whisked her back to her university days, specifically to a momentous occasion involving Reynold.

•~•~•~•~•~•

It had been their one year anniversary, and Clarissa had excitedly orchestrated a night of romance.

Reynold had gone to the library immersing himself in preparations for an imminent examination, surrounded by fellow students from his faculty.

In that opportune moment, Clarissa seized the chance and stealthily slipped into his dormitory, brimming with excitement at the prospect of surprising him.

Soft, flickering candlelight danced around the room, while meticulously scattered roses adorned every surface, with the bed taking center stage-an unspoken invitation for a night of passion and profound connection.

As Clarissa busied herself, carefully arranging dishes for their special dinner, a sudden sound at the door jolted her senses.

Keys turned in the lock, and her heart raced with anticipation.

Adjusting her alluring nightgown, she settled into one of the chairs, her eyes fixed on the entrance, ready to exclaim "surprise" with sheer jubilation.

Yet, her elation swiftly transformed into profound astonishment as the door swung open.

A woman with a distinctive British accent burst into the room, her voice ringing out in a jubilant chorus of "Surprise!"

Clarissa's initial astonishment mirrored the woman's own surprise upon discovering her presence instead of Reynold's.

The woman possessed a captivating elegance, with ginger-brown tresses cascading around her flawlessly pale complexion and a statuesque, slender figure that demanded attention.

Her sharp facial features exuded a commanding beauty, drawing all eyes to her.

Draped in a long black coat that nearly brushed the floor, she stood before Clarissa-an unexpected vision.

Both women stood in silence, stunned and bewildered, each expecting the other to be Reynold.

Breaking the stillness, Clarissa's voice wavered as her shock transformed into a quest for answers.

"Who are you? And how did you get the keys to enter?" she inquired, her tone tinged with a mix of confusion and concern.

The woman's initial surprise swiftly shifted to defensiveness, her tone matching Clarissa's inquisitiveness.

"I should be asking you the same. And where in the bloody hell is Reynold?" she retorted, irritation lacing her accent.

Before Clarissa could formulate a response, the sound of approaching footsteps resonated throughout the room, signaling the arrival of Reynold.

He appeared in the doorway, his face mirroring the shared astonishment between the two women.

Clarissa, her arms tightly folded across her chest, fixed her gaze on Reynold, her eyes imploring him to provide an explanation for the bewildering scene unfolding before them.

"You're here..." he uttered, surprise evident in his voice as his eyes flickered between the mysterious woman and Clarissa, attempting to comprehend the situation.

The mysterious woman, wearing a relieved smile, addressed Reynold with a slight undertone of triumph, her presence carrying an air of familiarity.

"Thank goodness you're here, Reynold. I was just about to explain to this lady who I am," she declared, her gaze momentarily shifting to Clarissa.

Clarissa's frown deepened, her frustration palpable as she looked to Reynold, her expectant eyes demanding an explanation that would dispel the confusion shrouding her.

With a sense of gravity in the air, Reynold approached Clarissa's side, taking measured and cautious steps.

He then gave her a gentle peck on the lip and spoke in a hushed tone, his words barely audible to anyone else nearby.

"You didn't mention you were coming," he said with a mixture of surprise and apprehension evident in his voice.

Clarissa's gaze intensified, her eyes fixated on Reynold's.

A touch of sadness and disappointment colored her voice as she responded, her words heavy with hurt and confusion.

"I wanted to surprise you," she explained, her tone laden with a mixture of emotions.

Her gaze shifted to the enigmatic figure of the other woman, who stood amidst their shared turmoil.

"But it seems that I'm the one who ended up pleasantly surprised," she added, a subtle edge of sarcasm tinged her words.

Reynold let out a weary sigh, his eyes darting between the two women, acutely aware of the tension that permeated the room.

He knew he had to address the situation and provide some much-needed clarity.

"Clarissa, allow me to introduce you to Vivian," he finally said, his voice tinged with both hesitation and resignation.

"This is my close friend, the one I mentioned to you... And Vivian, meet my girlfriend, Clarissa."

As his words hung in the ensuing silence, Clarissa and Vivian locked eyes, their expressions reflecting a myriad of complex and conflicting emotions.

Clarissa continued driving down the dimly lit highway, her tears cascading unabated like a relentless downpour.

The memories of that fateful night echoed within her, fueling a tempest of conflicting emotions that raged within her soul.

Her speed remained relentless, her knuckles turning white as her grip on the steering wheel tightened with increasing intensity.

"Why her, Reynold? Why?" Clarissa lamented to herself, frustration dripping from her voice as she slammed her hand onto the wheel before abruptly pulling over to the side of the deserted road.

Her head dropped, her shoulders slumping as she hunched over the steering wheel, silently succumbing to her sobs.

Vivian wasn't just a close friend of Reynold; she was his childhood companion, their lives intricately woven together.

They had shared countless experiences together.

Vivian, being the more outspoken and experienced of the two, had always been his confidante and guided him through the intricacies of relationships.

She had been his first, and even though Vivian had assured Reynold that their actions were purely driven by their friendship, a means to help him gain experience, deep inside, Vivian held deep-rooted feelings for him.

She had always nurtured dreams of a lifelong partnership with him, envisioning marriage and a family together.

However, their paths diverged after high school when Vivian decided to pursue a doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at a renowned institution in Canada, a choice that would later become a source of deep regret for her.

Upon her return, she was devastated to discover that Reynold had already moved on and found love with Clarissa.

Naturally, Vivian attempted to reclaim Reynold's affection, leading to numerous conflicts and challenges between her and Clarissa.

However, she eventually recognized Reynold's unwavering dedication to Clarissa, which prompted her to step back.

While Clarissa found solace in knowing Reynold's devotion, she couldn't help but feel threatened by Vivian's profound understanding of him-a bond shared only by Clarissa and Reynold's mother.

Overwhelmed by these emotions, Clarissa found herself sobbing, her head resting on the steering wheel.

She questioned her ability to overcome another battle with Vivian, especially considering the fragile state of her marriage with Reynold, which seemed to be on the verge of breaking.

Through Clarissa's sobs, her phone rang, interrupting her heartache.

She hesitated for a moment before lifting her head from the steering wheel to answer the call.

On the other end, she heard the worried voice of her elder sister, Sophia.

"Clary, where are you? I'm at your house, and the kids said you and Reynold went out.

It's getting pretty late, and you remember what Mom said about being extra cautious now that you know who is back," Sophia's tone was laced with concern as she spoke.

Clarissa struggled to compose herself before responding. "I found out who she is," she said, her voice quivering.

"Who? I don't understand what you're talking about, Clary," Sophia sounded puzzled.

"Vivian... she's the one Reynold's been cheating on me with," Clarissa clarified, the words coming out in a choked whisper.

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the line before Sophia spoke again. "Where are you?" she asked.

Clarissa sighed, the weight of her emotions overwhelming her.

"On the side of the road... somewhere...I don't know...I don't even think I can drive anymore," she said, her frustration evident.

Sophia's voice was soothing as she spoke, "Don't worry, just stay there, I'll find you, okay?" before the line went dead.
