Chapter 54
Chapter 54
Nestled on her bed, Clarissa held a steaming cup of tea, its warmth seeping into her hands.
As wisps of steam danced in the air, they formed a delicate barrier, veiling her face from the outside world.
Despite trying, she couldn't shake off the lingering thoughts of the meeting she had with her family a few days prior, where they had discussed the troubling news of Red Saint's reappearance.
The reappearance of the sadistic psycho, had plunged her into a state of deep concern, leaving a disturbing impression in the recesses of her mind.
It was only natural for her to feel worried given the circumstances.
Lost in her ruminations, her train of thought was abruptly shattered by the sound of approaching footsteps.
From within the walk-in closet, where their clothing was stored and they prepared themselves, Reynold emerged into the room.
As he retrieved his car keys from the nearby bedside drawer, getting ready for his departure, Clarissa couldn't suppress the urgency in her voice and called out to him.
"Reynold..." Her voice trembled with uncertainty, causing him to pivot on his heels, an eyebrow arched inquisitively, wondering why she had halted him in his tracks.
"Are you heading out?" she inquired, her words laced with a blend of genuine concern and curiosity.
Reynold cast a fleeting, disinterested glance in her direction before responding, his bored expression clearly indicating that he saw no significance in her inquiry.
"Just meeting up with a friend," he replied, his tone dismissive.
Unfazed by his initial response, Clarissa persisted, her voice betraying a hint of anxiety.
"Um... Reynold," she stammered, her nervousness causing her to instinctively lick her lips. "I mean, where exactly are you going?"
An audible sigh escaped Reynold's lips, irritation seeping into his voice.
"I don't understand. Is this some sort of interrogation?" he retorted, his tone bristling with annoyance.
A soft, gentle shake of her head accompanied Clarissa's reassurance.
"No, honey, that's not what I meant," she quickly interjected, attempting to dispel any hint of suspicion.
"Well, it certainly seemed that way," Reynold retorted sharply, his response laced with sarcasm, as he turned away, ready to resume his departure.
Clarissa's voice quivered with a mix of vulnerability and hurt as she mustered the courage to speak up once more.
"But I'm your wife. I should at least know who you've chosen to spend this beautiful Saturday evening with, especially when you could be here with your wife and children."
Reynold cast a fleeting, emotionless glance in her direction before making a move to open the door and depart once more.
However, this time, Clarissa couldn't bear to stay seated any longer.
She hastily got up from the bed, placing her cup of tea on the nightstand, and reached out, delicately grabbing his arm in a bid to halt his progress.
"Reynold," she called out, her voice tinged with a sense of desperation and pleading.
He pivoted on his heels, his eyes settling on the arm she held before rising to meet her gaze.
"Look, I'm not trying to interrogate you or anything," she spoke softly, her voice gentle and soothing. "I just genuinely want you to be safe."
Reynold remained silent, his unwavering gaze fixed upon her.
"With the reappearance of Red Saint, everyone has been advised to take precautions for their own safety."
"Knowing where you're going could provide reassurance and help us stay vigilant if any unforeseen circumstances arise."
"I just care about your well-being, that's all," she concluded, her words laced with anxiety as she anxiously awaited his response.
Reynold's reply was brief, almost dismissive.
"I'll be out late, don't wait up for me," he said, releasing himself from her grip and finally walking out of their bedroom door
As the door closed behind him, Clarissa stood there, a profound sense of disappointment washing over her, causing her heart to sink.

Reynold pushed open the door and entered the dimly lit bar, a sense of nostalgia washing over him as he took in the familiar surroundings.
Though it had been some time since his last visit, the ambiance was still familiar to him.
The air was punctuated with laughter and the harmonious clinking of glasses, interwoven with the smooth melodies of jazz gently caressing the room.
His discerning gaze swept across the scene, absorbing the opulent decor that adorned the establishment and taking note of the patrons who exuded an unmistakable air of affluence and refinement.
Clad in a meticulously tailored charcoal gray suit that draped flawlessly over his frame, he emanated an air of effortless elegance.
The crisp white shirt beneath his jacket bore a slight hint of informality, with its collar left unbuttoned, exuding a refined yet relaxed demeanor.
Navigating his way through the bustling crowd, he finally reached the polished mahogany bar counter, where the bartender skillfully crafted an array of drinks.
The bartender's attentive eyes met his as he approached, swiftly assessing his distinguished appearance with a single glance.
"What can I get for you, sir?" the bartender inquired, his voice exuding a refined professionalism.
Reynold paused for a moment, contemplating his preference before responding.
He yearned for something potent, a libation that would envelop him in a comforting warmth from within.
Leaning casually against the counter, his gaze wandered over the impressive collection of liquor bottles, proudly displayed against the mirrored wall behind the bartender.
His attention was captivated by a bottle of rare whiskey, its contents glistening enticingly under the soft, alluring glow of the bar lights.
"I'll have a glass of that," he responded, indicating the coveted whiskey with a pointed finger. "Neat."
Acknowledging Reynold's choice, the bartender nodded, his skilled hands executing precise movements.
He poured a generous portion of the amber liquid into a gleaming crystal tumbler, releasing the alluring scents of oak and caramel into the surrounding air.
With a fluid motion, he slid the glass across the counter towards Reynold, who effortlessly caught it, exuding confidence in his grasp.
Expressing gratitude with a nod, Reynold lifted the glass to his lips and took a deliberate sip.
The whiskey caressed his taste buds, its intricate and nuanced flavors captivating his senses.
He relished the moment, savoring the exceptional taste that only a truly exquisite whiskey could offer.
After a brief moment, Reynold placed the now-empty glass onto the counter, producing a firm and deliberate thud.
The bartender's eyebrows subtly arched, taken aback by Reynold's impressive speed in consuming the expensive spirit, but swiftly regaining composure.
"Would you like another one, sir?" he inquired.
Reynold nodded, a gentle smile adorning his lips. "Yes, please."
As the bartender was about to take Reynold's order, a woman suddenly appeared by his side, emanating confidence and impeccable taste.
She donned a fitted black dress that accentuated her curves, paired with sleek high-heeled shoes, and her ginger brown hair cascaded down her shoulders, framing her face perfectly.
"Scratch that order, please," she declared in a refined British accent, causing the bartender to pause and glance back at Reynold for confirmation.
"A Louis VIII would be more suitable," she challenged playfully, "And one for me as well."
Noticing Reynold's lack of objection, the bartender acknowledged her request and began preparing the new drinks.
The woman then turned to Reynold, casting a sidelong glance and remarked, "Darling, if you're going to have a drink, at least make it something with a bit more panache." holding his gaze with a smile, to which Reynold responded with a sly smile of his own.
"Looks like I'll need to make a note of that," he responded with a playful tone that hinted at his familiarity with her.
Unbeknownst to them, Clarissa sat at a table some distance away, concealed behind dark sunglasses.
Clutching a magazine tightly, her expression betrayed a deep anger, tears glistening in her eyes as a result of her intense frustration and sadness.
Watching the interaction between Reynold and the woman with envy and heartache that she could not conceal, she closed the magazine quietly and put it away before rising from her seat.
With a determined stride, she left the bar unnoticed by the captivating pair at the counter.
