Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 51

Chapter 51

The figures within the room were barely visible in the dim light that cast a faint glow.

In the corner, a man stood with a firm grip on his gun, his eyes fixed on a huddled woman who trembled with fear.

Beads of sweat trickled down both their faces and necks, uniting them in their tension

The atmosphere in the room was suffocating with tension as the man's chest heaved, and he struggled to catch his breath with short, sharp gasps.

"Please," he whispered, his voice quivering. "Don't make me do this."

Despite his desperate plea, a figure emerged from the shadows, looming over the man with a menacing presence.

Leaning in close to his ear, the figure spoke in a cold and icy voice, "Pull the trigger."

With his hand trembling and his heart racing, the man managed to resist the urge to pull the trigger, keeping his finger still as he gazed at the terrified woman before him.

"Please," he begged once more. "I can't do this."

The shadowy figure persisted, his voice barely above a whisper. "Do it, Charles. You know you want to. End her life quickly and painlessly. It won't take more than a second.

The room was filled with a deafening silence, interrupted only by the sound of Charles's rapid breaths and the soft sobs of the trembling woman before him.

Despite his firm grip on the gun, his hand trembled, his eyes fixed on her helpless form.

The figure lurking in the shadows remained silent, waiting for Charles to carry out his sinister plan. But he did not.

"I can't," he finally whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "I can't kill her."

"If you don't pull the trigger, I'll do it myself," the menacing figure threatened from the darkness, causing the woman to shake her head and sob more loudly.

"No, Charles, don't listen to him. You love me. You won't kill me. You don't have to."

Charles's breaths were ragged as he shook his head, his fear palpable as he clung to the gun.

"I don't want to," he managed to reply, his voice trembling. "I don't want to hurt you."

The figure in the shadows laughed in response to Charles's hesitation.

"Yes you do, Charles. You hate her." the voice taunted.

"She betrayed you, gave your love to someone else. Pull the trigger."

Charles gritted his teeth and shook his head once more.

"No," he repeated, trying to steady his trembling hands. "I won't do it."

"Pull the trigger, Charles," the voice persisted, the pressure mounting with each passing moment.

Charles shook his head, his fingers tightening around the gun as he tried to resist the urge to comply with the figure's demands.

"No!" he yelled, his voice filled with determination.

"Pull the trigger, damn it!" the figure shouted, their anger palpable.

Suddenly, a voice pierced through the thick shroud of Charles' thoughts like a blade. "Charles!"

Startled, he lifted his head to find his cousin Alexander staring at him with a furrowed brow, his voice laced with concern.

"Are you alright?" Alexander inquired, his genuine worry palpable.

He exhaled, attempting to steady his rattled nerves.

"Yeah...Yeah, I'm fine," he answered, his voice quavering ever so slightly. "Just lost in my thoughts."

Alexander studied him for a brief moment, noticing Charles's interlaced, trembling fingers.

He let out a sigh and sat down beside him, sensing the gravity of the situation but Charles averted his gaze, not wanting to show his vulnerability to Alexander.

Despite this, Alexander placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and spoke in a reassuring tone.

"Hey, you're okay. You hear me?" he said softly.

When Charles remained silent, Alexander called out his name again, this time with a hint of concern. "Charles..."

Finally he turned to look back at Alexander, tears welling up in his eyes. "No, I'm not okay," he said softly.

"In my dreams, I keep seeing her every night," he continued, his voice shaking with emotion.

"And even when I'm awake, she's the only thing I can think of. I can't just get that picture of her out of my head."

"I'm tired," he added, his voice breaking.

"The pills don't help. They just make me feel numb to it all for a while and then they wear off. I can't keep living like this."

"I promise, with time, it will get better. You'll find a way to move on and find peace again." Alexander said, trying to comfort him.

But Charles remained unconvinced, his voice barely above a whisper as he spoke.

"How can you be so sure? It's been years, and yet the pain is still as raw as ever. Every little thing reminds me of her, and I can't escape it," he said, his lip wobbling.

He sniffled, his eyes red and puffy. "And I wonder every day, what if I never get over it? What if this pain never goes away?" he asked, his voice heavy with despair.

After a moment of silence, he continued, saying, "You know, maybe Violet was right," He trailed off.

His voice cracked as he spoke, tears streaming down his face. "I'm the reason Red Saint is in our family, I'm the reason Mary's dead. I'm the reason for everything. I'm the one he has a deal with, not anyone."

Alexander placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle squeeze.

"Listen to me, Charles," he said firmly, looking directly into his eyes.

"I know it's been a long time," Alexander said, his voice gentle.

"But you're stronger than you think. You've made progress, even if it doesn't always feel like it."

Charles looked at Alexander with a mix of gratitude and pain. "It's just...I can't escape the memories, no matter how hard I try,"

"What happened that day was not your fault. The past is the past, and you will heal. It won't be easy, but it will happen with time, okay?" Charles nodded, wiping his tears with his palm.

"Good. Promise me you'll keep up with your medications," Alexander requested gently and Charles nodded again, his shoulders drooping.

"Okay," he replied softly. After a brief pause, he whispered, "Thank you."

"Anytime, bro," Alexander replied with a smile, giving Charles' shoulder a reassuring squeeze once again.

As Clara and Isabel entered the space, Clara's voice broke the silence, "Hey, what's going on here?"

Alexander raised his head and exhaled wearily, "Nothing much, just getting some fresh air," he responded.

Isabel motioned towards Charles, who averted his gaze, and silently inquired about him.

Alexander glanced at Charles, then back at the two young women standing before him. "He's alright," he assured them.

Only Isabel acknowledged his response with a nod. Clara, however, kept her attention focused on Charles, and her conscience began to weigh heavily on her.

She felt remorseful for the unkind words her mother and sister had directed at him earlier and felt compelled to say something to him.

"Umm...Charles, I just wanted to say that you shouldn't let what my mother and Violet said get to you," Clara began hesitantly.

She paused for a moment before continuing, "Everyone's just really stressed out about that guy reappearing and they're saying things that they don't really mean. None of it is your fault."

"I hope you know that."She added.

Charles looked up at Clara and Isabel, his eyes now free of the tears that had been there before.

He managed a small smile and said, "Thank you, Clara. I appreciate your kind words."

Clara nodded, relieved that she had taken the opportunity to speak to Charles and offer him some comfort.

She felt a weight lift from her shoulders as she realized that her conscience was now clear.

A few moments of awkward silence followed after Clara's words of comfort to Charles.

Then Isabel spoke up, breaking the silence, "So... Alexander, have you and Camilla decided on where you're going to spend your honeymoon?" she asked tentatively, directing her gaze towards Alexander.

Alexander let out a sigh and stood up, clearly indicating that he wasn't in the mood for such discussions.

"We have more pressing matters to deal with, Isabel," he said wearily as he stood and began to walk away.

"But..." Isabel began to protest, but was interrupted by the sound of Alexander's phone ringing.

Alexander stopped in his tracks and pulled out his phone from his pocket.

The caller ID showed Lauren, Camilla's personal assistant. He pressed the answer button and held the phone to his ear.

"Yes, hello," he said in a neutral tone, but his expression slowly turned to one of worry as Lauren spoke on the other end of the line.

As Lauren's words continued, Alexander's face grew increasingly concerned.

His shoulders tensed and his brow furrowed as he listened to the news.

As Lauren conveyed the gravity of the situation to him, he could sense his heart pounding in his chest, and an unshakable feeling of dread had taken hold of him.

"Uh-huh... Okay... I understand," he said, his voice tight with worry. "Yes, I'll be there," he said before cutting the call.

As he turned back to face the group, Alexander was met with worried and curious expressions from his sister, Isabel, and cousins, Charles and Clara.

"What's the matter?" Charles asked on behalf of the group, as they were all curious about the cause of Alexander's sudden uneasiness.

Alexander's chest tightened as he took a deep breath, his mind racing with worry. "That was Lauren, Camilla's personal assistant," he spoke in a low, tense voice.

"She just called to inform me that Camilla was in an accident on her way to work," he continued, the weight of his words heavy with apprehension.

The group exchanged worried glances, their concern for Camilla growing with each passing moment. "Is she okay?" Isabel asked.

Alexander's expression betrayed the depth of his worry. "I don't know," he said urgently. "But I have to get there and find out."

With that, he rushed off, consumed by thoughts of Camilla's well-being, his heart heavy with the weight of the situation.
