Chapter 50
Chapter 50
"May your union be as eternal as the shadows that dance upon the walls. May they guide you through the darkness and light the way to eternal love."
Alexander read, taking a moment to catch his breath before continuing.
"But be warned, not all that glitters is gold. Sometimes the shadows hold secrets that can't be ignored. Keep your eyes open and your hearts guarded, for the darkness may be closer than you think. With love, Red Saint."
After Alexander finished reading. A palpable tension settled over the room, leaving a chill in the air.
There was a heavy silence as everyone absorbed the message, until Isabel finally spoke up.
"What on earth does that son of a bitch want now?" Isabel asked in a low murmur, her voice betraying her clear unease at the ominous tone of the message.
"Language, please Isabel," Harriet cautioned, her tone gentle but firm. Isabel let out a sigh and nodded in apology.
"I don't understand why he's resurfaced after a whole year of silence. Didn't we pay him off?" Alexander asked, looking at both his father George and Harriet, his grandmother with a troubled expression.
"We already paid him off. He's probably just trying to extort more money from us and this is just a new tactic to intimidate us," George reassured Alexander, attempting to ease his son's troubled mind.
"Don't worry, son. We'll give him what he wants and he'll slink away like the coward he is," George added, his tone firm and resolute.
"Let's hope so," Alexander replied, his voice still tinged with unease.
"I don't think hoping for anything positive will have much effect on what he wants this time. And I'm skeptical that he'll simply disappear after we pay him off again," Violet interjected, her tone laced with doubt.
"It's possible that there's more to this than just money. We need to be prepared for any eventuality," she added, her tone serious and measured.
Clarissa's voice broke through the tense silence, seeking further clarification. "What do you mean?" she asked, her tone conveying a mix of curiosity and concern.
Violet paused to wet her lips before she began to explain her concerns more fully.
"What I mean is that we may have been approaching this all wrong. The reason we've been paying him all this money is because he holds a video of Charles as leverage against our family."
"Now we all know that that video is a threat that could cause immense damage to us all if it were to be released," she explained.
"But every time we pay him off, he still finds a way to hurt someone before disappearing again," Violet continued.
"My point is, why would he choose this moment to send such a threatening message to Alexander's home, especially right after his wedding to Camilla?"
Violet said, glanced around the room, her eyes searching for any signs of comprehension before Harvey, Alexander's mother, spoke up. "What exactly are you getting at?"
Violet's sigh was heavy with the weight of her words. "Normally, when we pay him off, he then chooses someone at random to inflict his sadistic whims upon. We have no way of predicting who he will target next," she explained.
"But this time, it feels like he's deliberately leaving us a clue as to who his next victim will be."
"Camilla," Alexander muttered with a sinking feeling in his stomach. And the room fell silent at Alexander's words.
It was as if the weight of Violet's suspicions had just been confirmed.
"No, no, no," Harriet said, shaking her head. "There's no way he would go after Camilla."
"But it's not impossible," Violet countered.
"He knows how much Camilla means to Alexander, and that's exactly why he might choose her. It's the perfect way to hurt him."
The tension in the room was palpable as they all sat with the possibility hanging over their heads.
"I don't think he would go after Camilla," Charles interjected from the side of the room. "She has nothing to do with him."
Violet leveled a scornful gaze at him. "We never had any dealings with him either," she retorted.
"Until you brought him into our lives." Violet added.
"Okay, Violet, that's enough," Sophia interrupted, standing to her feet. "If your parents didn't teach you to mind your tongue, I'd be happy to assist them.
Diana, who had distanced herself from the family, begrudgingly attended the meeting as she had no choice but to confront the issue of Red Saint.
However, Sophia's words left her feeling insulted and indignant. In defense of her daughter, she rose to confront her elder sister.
"How dare you speak to my daughter like that?" Diana's voice dripped with anger and disdain as she spoke, her words sharp and cutting.
"No, Diana, how dare your daughter try to blame this on my son. Charles is more of a victim of that sadistic psycho than any of us here. And not to mention the fact that she's always taken advantage of his reserved nature to bully him. I won't tolerate it this time," Sophia retorted.
"Well, then maybe your son should learn to stand up for himself and stop hiding behind his mother's apron strings, letting her fight all his battles for him!" Sophia yelled back, before turning her attention to Charles, who was starting to look affected by the words.
"Did you hear me, Charles? Man up!" she added.
As tensions escalated between Sophia and Diana, William intervened, trying to pacify his agitated wife.
"Diana, that's enough," he said in an attempt to diffuse the situation. However, Diana remained unwavering and continued to stand her ground.
Clara and Clarissa also intervened to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, but both sisters seemed unwilling to back down.
"Enough!" Harriet's voice boomed, as the sound of her cane echoed through the room.
After a tense standoff, Sophia reluctantly stepped away from Diana and sat back down.
However, Diana was still visibly angry with her arms tightly crossed, and she disregarded their mother's warning, choosing to speak her mind once more.
"Mom, I'm sorry, but I can't just let her insult me and my husband's parenting simply because she's the eldest," she protested, directing her words towards their mother.
Harriet, who had reached the end of her patience, interjected sharply. "I said enough!" she exclaimed, striking her cane again forcefully against the tiles for emphasis.
"Both of you, acting like children! Bickering in front of your own kids? Have you no shame?" Harriet scolded, shooting the two women matching looks of irritation.
Harriet let out a tired sigh. "I understand that this whole situation is stressful for all of us. But attacking each other won't help anything," she said in a more soothing tone.
"If Red Saint is really giving us a clue about his next target, as Violet suggested, then we need to take advantage of that and come up with a better plan than last time," she said firmly, her eyes meeting each family member's in turn to ensure they were all following her.
"If we're fortunate enough this time, we may be able to finally apprehend Red Saint and put an end to his blackmail and malicious acts towards anyone in this family," Her eyes lingered on Alexander as she concluded, emphasizing that her words applied to everyone, including Camilla.
