Chapter 309: The Showdown
Chapter 309: The Showdown
Emira watched the light coming her way as if in slow motion. Her feet moved instinctively as she moved to stepped out of the way. Aron had gone out of his way to use the darkest magic to kill her. But even as she moved aside, a thought rose. If she dodged this light it would go to those behind her.
Which meant the thousands of werewolves who had come for the ceremony and Lance, Kael and Zen would be hit. She froze mid step. The light wouldn’t kill her because of the Goddess’ protection. But it would kill all of those behind her. Instead of moving away, she stepped further into it’s path. She could take the impact. It might weaken her significantly. But she could manage that.
She brought the whip in front of her and stood up straighter, tightening her grip as the dark energy rushed toward her. But before the ball of dark energy could touch her, a sharp ray of silver light appeared between her and the sphere. First one, then another and then another.
Slowly, the silver rays spread wider and wrapped around the sphere like large hands, as if crushing it with pure force. The dark energy twisted violently inside the light, crackling and shaking as the two powers collided against each other.
For a brief second, it looked as though the silver light would stop it completely. Just then, the ball burst through the light and slammed into her with terrifying force, throwing her backward.
The impact shook the ground beneath her feet and sent dust and broken stone into the air. A loud sound echoed across the ground as she fell hard onto the floor, the whip slipping from her grasp as pain shot through her body.
She looked down at the small hold burning over her clothes. And then looked up at Aron who had almost collapsed to the floor as well. In that moment, she realized that she had probably been mistaken. She would not have considerably weakened from the force. She would have been on the verge of collapse.
By the time the large sphere finally reached her, the silver light had already crushed most of it away. What had once looked large enough to swallow her whole had been reduced into something much smaller, though the force behind it was still enough to send pain tearing through her body. If it had impacted her whole, she would have been worst off than Aron.
Emira forced herself to breathe as she slowly lifted her head. The silver light still surrounded her, moving around her body in long streams that pushed back the darkness lingering in the air. She turned around slowly, her chest tightening at the sight before her.
Zen, Kael, and Lance stood behind her, almost shoulder to shoulder as if they were standing as one. Their expressions were cold and focused, their eyes fixed ahead while silver light continued to pour from them without stopping. The rays moved around her like a shield, wrapping tightly around the remains of the dark magic and crushing it further each second.
Their eyes met then and Emira slowly stood up, and raised her whip. The silver energy twisted around the gold one, as if braiding into one form.
Aron’s eyes widened the moment he saw it. The silver was the pure Goddess energy justreceived from the blessing. While the golden was all of them combined.
"No!" he screamed violently, the sound tearing through the air as dark energy exploded around him.
He glared at her with hatred! He was a descendant of the dark witches too! Why then, should she be blessed and he be shunned? He closed his eyes and spread his arms.
Soon, the floor beneath his feet cracked the ground further while shadows twisted wildly around his body. His expression hardened into something almost desperate as he lifted both hands toward the shield of light still surrounding him, albeit weakly. Until now, he had used the life forces as protection. But now, he would use it to attack.
The silver barrier around his body began to shift unnaturally. Slowly, he pulled the energy toward himself, forcing it tighter and tighter until it wrapped around him like armor before slowlty receding, leaving parts of him vulnerable.
The air around him began to distort. Emira narrowed her eyes immediately. Whatever he was about to do would be worse than before.
Before Aron could send the energy toward her, Emira moved. The shield had just left his legs vulnerable. Without wasting time, she raised the whip and struck. For a second, the entire lower half of his leg glowed brightly before it burned away into ash completely.
But Aron seemed not to notice the missing leg, even as he continued to chant something in the ancient language. Soon, she felt Kael, Zen and Lance come to stand closer to her. Their hands came over her, fusing their lights closer to hers.
For the first time since the battle had started, all four of them stood facing Aron together. Aron released the power then as it came flying towards her with great force. They four of them moved in unison.
The two powers clashed but in the next moment, the light that Aron had sent, changed direction, splitting into two arrows. One continued to fight with the energy from the whip, while the other moved towards Emira.
Pain shot through her before any of them had a chance to react. The golden light seemed to lose control then. It flared around the whip suddenly and then strange symbols began appearing across Emira one after another.
"Emira," he said sharply. But she could no longer hear him properly.
The golden light was no longer listening to her. It spread outward wildly, swallowing the silver energy around it instead of merging with it. Even Aron’s expression seemed to change from hatred to shock.
And then the Goddess mark over Emira’s chest began burning bright enough to shine through her clothes.
Everyone’s eyes widened.
