Chapter 408 - 386: Seaside Vacation (3)
As soon as the wallet was opened, what came into view was a wallet photo. The photo showed a boy and girl in their youthful days. The girl was clearly her, but it seemed to conflict with her current appearance.Because in the photo, the girl was smiling brightly, it was a look he had never seen before.
"Who is this?" He took out the photo from inside the wallet, disregarding her angry expression, and asked her frankly.
Xia Yan glared at him and reached out to snatch the photo, but Yang Hexuan raised his hand high, out of her reach even as she stood on tiptoe.
"If you don’t tell, don’t think you can have it."
Xia Yan gave him a fierce look, walked away from him, went around behind him, and recklessly stuffed the things he had dumped out back into her bag.
Yang Hexuan knew his behavior was excessive, but he wasn’t in the habit of apologizing. Moreover, he had always done as he pleased in front of her. He didn’t like her hiding everything about herself, which made him all the more curious to know her secrets.
"Is he your boyfriend?"
Xia Yan didn’t say anything, picked up her camera bag, and was about to leave. Yang Hexuan strode over, closed the door that she had just cracked open, and pressed her between the door and his chest, making her appear even smaller.
"Not talking? Then let me guess."
"He’s someone you liked, you had a happy time together, but he’s dead now, so you..."
She immediately got anxious: "Don’t you dare talk about him like that!"
It was rare to see her lose control of her emotions. Yang Hexuan, however, smiled slightly, as if he had found a way to conquer her.
"Oh? If he’s not dead yet you’ve never been seen together, then you broke up? Ex-boyfriend?"
She seemed to recall something, her expression turned a bit somber, but she stubbornly looked at him, refusing to say a single word.
Yang Hexuan examined the photo, looking at the two people in it. "This girl’s smile is so beautiful, and this man is so annoying..."
As he spoke, he walked back to the room, took out a pair of scissors from the tool bag, and without waiting for Xia Yan’s reaction, he cut the photo in half, proudly looking at her stunned expression: "I’ll keep this half, what about this man?"
Without waiting for Xia Yan to reply, he pulled out a lighter and, as if talking to himself, said: "Let’s burn it."
Watching the face in the photo slowly consumed by the flames, Xia Yan’s eyes reddened. Yang Hexuan observed her every move, noticing that she did not seem as anxious as he had imagined. As the photo turned to ashes, her expression showed regret, but it also seemed she had come to terms with something.
Yang Hexuan indifferently threw the nearly burnt-out photo to the ground, then said to her: "Sweep this up and come downstairs for dinner."
After he left, Xia Yan stood there for a long time before slowly approaching the photo, or to be more accurate, the pile of ashes.
She squatted down and gently touched it, trying to pick it up, but it broke apart as soon as she touched it.
Just like her feelings, wanting to salvage them but finding no room to do so.
Burned it was, it was only a lingering thought for her.
Once promising to chase dreams together, now only she remained walking that path.
She stood up, wrapped the ashes in a tissue, and threw them into the garbage bin.
What’s the use of holding onto memories alone? No matter how much she missed him, he wouldn’t come back.
As she stood lost in thought in the room alone, the door opened—it was Yang Hexuan as expected. "Taking your sweet time? Do you need me to drag you down?"
