Chapter 245 - 223: Then I Will Elope with You
Shen Yanchen frowned at her, "Why are you suddenly worried about this?""But it’s indeed a problem. Your grandmother doesn’t know yet, and she already has a prejudice against me..."
Shen Yanchen pinched her face hard with his thumb and forefinger, making her face distort.
"Gu Qimiao, your illness is nothing to worry about. Aren’t you healthy and living well until now?"
She frowned and moved his hand away, "But it’s still incomplete..."
"It’s a special gift from heaven because it loves you. ’Pain’ is not a good feeling, being numb to it is your luck."
Gu Qimiao still looked unhappy, "But they don’t think so, and... I don’t even know what ’pain’ is. Maybe it would make me uncomfortable, but at least that’s a normal person."
"Then we’ll tell Grandma tomorrow." Shen Yanchen continued, "Actually, not feeling pain has many advantages."
"Hmm?"
He looked at her with a mischievous smile, "For instance... being resilient."
Gu Qimiao blushed, furrowed her brows, completely not expecting him to say such vulgar words, feeling that this wasn’t the Shen Yanchen she knew.
She said angrily, "I’m not joking with you right now!"
"Alright, let’s sleep. I’ll talk to her tomorrow."
"But what if Grandma dislikes me because of this? What if she wants me to divorce you?"
Shen Yanchen stroked her head reassuringly, "Then I’ll elope with you."
Gu Qimiao looked up at him, sniffed, her eyes showing a hint of emotion, then mumbled, "Then I’d become the bad woman who separates you from your family."
Shen Yanchen closed his eyes, with his chin resting on her hair, inhaling the scent of her hair, he said softly, "Then I’ll be the bad man who fell in love with a bad woman."
Gu Qimiao raised her head from his embrace, looking at him with closed eyes, hesitated to speak, but ultimately said nothing, tightening her grip around his arm.
This time she wouldn’t compromise easily, she would strive for their future and wouldn’t let go of his hand easily.
Maybe because of the exercise, she didn’t lose sleep over these worries. His scent made her feel at ease, like embracing the whole world.
...
Dudu didn’t leave; she naturally stayed in Shen Yiran’s room.
She was causing trouble alone in the room, but Shen Yiran ignored her.
Dudu rolled on his bed, seeing that it was getting late, she urged him, "Su Bao, it’s almost twelve, go to sleep."
Shen Yiran ignored her, continuing to type on the keyboard.
Dudu crawled off the bed and walked to his desk, grabbing his clothes, and quietly ordered, "I told you to sleep, didn’t you hear?"
Shen Yiran stopped his actions and turned to look at her, "How can I sleep with you hanging around here?"
Dudu immediately pointed to the nearby sofa, "I can sleep there! I promise not to bother you!"
Shen Yiran stared at her, she blinked at him, then, as if guaranteeing she’d behave, she ran to the sofa with an injured behind, lay down hugging a small pillow, and showed half her head to look at him.
His gaze softened, he closed his laptop, and got up to go to the bathroom.
Dudu smiled contentedly, lying obediently on the sofa.
Shen Yiran came out, glanced at her, and before she could turn her gaze to him, he switched off the room’s light.
He casually threw a thin blanket to her, then lay down on the bed himself.
Dudu pulled the thin blanket off her face, smiling as she draped it over herself, secretly happy for this caring gesture.
As she turned over, she accidentally touched the injury on her behind, gasping, she silently rubbed it with her hand.
She looked at him in the dark and asked, "Su Bao, why aren’t you sharing a room with that woman?"
Facing away from her, Shen Yiran opened his eyes, then closed them again without answering her.
Listening to her rustle around on the sofa for a while until she finally settled down.
The moonlight was bright tonight, illuminating the room beautifully. Before, he couldn’t sleep without her, now with her lying a few meters away on the sofa, he still couldn’t sleep. Maybe only holding her would feel comfortable?
How could he break this habit?
Feeling like he had been lying for a long time, he wanted to pick up his phone to check the time. Just as his fingers moved, he heard a small sound from the sofa behind him.
Then she tentatively called, "Su Bao?"
He didn’t move, kept his eyes closed, and ignored her.
"Su Bao?" She called again, clearly inching closer.
Thinking he was asleep, she lifted the blanket beside him, boldly climbed onto his bed, and snuggled close to his back.
After pausing for a while, seeing no response from him, she wrapped her small arms around him, her head rubbing against his back, finding a comfortable position and relaxed, sleeping against his back.
Shen Yiran’s face unknowingly softened, his body relaxing along with hers, feeling her holding him tightly, as if afraid he’d wake up and run away.
Turns out she was feigning sleep too? No wonder she offered to sleep on the sofa so readily, she had planned this all along.
What exactly was so good about him? He just made her sad, why was she so stubborn?
...
Early the next morning, since it was Monday, Shen Yanchen had to go to work, he woke up Gu Qimiao as well.
Gu Qimiao dragged her tired and sore body out of bed, feeling groggy, until Shen Yanchen said, "Anyway, let’s clear things up today so you won’t worry."
"Clear... Clear what up?"
"What you talked about last night."
Gu Qimiao suddenly sobered up, opened her mouth to refuse, but then thought, if she could avoid today, sooner or later she would have to face this issue. Since he said that last night, she shouldn’t worry too much, right?
Still, she didn’t want him to have a strained relationship with his family because of her. With a family so happy, she wouldn’t feel at ease even if he chose to be with her knowing she might break it apart.
She could ignore outsiders and be with him at all costs, but these were his family.
She didn’t know what it felt like to have a family, but precisely because of that, she treasured kinship even more.
He didn’t feel much warmth from home growing up, but coming back here with so many people loving him, she didn’t want him to be troubled no matter what.
Shen Yanchen looked at her troubled face, pinched it gently, "Why the look of parting at death? Grandma might seem bad to you, but she’s already accepted you in her heart, what are you worried about?"
Gu Qimiao rubbed her pinched face, still a bit anxious, holding onto his arm as they went downstairs, so she wouldn’t feel so nervous and weak.
