Chapter 226: Escaping Radiance

Chapter 226: Escaping Radiance

"I can already feel the power of Fate! The Historical Number is calling me!" Dong He shouted madly. His eyes were piercingly red, and a massive surge of Mental Power flowed out, causing everything around him to burst with power that shouldn't have been there.

"He has gone completely mad." Lilian warned Zoven to keep his distance.

She understood Dong He's current state all too well.

When someone with limited innate talent coveted power that did not belong to them, they would develop false perceptions upon falling into a desperate situation.

During the Historical Transition Period, such people were merely flaws in the "transition process" of others.

However, as Chess Pieces being used by higher powers, they lacked any self-awareness.

Instead, they foolishly believed that this manipulation was a sign of history favoring them.

One could only conclude that it was best to stay far away from this kind of person, as a single moment of inattention could lead to being dragged down with them.

Zoven nodded.

He knew Dong He well enough. The man was barely his cousin, nothing more than a distant relative. They had no real relationship to begin with, yet now he was expected to help this man execute a plan that was clearly an absolute joke.

The problem lay in the fact that when it came to Fey Power, having the bloodline meant possessing the innate talent, and an unawakened bloodline meant having no talent at all.

He could not even see Lilian, yet he wanted Zoven to hand over his power to him?

How utterly ridiculous!

Could it be that he expected Zoven to continuously drain his own blood just to support this fool?

Although Zoven realized that he himself had not been a good person in the past, he had at least come to his senses now and was willing to fight for Justice.

As for Dong He, his mind was entirely consumed by blindingly obvious greed and desires.

Scarlet thunder-fire materialized and erupted in all directions.

Searing Sinful Thunderfire!

Everyone possessed their own unique innate talent.

Although Dong He had only managed to advance by piling on resources, the mere fact that he could succeed in doing so meant his abilities already surpassed those of most people.

Then, recently, he had finally discovered where his true talent lay. It was in the very Spell that had killed his grandfather.

Searing Sinful Thunderfire could be cast incredibly fast, possessed immense power, and had the ability to spread. Its only flaw also happened to lie in that very spreading trait.

Because it spread automatically, it was extremely difficult to control.

What Dong He was demonstrating now was his innate talent in this specific area.

Massive amounts of blood-red thunder-fire spread in tandem with his crazed will, transforming into writhing whips that lashed out violently.

The supervisor drew his sword and slashed. A fierce wind coiled around the blade, forming a layer of protection as he severed the fiery lightning whip hurtling toward him.

The moment it snapped, the severed section of the whip liquefied.

Like highly refined molten iron, it splattered in every direction.

Meanwhile, the other whips had already sliced open the main gates of the Prison.

The supervisor watched Dong He, who was currently enveloped by countless scarlet thunder-fire whips, and took a deep breath before backing away.

As the captain of the Fourth Sub-Squad, he had been temporarily reassigned to the Prison.

Normally, only the captain of the Sixth Squad would stand guard here.

The Sixth Squad was the Holy Knight Detachment with the most manpower. Especially after Nemus expanded the ranks, their numbers had surged dramatically.

Their primary duty was to garrison various key locations.

In contrast, the Fourth Sub-Squad was a rapid response support unit, stepping in wherever problems arose.

The current situation here involved Dong He going mad while others attacked from the outside, and it was unknown if the attackers were colluding with Dong He.

He could not act impulsively. If he fought here, he could not guarantee his own victory.

He merely needed to stall for time, and victory would inevitably side with him. The Prison was located right next to the Church, meaning it would not take long for a massive wave of reinforcements to arrive.

And since Dong He's target was evidently Zoven...

The captain of the Fourth Sub-Squad spun the Blade Edge in his hand and instantly hurled it forward.

Dong He shifted his body slightly to dodge the thrown weapon, a hint of mockery flashing through his eyes.

He was nothing more than a Holy Knight.

Even though they were both of the Iron Rank, a noble Spellcaster was vastly different from these practitioners of the Life Aspect who only knew how to flaunt their physical bodies. This was an absolute advantage born from the disparity in Intelligence...

However, in the very next moment, Dong He's expression changed drastically. The soaring Knight's Sword had been caught flawlessly by a waiting hand.

Compared to Opper, Zoven was currently merely a suspect. If not for the fact that his case was of utmost importance, he would never have been detained in the deepest depths of the Prison.

Therefore, there were not too many restraints placed upon his body.

Of course, even if there had been restraints, Lilian could have helped him remove them.

Gripping the sword in his hand, Zoven cracked his neck. His entire aura instantly shifted, becoming completely different.

"Nothing but a Black Iron Rank..." Dong He's eye twitched at the sight. He now realized that the captain's throw had been deliberately aimed to deliver the sword straight into Zoven's hands.

The humiliating sensation of being played for a fool compelled Dong He to open his mouth and belittle Zoven.

Yet in the very next second, Zoven was already advancing with his blade raised.

"Let me correct you on one thing!" Zoven's aura erupted entirely, radiating the oppressive vitality of an Iron Rank entity out into his surroundings.

"Through the trials of this recent period, and driven by extreme fury, I have already found the path to the Iron Rank. And just moments ago, I completed my Advancement."

"How is that possible!" Dong He stared at Zoven, whose aura was now entirely transformed. His face was painted in utter disbelief. How could Zoven possibly achieve his Advancement without any resources?

However, Dong He swiftly changed his tone. "This must be the Fey Power, right? Quickly, give that power to me! We cousins can join forces and kill Nemus together!"

"You have gone completely mad, Dong He." Zoven looked at him, the pity in his eyes acting like a sharp blade that pierced cleanly through all of Dong He's psychological defenses.

Dong He's demeanor drastically shifted once more. "What right do you have to pity me?! You bastard whose entire family is dead, you have no right to pity me!"

Faced with Dong He's lunatic raving, Zoven simply raised his blade. Lilian extended both hands, summoning the Soul of History of the Sword of Polaris, which seamlessly merged into Zoven's body.

"Sword of Polaris: Escaping Radiance!"

A brilliant Sword Light flared. In the very next moment, the radiance vanished entirely, as if it had abruptly fled into nothingness.

The thunder-fire whips around Dong He writhed violently, guarding his perimeter. A mere Swordsman could not possibly bypass these heavy layers of protection to harm him...

Slash!

A sharp sting radiated from his neck. A segment of a Blade Edge had darted out from nowhere, slicing a clean gash directly across his throat.

The instantaneous and massive loss of blood sent a wave of dizziness crashing through his brain.

His hand instinctively flew up to clutch his neck, but the crimson liquid continued to spurt out uncontrollably.

His Mental Power involuntarily surged, attempting to forcefully intervene with his failing physical body.

The originally terrifying and imposing thunder-fire consequently lost control, scattering aimlessly into the surroundings.

He managed to cast a healing Spell with relative proficiency, attempting to knit his own wounds back together.

However, at this moment, Dong He's mind was completely blank. He had no idea how that sword strike had manifested, nor did he truly comprehend his current situation.

The only thing he knew was that he had likely suffered another crushing defeat.

Overwhelmed by deep frustration and the heavy dizziness from massive blood loss, Dong He collapsed entirely to the side.

It was at this precise moment that Dalos burst in from outside.

He glanced briefly at Dong He on the ground before shifting his gaze toward Zoven.
