Chapter 225: Madness

Chapter 225: Madness

Dong He trembled all over.

He was shaking so violently that the nearby supervisors noticed something was wrong.

"What are you doing, Dong He?" The sharp question rang out, but it fell on deaf ears.

'I have no way out anymore,' Dong He screamed in his mind.

He then raised his head, his eyes locking fiercely onto Zoven.

"You wretched brat whose entire family died, why? Why did you not listen to me?!" Dong He demanded.

His heart boiled with so much resentment that he hardly cared about anything else.

Beneath this intense hatred lay a profound terror—a terror of Nemus.

Ever since Nemus became a Great Knight, he had completely overshadowed him. Nemus was the perfect golden child, while Dong He was the incompetent prodigal son who failed at everything.

This disparity only worsened over time. As Nemus seized more and more power, Dong He was reduced to acting like a mere errand boy.Even his grandfather constantly nagged him to learn from Nemus.

Deep down, however, a burning desire to prove himself remained.

Thus, the moment he was nominated as a Bishop Candidate, Dong He resolved to secure the position no matter the cost.

He put in an immense amount of effort to achieve this, yet he only ended up playing the role of a clown.

He had burned his own grandfather to death, yet he failed to achieve a single result.

Being continuously crushed by Nemus only deepened his dread of the man.

He had been on the verge of despair when the situation with Zoven suddenly arose.

Treating it as an all-in gamble, he devised this scheme. According to his calculations, if everything went smoothly, he would become a Legend hero, while Nemus would be reduced to a rat scuttling across the street, despised by everyone.

But he never imagined that he would fail at the very first step.

Zoven refused to give him anything.

"Your family deserved to die! You do not even have the courage to avenge them," Dong He continued to curse.

However, Zoven did not even feel the slightest bit of anger.

Dong He had completely lost his mind, and the ravings of a madman held no meaning.

Instead, Zoven suddenly grew alert. He could faintly feel the winds of history beginning to blow.

This meant the prelude was over, and the main act was about to begin.

The very next moment, agonizing screams echoed from outside the prison.

The members of the Dartmenerly Family had chosen to launch a direct assault on the Church prison.

Wearing simple disguises, they attacked with absolute disregard for their own lives.

The prison guards, on the other hand, were caught entirely unawares.

They had anticipated that someone might succumb to greed and scheme for the Fae Bloodline.

However, they never expected any faction to be bold enough to directly storm a Church prison.

This was a capital offense. With so many attackers involved, there was absolutely no way to conceal their identities.

In the aftermath, Golden Rank experts would undoubtedly arrive to investigate.

Once the truth was uncovered, even a Noble family would face complete extermination.

Was it really worth it for an unconfirmed Historical Number?

Right now, however, was not the time to ponder such questions.

The enemy was already at their gates. Questioning their audacity was meaningless; the only priority was figuring out how to defend the prison until reinforcements arrived.

Just then, a member of the Dartmenerly Family loudly chanted a Sacred Whisper.

The signature power of the Dartmenerly Family flared to life.

With that, their flimsy disguises instantly lost all effect.

Dalos charged at the very forefront. The might of his Iron Rank, augmented by various resource items, drove him into a bloodthirsty frenzy.

He did not retreat, he did not defend, and he did not dodge; he only attacked.

He swung his sword again and again, ruthlessly striking down anyone who dared to stand in his path.

Right at that moment, the Captain of the Paladin Sixth Squad stationed at the prison led his team into battle. They barely managed to establish a defensive line, stalling the Dartmenerly Family's advance.

"Dalos, have you lost your mind?" the Sixth Squad Captain shouted. Naturally, he recognized Dalos, considering the man used to work for the Church.

"Ahhhhh!" Dalos offered no words in return, letting out only a beast-like roar.

He had no idea whether Dartmenerly's decision was right or wrong, nor did he know where the family's future was heading.

He only knew that for the sake of his family, he would gladly bleed until his very last drop!

The commotion outside caused a stir among those trapped inside the prison.

Aside from Zoven, who was locked up alone, several other individuals were also being held in solitary confinement nearby.

Compared to Zoven, their condition was even more miserable.

Opper was bound by several chains as thick as a man's arm. The Holy Script inscribed on them worked in tandem with a seal to completely suppress his Spellcasting Ability.

Hearing the ruckus outside, Opper was not surprised in the slightest.

While everyone else was distracted by the chaos, a guarding Paladin quietly and soundlessly tossed a ring of keys to Opper's feet.

The Paladin then immediately walked away, entering a combat-ready state as if preparing to defend against the invaders.

During his long tenure in the Church, Nemus naturally had not dedicated himself solely to its growth.

Demons were most adept at corrupting the hearts of men.

The Construct Protocol he founded needed to expand, and he had to cultivate various talents one by one.

The Church, however, already possessed an abundance of fully trained talents. All they required was a little temptation.

With Nemus's keen insight into human nature, he could easily identify those susceptible to bribery and corruption.

Thus, a faction within the Church had secretly sworn allegiance to Nemus, becoming individuals ready to fight on his behalf.

Some had their deepest desires unearthed by Nemus, causing their Faith to crumble.

Others had critical secrets uncovered by him, leaving them no choice but to follow his commands.

Regardless of the method, Nemus was never short of moles within the Church.

Opper shifted his body, concealing the keys behind his back, and quietly began to wait.

The Dartmenerly Family had caught the Church entirely unawares, and the sheer scale of the invasion exceeded all expectations.

Nearly the entire active combat force of the Dartmenerly Family had been mobilized.

They charged forth fearlessly, exhausting their accumulated resources as if they cost absolutely nothing.

Spell Scrolls crafted from Whalehide Ore were torn open and used casually. The discarded scrolls piling up by their feet were already worth enough to buy out a small merchant guild.

A battle of this magnitude was simply beyond what the limited defenses of the prison could withstand.

The Sixth Squad Captain was knocked aside by a heavy sword strike. Dalos did not waste any time finishing him off; instead, he charged straight into the depths of the prison, searching for Zoven.

Standing right outside Zoven's cell, Dong He's mind began racing as he recognized a golden opportunity.

"As expected, history and Fate are on my side!" Dong He rejoiced ecstatically, though in truth, he had already descended into madness.

Fueled by this crazed state, Dong He's Mental Power surged violently. It quickly condensed into Spells, which he unleashed upon the nearby supervisors.

This was his chance—the stepping stone to cementing his own Legend.

"Zoven, you are unworthy! Hand Lilian's honor over to me!"
