Chapter 93 **
Chapter 93 **
Maya
My lips curl higher while Finn is searching my eyes. His large hands are keeping my arms locked above my head, and my chest rises and falls in line with his breathing. Sweet Jesus—he is hot when he is suspicious. I'm aroused by the situation and secretly hoping Finn will use those arms to take me by force.
"Best friends, huh?" Finn questions.
I laugh out loud, shocked by the crazy situation. Younger Finn is more assertive than his older version, which makes sense. The Finn standing before me isn't dealing with a heavy load of guilt, the main thing holding back the older one.
Without guilt or concern about the age difference between us, Finn seems as sex-crazed as me, and without those boundaries—shit, I'm getting riled up already.
"Uh…" I'm forced to bite my lower lip not to laugh again. I'm busted. "I guess we were more than friends..."
He smiles, and his eyes touch each of my features as if he is seeing them for the first time. He isn't as muscular as his future self, but still as mind-blowing.
"Lovers?"
I breathe out the answer. "We were..."
His expression turns less severe. "Were?"
My heart squeezes, and Finn seems to pick up on my mood shifting. He runs his eyes over my face as if looking for a clue to the word I spoke, and the slight smile on his lips breaks me.
For the first time, I see a hint of the extraordinary man Finn will grow up to become, and suddenly, I'm quipping for air.
Finn. Losing him destroyed me. But as I'm standing here, faced with the man I love in the future, I realize I'm about to change everything. We won't meet inside that basement, and we won't kiss and make love—the future is being rewritten, and I don't know if I like that.
Because, like it or not, Finn has the love that stains your soul and makes you forget about other men. No matter what, I can't break free from the spell he has put me under—the man got me wrapped around his finger. Finn has a golden throne in my heart's chamber, and I got more of him in my veins than blood.
I don't want to forget about him, but living with the pain of losing him again when I return to my timeline—I'm not sure if I can handle that without crying myself to sleep every night.
Tears spring to life, causing Finn to brush strands of white hair away from my face with an almost-gentle expression. "What's wrong?"
I sob. "You're dead..."
Finn's lips quirk up, and he uses a finger to lift my chin, forcing me to stare into his mesmerizing blues.
"I'm not dead—I'm right here."
My lip trembles. Pathetic, but I can't help myself. My chest heaves in an effort to breathe.
"But you don't have your memories..."
Finn towers over me, with those silent lips pressed together. I so badly want to know what's going on inside his head.
"True." Finn moves my hand to his chest, keeping it there with a growing smile on his lips. "But does it matter? I recognize affection when I see it—you got it bad for me, little wolf. So when the chemistry isn't dead, do those forgotten memories truly matter?"
The shock from his spoken nickname settles like lead in my stomach.
"What did you just call me?"
"Little wolf?" His eyes crinkle when he frowns. "The sprites-..."
We both grow quiet when a portal opens behind Finn. He rapidly spins around, setting me down on the ground. It warms my heart how he steps in front of me, ready to protect me, although we hardly know each other.
Finn down over his shoulder, lifting an eyebrow. "You brought friends?"
I take a deep breath, bracing myself. "No, I didn't."
"Interesting."
Lightning zaps around the portal, and a tear appears in the middle of it, a window into another world.
"Oh, wow! Guys, we made it! We have found another world!"
We both stare at the portal as a woman steps out of it. Other people follow her, but I immediately realize this person must be Beatrice—I can feel it in my gut.
My heart pounds as I ogle her, the red dress she is wearing, her wavy black hair with white streaks, and her red-painted lips. She is gorgeous, tall, and way curvier than me.
"What a beautiful world!" Beatrice spins around in wonder. Her dress rides up over her legs, showing off her skin. "And the weather is warm!"
I swallow thickly and glance up at Finn, who widens his eyes upon making eye contact with Beatrice. Uh-oh. My heart clenches, and it gets harder to breathe, watching Beatrice and Finn approach each other.
It gets obvious then, the fact that I've fallen in love with Finn. I'm so in love with him. Lost and invested. His piercing eyes, and beautiful face. Fuck! It hurts seeing him with someone else, and I swear my skin burns like the pits of hell when he steps closer to Beatrice.
No.
I don't want them to get together.
Finn belongs with me. We might not be mates, but I know in my heart and soul that the moon goddess made a mistake when she didn't match us.
"C-Could you be..." Beatrice's lips part as she appeasingly let her eyes roam Finn's tall, muscular form. She even blushes. "I never thought my mate would be an alien life form!"
Finn takes yet another step forward—why wouldn't he? Beatrice is his mate, while I'm this random chick who showed up out of nowhere and claimed the bitch was evil. Of course, he will pick her side after the mate-bond has kicked to life.
"Mate..." Finn whispers. "You're my mate..."
I stare at the couple, and I think I'm going to be sick. Nothing I've ever felt can compare to the pain ripping open my chest right now.
