Chapter 77 **
Chapter 77 **
Maya
I'm laughing, not because I'm having fun, but because I do not know what the hell just happened. Finn flew through a portal and took us into a magical world with flowers taller than trees. And the actual trees are more extensive than skyscrapers, seeming to reach for the skies, and Finn? He turned into a giant in mid-air!
With every ounce of strength in my body, I crawl from beneath Finn's massive hand and grasp for air the minute I'm out. The fairy himself is unconscious, and my leg is broken—fantastic!
I reach for the orb and place it on Finn's chest. The black wolf inside is quiet and staring at my leg. I smile at her and then let my eyes roam to Finn's pointed ears. He looks different now, more fairy-like, with an ethereal glow seeming to come from within his pores.
My heart thuds. Finn might be larger than life, yet it does nothing to change how I feel about him.
"I wish I could help Finn. He saved our lives." I sigh and sit down on top of Finn. "And I'm useless."
The wolf inside the orb is moving, and when I glance down at her, she tilts her head expectantly. I have this inkling informing me she wants to tell me something, so I pick up the orb.
"What do you want?"
My inner wolf wags her tail, and a glow surrounds the crystal orb until it entirely vanishes. I can feel a warmth pass through my chest, and tears form in my eyes when I hear a silent whisper inside my head saying, "Finally reunited," before we merge.
With bubbles inside my chest, I close my eyes and sob in pure joy. I've always felt so lost, and having an inner wolf makes the world seem brighter. I'm finally myself, not broken into pieces.
"I'm glad you're where you belong..."
After I've whispered my sentence, my hands glow with a magical light. I stare down at my palms, gasping when the light spreads to my wound, healing it in no time. And the healing process is unlike any I've ever seen before—the entire bone is repaired!
I stare at my leg before falling to my knees. Finn is massive, yet I press my palms to his warm skin, hoping to heal him.
With my eyes closed, I whisper to myself. "Please, please, please! I know he is big, but I can do this—I won't let my friend die!"
My eyes flash to life. I don't know how my magic abilities work, and when my light covers Finn, I breathe in relief. I'm healing my friend, and he stirs in his sleep, which must be a good sign.
I continue healing Finn, watching his split wings turn back into their former glory. Sadly, the fairy must still be exhausted. He doesn't open his eyes even after I'm done using my powers.
Not that I'm complaining—I'm honestly freaking out a little over the size of him. It will take some time getting used to, and with a tight-lipped smile, I stroll over to the side of him.
There are flowers beneath us, plenty of them, and I close my eyes, praying to shape-shift. I'm breathing in and out, then scream in sharp pain when my bones seem to break and recover multiple times before I'm standing on four furry legs.
I wobble and whimper when I tumble down from the fairy's chest. My legs flounder, and my head spin from the abnormality of seeing paws instead of hands.
Something resembling a howl erupts from my mouth, and when I roll onto my paws in the tall grass, I notice that I'm much larger than your usual werewolf. I'm nothing compared to the breathing mountain called Finn, but I'm impressed with myself, regardless.
I happily run in a circle around Finn until deciding to venture between the trees at super speed. There are so many scents everywhere, and everything is so exciting!
I bolt around like an absolute crackhead, daring to leave Finn in the clearing as I dart past flowers in various sizes. I'm having fun and gallop faster until two massive human-like feet drop from the sky.
My ears pull back, and I lift my chin, growling at the giant newcomer. They smell weird, like pinecones and various seeds, and I whimper when a hand grabs my scruff.
I flail in the air, growling at the curious red eyes blinking at me. It seems I'm faced with yet another fairy—this one got red hair and orange wings, probably some fire-type idiot. It's a woman, and her smile is anything but kind when she tilts her head.
"Oh, what do we have here?"
One second of staring at her, and I decide that I've spent enough time playing the victim. I growl and move forward in the air, traveling from one spot to the other in the blink of an eye. It seems while my sister and father can teleport, I can travel at the speed of light.
"What the hell are you?!"
The fairy tries to swat me like a fly, but I dash over to their neck, biting as hard as I can before jumping to one place, then another before my enemy seems to give up. They are bleeding in various locations and stand up when I jump down to the ground.
"Fuck this shit!" The fairy is gritting their pointy teeth at me. "I thought you were easy food—I was wrong!"
I growl back at the fairy and take a step forward, which makes my enemy retaliate. They back into a tree trunk, and I lower my head, ready to show this punk that size isn't everything—I can kill them!
"Maya, is that you?"
I hear Finn's sleepy, amused voice and turn around with a wagging tail. My killer instinct dies, and I rush to greet the fairy as if he is my beloved master and I'm his loyal dog.
Finn laughs when I jump on top of his chest to lick his face. In his eyes, I'm a chihuahua with the appearance of a black wolf. But while I'm small, I'm thunder and fire, I'm deadly and powerful, and—Jesus Christ, Finn is good at delivering me those scratches!
A whimper escapes my lips at the same time my limbs turn into jelly. I glance up into Finn's kind blue eyes and pick up on my inner wolf spirit, saying, "MINE!" before I lick his nose. I love him so much!
Finn shakes with laughter. "Hey, hey, hey—take it easy!"
I keep attacking Finn with wet kisses until the other fairy approaches us. My senses pick up on their ill intentions, and I create a bubble-like shield around us before fire rains over it—no one will hurt my man!
"Impressive!" the other fairy exclaims. "Where the hell did you find that dog? I want one! She is crazy powerful!"
"Dog?" Finn's expression turns severe, and I relax in his arms when he stands up—I'm a lapdog at this point, but I don't care. He is holding me like his prized possession, and it seems my wolf is crazy about him. "Maya is a werewolf—surely you can tell from her scent, and yet you attacked her—give me one reason not to chop your head off."
"Take it easy, Finn!" The fairy is holding up her hands in surrender, and I can detect her fear from a mile away. She is afraid of Finn. "I'm not here to pick a fight with you. I want you to join me and other fairies. Please consider helping your kind in the upcoming war. The man Arvin, who is leading the humans, has already taken too many fairy lives."
Finn laughs, then glances down at me. "Maya, let me introduce you to the perfect presentation of my people—this is Blake, and she thinks I'm stupid. What she is saying is only half the truth. Sure, she wants me to protect the other fairies from Arvin, but she also wants to enter through the portal to get a free buffet of humans to eat."
Blake shows her teeth, finally revealing her true colors. "You're a fucking weakling mentally! I don't understand why you're so against our plan! You're the strongest fairy alive—you should help us conquer the human realm with ease!"
"My best friends are humans," Finn says as he scratches me behind my ear. He is gentle with me but gives Blake a frosty glare, so very unlike his usual charming expressions. "And if you get anywhere close to that damn portal, then I won't hesitate to kill you—do you understand?"
I growl in approval and the other fairy visibly gulps before taking off with lightning speed. She throws himself into the sky, and Finn takes a deep breath before smiling at me in wonder.
"Aren't you a little big to be a werewolf?"
I wag my tail in response, and Finn laughs in entertainment. He doesn't look that scary in his fairy form. But perhaps I will change my opinion once I shift back into a tiny human?
Finn's lips turn into a teasing smile. "Let me guess: you don't know how to return to your human form?"
I give him a guilty, wolfish grin in response. It seems I'm stuck in this form for a while—not that it bothers me. It's exhilarating being an overgrown dog without worries, and Finn doesn't seem hesitant about touching me in this form. Life is great.
