Dear Enemy, You're My Mate

Chapter 110 **

Chapter 110 **

Maya

The sky is cloudy, and rain is patting against the window as my new pack members, and I drive through a sleepy village. I'm tired of the view, and my head won't stop spinning and thinking about the upcoming fight taking place tomorrow.

I'm about to challenge my sister, Lily.

I shudder at the thought, knowing it won't be easy to win against her since she isn't a weakling.

My sister controls the darkness while the light listens to my command—we are opposites of each other, yet I intend to win.

Or more like I have to win.

Lily is keeping everyone a prisoner. She has turned the Winterbite pack into something not to be proud of—the female alpha doesn't allow anyone to have a different opinion, and if you stand up against her, she will throw you to the sharks.

She isn't a good alpha.

'You will be a better one,' Lumi says in a calm tone. 'Hard times breed strong women, and you've gone through hell and survived—the storm has shaped you, and the position of alpha will soon be yours.'

Pride swells inside my chest. 'Thank you for your support, Lumi.'

I keep looking outside of the window until I hear Elijah shifting in his seat, probably about to share his opinions once more.

"So are we just going to drive up to her house and have Maya challenge her into a duel in their backyard?" Elijah asks, sneering at his words as if he doesn't fancy the idea. "Does everyone inside this car except me have a death wish or something?"

Finn, for some reason, is driving my car. I had no idea the fairy knew how to maneuver a vehicle, but it doesn't matter. I'm in no state to take the wheel, and Elijah and Kyra aren't worse options than Finn.

Kyra has only been in the human realm for a couple of days, and Elijah is a vampire—he travels with the speed of lightning and doesn't need any car to get around.

"Do you have a better idea?" Finn asks. "Because by all means, share it with us then—we are all here to listen."

I pick up on the irritation in his tone. He is still not talking with me after our argument yesterday, and my heart squeezes in pain when our eyes meet in the rearview mirror. I can tell from the first glance that he is hurting.

Yesterday he said, "What if I wake up and find your lifeless body next to mine?" which tore a hole through my heart.

It makes sense that Finn is trying to rush into things with me because our time is limited in his eyes.

What are my few years to his almost forever?

I need to solve things with him after this battle is over. I've spent too much time trying to bottle up my emotions and ignore them when I should have been holding him.

"I don't have a better idea..." Elijah grumbles, running his hand over his face in the act of stress. "But Lily will see us from a mile away when we travel inside this dangerous and hideous metal thing."

Finn sighs. "It's called a car—you should learn how to drive one."

"Never," Elijah appears disgusted. There are wrinkles on his nose. "I call it a suicide trap, and I would never trust it to take me to the places I want. Human inventions are so unpredictable."

"And yet you never question their ability to create wine."

Elijah narrows his eyes. "Yes, I'm not a savage like you, who drinks that yellow piss every Friday."

Finn's jaw is ticking. "And that is what you call a beer."

"Piss." Elijah corrects.

Kyra giggles, and I'm having difficulty resisting the urge to smile. Elijah and Finn are hilarious whenever they argue.

Finn loves technology even if he is a fairy, while Elijah likes the old, classical ways—if he could decide our means of travel, we would probably be in a horse carriage by now.

Oh, and I almost forgot—he would never drink a beer because he claims the taste has changed over the years. Wine is a far more refined option, according to Elijah's tastebuds.

"Whatever," Finn slowly exhales to calm himself. It's a good idea since the vein in his forehead looks about ready to rupture. "The point here is that Lily is keeping everyone a prisoner in her basement, so we better get there as fast as possible, which is by car."

"I agree," I say, smiling when Finn glances at me again. He doesn't smile back, yet I'm happy to have gained his attention. I continue talking, feeling brave in his presence. "It doesn't matter if Lily will see us coming since she needs to duel me to get the proper position of alpha. She will let us pass, and in fact, I think she is waiting for us."

Elijah grumbles, crossing his arms over his chest like a grumpy child who didn't get to pick a new toy from the store.

"Fine." The vampire mutters. "We will drive up to her front yard, and while we are at it, let's ask for some tea and cookies—Lily might serve us those herself with a big smile."

Kyra snorts. "You're so grumpy!"

"Well, yes!" Elijah is frowning. "Our plan is complete and utter suicide—"

"According to you, driving a car is also considered suicide." Finn interrupts and grins wickedly with his white teeth showing. "Which is funny since I assumed you were immortal like the rest of your kind."

I can no longer contain my laughter and explode. Tears fly to the right and left, and soon, Kyra joins in on the great fun, and then we wobble like bowling pins in our seats.

Elijah's face pales. "Women are such scary creatures..."

Finn snorts. "Agreed," his eyes meet mine, and this time, his lips corner curls slightly up. "But I don't know what I would do without them, especially the weird girls—I love those."

My face cracks up further, and I return his warm smile. I'm not sure what to say, but my heart fills with joy knowing Finn is no longer mad at me. There might be a huge battle coming up, but it feels like I can achieve anything right now.

Lily better be prepared because I play to win.
