Cyberpunk: Ultimate Cyborg System

Chapter 634: Looking for a Show.

Chapter 634: Looking for a Show.

Wolf was confused, asking himself how it got to this. Loud cheers blasted him from all sides, its source hidden from his sight by the circle of light raining on him from above. He could see the border of a cage he stood in. Due to the nature of his ability, sometimes he can’t help but feel closer to being a beast than he was a human. You would think the cage would enhance that feeling, but as he looked at the corner, Wolf somehow got the impression that he was nothing more than prey trapped with the real monster.

"If you’re looking for a rematch, then you’ll get a rematch."

Getting up, the red haired walked toward the balcony then jumped. A wave of panic hit the four heroes, causing them to forget that he was a Level 4 Ascended Cyborg. Rushing over, they looked down an saw the young gang boss walking to the center of the stage. The music went off, then the lights followed. A single spotlight came on, drawing the sights of the confused crowd to the it.

"A while back, before I took over this place, my predecessor had a goal." The Cyberpunk said. "He didn’t want this place to be nothing more than bar or a nightclub. His idea of a good time was entirely different from us."

A wave of chuckles spread through the crowd.

"What I he doing?" Beatrice asked.

"Nothing good." Kafka replied.

The red haired youth went on, and with each word he spoke, the fears the heroes had became even more real.

"I never had any interest in his plans until a couple of days ago. You see, I also enjoy a good fight from time to time, so I decided to give it a try. We planned the opening event for a couple of weeks from now, but..." Pausing, he raised his right hand and snapped his finger. Several screens manifested around the club, all of them displaying the same face. "My first challenger arrived early, so we’re moving it to tonight!"

The crowd seemed to lose their minds, the cheers they let out shaking the entire building. Still in a daze, Wolf began to hear his hero name called from the lower floor. Even with his head covered, people still recognized him in no time.

"This... isn’t how I expected things to go..." Kafka said.

"This is bad, isn’t it?" Merry turned to look at their petite companion. "What are we going to do, Leader?"

"I told you we shouldn’t have come." Beatrice held a hand to her forehead. "I can already see the paperwork..."

In just a few minutes, the doors to the underground level were opened, and the crowd flooded into it, pushing each other as they tried to secure one of the spectator seats. When he first saw the hexagonal arena, Wolf felt as if he fell for a trap that had been set a long time ago. This wasn’t what he had in mind when the idea of a rematch occurred to him. Unfortunately, there is no backing down now.

"The rules are simple," His red haired opponent said. "Stay inside the cage, and don’t use any abilities that might get beyond its boundaries. Got it?"

He had changed out of his suit and was now wearing a pair of knee length shorts and a tanktop. It felt as if he was purposefully showing off his bionics. Wolf had read about him getting new legs in the report they received, but seeing them with his own eyes, he couldn’t help being intimidated.

"There is no point if we went that far." He replied. "It’s your martial arts that I want to test, not your powers."

Wolf had used the watch on his wrist to change his outfit. He had wore his work uniform underneath just in case, so the clothes on top of it were simple projections that can easily be changed.

"Good," The Cyberpunk said. "Let’s get started, then."

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to the first ever Red Oni Cage!!!" A deep voice boomed through the underground level, raising the crowd’s volume. "We are going for a big launch tonight! In one corner we have the clubs owner and leader of the Red Demons, the Cyberpunk himself, Dante Sokolov!"

Shaking his hear, the man in question finished stretching and took a fighting stance.

"Don’t let the cute dog ears trick you, because he’s one of the strongest heroes in our city, and fighter brave enough to come here with a challenge! Ladies, an Gentlemen, I present to you the Werewolf!"

Another round of applause shook the arena, and Wolf couldn’t help but sigh. Clearing his mind, he took a fighting stance as well.

"Cybrgs VS Genomes, the debate has been ongoing for more than a decade, but would it be settled tonight!? Let us all find out!"

TINGGGG

A bell rang, and the two fighters turned into a blur. An instant later, violent wind blasted through the underground level, born from the two clashing at the center.

"The people are looking for a show," the Cyberpunk said. "Let’s keep it down for a while."

Wolf figured as much, which is why he was holding back on his transformation. He thought it would be a problem while going against a high Level 4 opponent, but thankfully the two of them were on the same page.

Breaking the clash, the two backed away an equal distance before lunging once more. Wolf swung his right arm, his sharp nails carving lines through the air. The Cyberpunk seemed to ignore it until the last moment, ducking just as his face was about to be clawed. The green alloy of his right foot passed right before Wolf’s eyes as he jerked his head back to evade. That took away his balance, and before he could reclaim it, a low swipe robbed him of his footing, and he found himself heading straight to the floor.

Spinning around, Wolf caught himself at the last moment then launched himself in the air, landing a few feet away. The spectators exploded, cheering and screaming.
