Chapter 568: The Mechanical Maiden's Choice
Chapter 568: The Mechanical Maiden's Choice
Miaomiao lifted her head vacantly, staring at Lynn's mask.
Along with the fluctuations of the curse, she transformed back into her cat-eared girl form, immediately throwing her arms around Lynn's neck and bursting into tears.
The immense grief made her entire body tremble uncontrollably.
It was a fear rooted deep in her bones.
It made her think once again of the bloody memories in that dark underground, as if each scene was replaying itself before her eyes all over again.
Lynn patted her back, trying his best to soothe her crumbling emotions.
Then he raised his head, his gaze turning serious.
"Miss Puppet, are you still there?"
"I'm here."
The emotionless female voice came from all around.Lynn nodded, then quickly pulled a suitcase out of the System Space, crouched down, and forcefully opened it, his gaze deep as he said:
"Miss Puppet, come back for now. You're a mechanical body too, and if you get infected by that Flesh Plague, the effects would be too severe. When I need your help, I'll call for you again. Is that okay?"
Before him.
Slender toes gently touched the ground.
As the rose-colored ruffled skirt settled, that gothic loli slowly descended in front of him, quietly watching him.
And she could tell that Lynn had lost his usual flippant, carefree attitude. Clearly, what had happened to Miaomiao had forced him to become serious.
"Alright."
A few seconds later, Lynn quickly closed the suitcase and stored it back into the System Space.
Then he turned around, raised his head, and gazed out at the battlefield. His fingers lightly tapped his temple, and his consciousness instantly appeared within Sir Aiwen's Psychic Space.
"Sir Aiwen, I have an idea. It might be risky, but if it works, it could potentially cripple the enemy's Leviathan in one fell swoop and tilt the balance of the war in our favor."
...
Meanwhile.
On the other side of the battlefield.
With a flash of a fold-jump's light, Silver Fantasy's body, now covered in hideous flesh, crashed heavily to the ground.
"Father..."
Silver Fantasy struggled to support herself, forcefully resisting the effects of the Flesh Plague. Countless bloody noise spots appeared across her visual sensor screen.
But it was clear that the growth of flesh on her body was extremely slow, nowhere near comparable to the other mechanical bodies.
"Was it you... who teleported me out?"
She gritted her teeth, struggling painfully against the invasion of the flesh.
Soon, the God of All Machines' indifferent voice reached her ears.
"I asked the Cyber Ascender to find you. Under the influence of that Flesh Plague, I've lost contact with all consciousness except yours."
Silver Fantasy struggled to lift her head, looking at the three silent hives now wrapped in flesh, at the mechanical bodies one after another being suppressed within that flesh.
She also understood the dire situation at hand.
"That plague isn't an ordinary one. It contains fluctuations of reality warping. It was clearly designed specifically as a weapon against us."
"But not all metal can be corrupted. The Dead Star Crystal that makes up your body has slowed this transformation. That's why you can still move."
Silver Fantasy raised her head and asked, "What about the other Dead Star units?"
"You are the only one controlling a single unit. They are not. The moment they were infected with the plague, their consciousness was split into dozens of parts, locked within different units. Even if I reestablish contact, they won't be able to move."
Silver Fantasy knelt on one knee, pounding her chest with a single fist, and bowed her head. "Father, what do you need me to do?"
The indifferent voice paused for a few seconds.
"By now, you should be able to see the situation clearly. As long as the effects of that plague aren't eliminated, our conventional combat power has no room to operate. It's like cutting off one of my arms. But if it were just this, relying on my main body alone, I wouldn't be afraid."
"But the bad news is..."
He fell silent.
Silver Fantasy suddenly thought of something, hesitating as she said, "The wound on your neck..."
The God of All Machines' voice clearly paused for several seconds, then came through heavily. "This is why I didn't want you to have any more contact with that human. His origins are mysterious, seemingly deeply connected to some kind of abnormal existence that shouldn't belong in this world. Father won't hide this from you."
"That strike didn't just injure my body; it also touched my foundation."
At these words, Silver Fantasy's entire body trembled.
The God of All Machines' voice carried no fluctuation as it continued.
"One diminishes while the other grows. If it were only me, Father would inevitably lose. Although the Cyber Ascender stands on our side, his state is also very delicate. Even if we can hold the advantage, if we let them drag this out any longer, our advantage will soon be neutralized."
Silver Fantasy immediately asked, "What can I do?"
The God of All Machines said coldly, "A mission. An extremely dangerous mission. The Cyber Ascender just proposed a crazy plan. If it succeeds, the situation will turn around immediately. But likewise, if it fails, the participants will have no chance of survival."
Silver Fantasy clenched her fists firmly, waiting for her father's next words.
"What's the plan?"
The God of All Machines said heavily, "He can use his Psychic Energy to interfere with parts of reality, teleporting some organisms directly inside that Leviathan. Then they can form a small team to carry out a decapitation strike against that Plague Doctor from within."
"He is the mastermind behind this plague and the actual controller of that Leviathan. But his strength is very weak. So if we kill him, the Flesh Leviathan will be nothing to fear. And even if we can't, just destroying the Flesh Plague stored inside the Leviathan would be a huge help to us."
A weak organism only at the Death-Omen Tier.
Yet it held Root-level combat power and the weapon that restrained their lifeline.
Silver Fantasy didn't hesitate for a moment. Blue light flooded her eyes as she said with murderous intent:
"Father, leave this mission to me. I will personally kill that Plague Doctor. I have no good feelings toward that kind of creature's profession."
The God of All Machines was silent for a moment, then said deeply:
"But this is another point I need to tell you. If you fail, you will die. Even if you encounter a fatal crisis, we cannot provide you with any support. You won't be able to upload your consciousness, nor will you be able to fold-jump. Do you know what that means?"
Silver Fantasy looked up. "Father, before our civilization achieved Mechanical Ascension, our predecessors also couldn't upload consciousness, and they couldn't fold-jump or teleport either. But there were still those who willingly ventured into danger for the continuation of the civilization."
Her meaning was simple and clear.
Even setting aside those past events.
For the mechanical civilization, the overall interest always superseded individual will.
Abandon when it's time to abandon. Sacrifice when it's time to sacrifice. This had always been the code of their civilization. Nothing major.
"Good."
The God of All Machines no longer hesitated.
"But there's one more thing I need you to mentally prepare for. If you can accept it, I'll let you go."
"What is it?" Silver Fantasy raised her head, her gaze firm.
"The one who proposed this plan wasn't the Cyber Ascender. It was that human. And it was also him who asked for a 'badass teammate.' So if you really want to accept this mission, you must promise me that you won't kill him. If that's the case, will you still go?"
Silver Fantasy: "I won't go."
