His hand slowly lifted and covered Ling Chuxia’s. Despite sitting and looking up at her, his gaze still conveyed an oppressive heaviness.

He intently stared at her pale face and began to speak, word by word, "Once your fever subsides, I will naturally leave. But until it does, I will not depart."

As soon as he finished speaking, Che tightened his grip on Ling Chuxia’s hand and abruptly pulled it away. Then, he stood up, placed his hands on her shoulders, and firmly pushed her back down onto the bed.

Ling Chuxia’s eyes were red, and her body struggled ceaselessly. Che, however, showed no impatience. His dark eyes lowered, fixated on her face, his voice deep. "If you truly do not wish to see me, what you should do now is cooperate, not foolishly struggle!"

Ling Chuxia could never have imagined that Che could still utter such words nonchalantly. Every time he appeared, he only brought her pain and suffering. Was she expected to greet him with a smile?

How could she... how could she have fallen for such a man?

She shouldn’t cry, she couldn’t cry, yet she couldn’t stop her eyes from reddening involuntarily, the warmth in her eyes building up, the mist rising and gradually obscuring her vision.

Abruptly, she bowed her head and tightly closed her eyes, struggling to hold back her tears. Tears should be reserved for someone worthy, not for him! She had said she would never shed another tear because of him!

Her hands clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms, that pain stimulating her nerves. She swallowed hard, pushing down the sob in her throat, but when she spoke, her voice still trembled slightly, masked by her icy tone, "So, once my fever subsides, you will leave, vanish from my sight?"

"Once your fever subsides, I will leave," Che replied, his voice flat but his words firm.

"Fine!"

Ling Chuxia emphasized the word, turned her head, and saw the medicine on the bedside table. Without a second thought, she reached out to grab it.

She would take the medicine now, and once her fever subsided, she wouldn’t have to see Che again!

But her hand was caught by Che once more. Ling Chuxia, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, bristled, and glared fiercely at Che, her voice edged with extreme chill, "What? Do I need your permission to even take medicine?"

Che gazed at Ling Chuxia’s cold eyes, saw the undisguised rejection at the bottom of her eyes, and felt the pain in his heart spreading wildly. Yet his handsome face remained as calm and composed as ever, showing no trace of sorrow.

He slowly spoke, his voice even huskier, "You can take the medicine, but eat some porridge to line your stomach first."

While he spoke, Che took the medicine from her hand, covered her with the blanket again, then left the room. Within a minute, he returned, holding a bowl of freshly made porridge.

He sat back down by the bed, one hand holding the porridge, the other spooning it, gently blew on it, then extended it toward Ling Chuxia’s lips.

Ling Chuxia looked at all his actions almost with cold eyes. When his hand reached out to her, she didn’t open her mouth to eat. Instead, she suddenly reached out and snatched the bowl from Che’s other hand.
