Chapter 204: Did She Wanted Me To Mistreat Eliam?
Chapter 204: Did She Wanted Me To Mistreat Eliam?
Claire’s POV
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My breath was stuck in my throat.
The room spun, and my knees gave out completely. Sissy caught me just in time, holding me tight so I wouldn’t crash to the floor. She was crying quietly next to my ear, her hands shaking against my shoulders, but everything felt numb.
All those years, I had mourned my children, thinking they had died, made my heart sink.
My hands went to my stomach. I could still hear the cold voice of the doctor telling me my children were dead. He said they couldn’t save them because the impact of my fall had taken their lives.
Every time I looked at Eliam,I felt a strange pull in my chest. I thought it was just grief of losing my child, and I was taking solace in him. I thought I loved him so much because he was Elijah’s son.
But he wasn’t my nephew. He was my son.
And Lily...
A sob finally tore from my throat. Lily was my baby girl. My daughter, whom I had thought I had lost years ago.
Both of my babies were alive. They had been right here this whole time.
I looked up through tears in my eyes, past Damian, who stood completely frozen and pale against the sofa. My eyes sought out my husband.
Evander looked terrifying.
The shock on his face turned into pure, scary rage. His whole body shook as he slammed his hands on the table to keep from falling. The veins in his neck popped out as he stared into space, completely consumed by what Gloria had done.
But the second he looked at me, shaking, the anger in his eyes turned to pain.
"Evan..." I whispered, my voice breaking. I reached my hands out to him.
Evander’s POV
My hands were still pressed against the table, digging in so hard my nails ached. But I couldn’t feel it, as Caspian’s words still echoed in my ears.
They were alive.
Our twins were alive. The babies Claire had cried for, and the babies I thought I would never be able to look at, were alive.
They didn’t die in that accident. Gloria had stolen them. She took our flesh and blood, gave our son to me as my nephew, and left our little girl to die. Just because she was a girl, and didn’t fit into her plan!
How much lower was she planning to stoop?
She had taken everything away from me, step by step. She watched me break down over every single death around me. And then... she handed me my own child to raise as a nephew?
What was her plan? Was she hoping I’d neglect Eliam and hurt him just as she did to me? Did she want me to give him the same miserable childhood I had, just so she could gloat? Did she want to throw me into even deeper distress when I finally found out the truth—that Eliam was my own son?
A dangerous thought flashed in my mind. I wanted to destroy everything. I wanted to find Gloria and make her pay for every single tear Claire had ever shed.
My jaw ached from clenching it, and my chest heaved as I tried to breathe.
When I heard Claire’s broken voice that pierced through my rage.
I looked down. Claire was reaching out to me, her small hands shaking violently. Her face was completely pale and soaked with tears. She looked so shattered that all my anger instantly turned faded and only pain was left in my eyes.
I didn’t care about Caspian or Damian staring. I didn’t care about Sissy crying.
I reached her in two big steps and dropped to my knees right in front of her. I pulled her out of Sissy’s arms and into my lap, burying her face against my neck. I held her so tight it felt like I might break her, but I couldn’t stop.
"Our babies..." Claire choked out, gripping my shirt tightly. "Eliam... and Lily... they are our babies?"
Hearing her say their names made something inside me snap. Eliam, the boy I raised as my nephew, and Lily, the girl Caspian had been hiding—they were ours.
A heavy sob tore out of my chest. I couldn’t hold it back anymore. My tears finally fell, soaking into her hair as I pressed my face against hers.
"Yes," I choked out, my voice breaking. I squeezed her even tighter, holding her head against me. "They are ours, Claire. I swear to you, they are ours and no one will ever take them from us again."
We stayed there like that for a few minutes, just holding each other. The room was completely quiet except for our heavy breathing. Then, Caspian walked up to us.
"I’m sorry for revealing everything like that," Caspian’s hoarse voice broke the silence. He kept his eyes on the floor. "I wanted to wait. I wanted to give you concrete proof with DNA tests first. But since everything came out today, I will share every single detail I have."
I didn’t answer him right away. I just carefully helped Claire up, keeping her safe in my arms so she wouldn’t fall. She was still shaking against my chest. Across the room, Damian finally let go of the sofa, his face still pale with shock, while Sissy wiped her tears and stepped closer to help support Claire.
Caspian looked at both of us, his eyes turning sad as he thought about the little girl he had been raising.
"About Lily..." Caspian whispered, his voice cracking. "I will talk to her. She already knows I’m not her real father, and she knows I’ve been looking for her parents. I just never imagined it would be you two."
He then further added. "Since Eliam looked like Elijah, I always thought he was his son, but for Lilly, I always had my doubts until recently." He said, looking at Claire.
