Chapter 195: Truth Comes With Consequences

Chapter 195: Truth Comes With Consequences

Claire’s POV

I was still trying to wrap my head around what was happening. Weren’t we supposed to be discussing Sissy and Damian? Then why had the conversation taken such a drastic turn?

At first, I thought about stepping in and asking, but the tension in the room was so thick that I felt like I would be stepping into a battlefield unarmed. So instead, I chose to stay quiet and let the scene unfold.

"I am still waiting, Caspian." Evander’s voice was cold, barely keeping his emotions in check. His eyes were locked onto Caspian as he demanded an answer.

Caspian inhaled sharply, his whole body trembling. "As I said... I wanted to forget it all... But I love him more than anything, even more than my life... How could I possibly forget about him?" His voice cracked, and I saw the tears pooling in his eyes before they finally spilled over.

A heavy silence fell over the room, and I could feel my heartbeat quicken. We all stood frozen, unable to process what we had just heard. Love? Who was he talking about?

I turned my gaze from Evander to Caspian, but their expressions gave me no clues. Something was going on that I had no understanding of, and yet, it was unfolding right before my eyes, making me feel restless.

"Gurl, what the hell is going on? Weren’t we supposed to be talking about me? How did we end up here?" Sissy whispered urgently as she slid next to me, her eyes darting around in confusion.

I let out a small sigh as I shook my head. "I... I have no idea what’s happening either."

I said as I glanced at Damian to get some answers from him, but the stunned look on his face told me he was just as confused as we were. His lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but no words came out. If even he was in shock, then whatever this was, it was far worse than Sissy and Damian’s situation!

The air grew unbearably heavy with tension. My heart pounded as Evander’s cold, sharp voice broke through the silence.

"What did you just say? Who did you say you loved?" His tone sent chills down my spine. "Whom did you say you couldn’t forget?"

Caspian stood there as his face looked pale, his body trembling, but he didn’t back down. "I... I told you already! I was in love with your brother, and I am the person you have been looking for all this time." His voice was firm, but the tears brimming in his eyes finally spilled over, trailing down his cheeks.

I sucked in a sharp breath, my mind struggling to process what I had just heard. What? Caspian... and Evander’s brother?

I glanced at Evander, and for the first time, I saw something flicker in his eyes—pain, anger, disbelief. His whole body was rigid, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

The air felt dangerously charged, like a storm about to break loose. Evander’s piercing gaze locked onto Caspian, his entire body radiating anger.

"So... my brother cheated on my sister-in-law? He betrayed Lexi with you and let her die alone in the cold because of you?" His voice was low, but the venom in it was unmistakable.

Caspian flinched, his sobs growing quieter, but he didn’t say a word. His trembling form and tear-streaked face told me he was already drowning in his own emotions. But Evander wasn’t done. He took a slow, deliberate step forward, his fists tightening by his sides.

I knew that look. He was on the verge of losing control.

"Evan!" I finally gathered my strength and quickly stepped between them, reaching for his arm before things could escalate. My fingers wrapped around his wrist, holding onto him firmly. "Ca... Can you not be so violent? Can’t we just sit and hear what Caspian has to say?" I pleaded, looking up at him, hoping my words would reach past his rage.

His eyes, burning red with fury, flickered toward me. For a moment, he just stared, as if trying to decide whether to listen or shove me aside.

"I... I second that," Damian suddenly spoke up, his voice hesitant yet firm. He looked just as shaken as the rest of us, his brows furrowed in confusion.

Evander didn’t even glance at Damian. His piercing gaze remained locked onto mine, the fire in his eyes dimming just a little. He finally spoke, his voice was sharp and unwavering.

"Talk. Now. Before I change my mind and let my fists do the talking." Evander’s words sent a chill down my spine.

Caspian took a deep breath, tilting his head back as if gathering strength. With a swift motion, he wiped his tears away and squared his shoulders. His voice was steady and unwavering.

"Don’t mistake my tears for guilt," he stated firmly, his gaze locking onto Evander’s. "I am not ashamed, nor will I apologize for loving Elijah. My tears are proof of how deeply I cared for him, not regret."

He took a step forward, his stance unyielding. "If you want to hate me, if you want to break our friendship or even kill me for loving your brother, then go ahead! But don’t you dare call Elijah a cheater when you don’t know the truth!" Caspian’s eyes burned with conviction. "Elijah never betrayed Lexi. You are condemning him without even knowing what really happened!"

"Is that so?" Evander’s grip on my hand tightened as he took a slow, deep breath, his gaze locked onto Caspian. "So, you are telling me that you and my brother were in a relationship... and Lexi knew about it? Is that what you are trying to say?"

Caspian didn’t flinch. Instead, he met Evander’s piercing stare with a steady gaze of his own.

"If you are truly ready to hear the truth, then ask me whatever you want," he said, standing tall. "But be prepared for what comes next. The truth doesn’t just bring answers—it comes with consequences, ones that will change your life."
