Chapter 215 - 170: A Lamb in the Tiger’s Den (Part 2)

Chapter 215 - 170: A Lamb in the Tiger’s Den (Part 2)

She leaned against the wall, a faint, weak curve pulling at the corner of her lips. But that curve was heavy with mockery. "Julian Donovan, is there any point to this? What are you trying to prove?"

His movements on top of her froze instantly. He just leaned over her, staring. Her coldness and indifference made him feel utterly ashamed, and all his physical and emotional urges dissipated.

She could only meet his gaze. She saw the rage in his eyes, so intense it felt like it could burn a hole right through her. And in his pupils, she saw her own reflection: haggard, yet impassive.

It was the ringing of her phone that broke the standoff. Naomi Shaw, as if liberated, straightened her disheveled clothes, pushed him away, and went to answer her phone.

The call was from Sean Donovan, asking if she was feeling any better. She looked at Julian Donovan standing by the door and replied to Sean with a gentle smile, "My stomach is much better. Thank you for getting me food so quickly last night!"

Julian Donovan’s expression was one of despair and pain. She averted her gaze, no longer looking at him, but continued speaking to Sean Donovan, "Oh, right, Sean. I’ve made up my mind about being your private nurse. I’ve already quit my job, so I can start anytime!"

’This was her only chance to get close to Sean Donovan. If she didn’t take it, she might never get another one.’

Sean Donovan was delighted to hear this, his voice filled with laughter. "In that case, pack your things. I’ll have a driver come pick you up!"

"Okay..."

After agreeing, she hung up, her hand trembling slightly. Being Sean Donovan’s private nurse meant she would have to live in his house to be available to care for him at all times.

’But she also knew what she might face once she moved into Sean Donovan’s house. His intentions were already obvious: he wanted her back by his side. If he were to do something to her, she would be completely powerless to resist...’ Lost in her thoughts, she was jolted back to reality by Julian Donovan’s voice from the doorway. There was no anger or questioning, only a pool of dead, quiet despair. "Naomi Shaw, from now on, even if you beg me to come back, I will never forgive you!"

With that, he opened the door, turned, and left without a hint of hesitation. Julian Donovan’s heart was truly in despair. He knew better than anyone what it meant for her to become Sean Donovan’s private nurse.

He couldn’t understand her actions. The only explanation was that she truly didn’t love him, that she truly hated him, and that was why she was hurting him like this.

Naomi Shaw watched his back disappear behind the door, his final, resolute words echoing in her ears. Then, she sank to the floor and broke down, sobbing uncontrollably.

’Suddenly, she didn’t know if what she was doing was right or wrong. He said he would never forgive her. If she completed her mission for the police but lost him in the process, what was the point of sacrificing everything?’

「An opulent and luxurious living room.」

After watching Sean Donovan hang up the phone, a bodyguard protested angrily, "Boss, how can you let that woman move in here? It’s too dangerous! What if she’s an undercover cop? The police are already watching us so closely!"

The boss had always been cautious; otherwise, the police wouldn’t have failed to find any weaknesses for so many years. The Donovan Residence was also one of their drug labs, a location they wouldn’t activate unless absolutely necessary. Their main production sites were in several small towns in the south, but with the police watching them so closely lately, they couldn’t get out and were forced to use this place.

Now the boss was bringing that woman in. If she discovered anything, wouldn’t they all be completely wiped out?

Sean Donovan picked up a wine glass from the table, swirling it as he walked to the window. A faint smile touched his lips. "To die at the hands of the one you love... I suppose that’s a death with no regrets. Haha..."

After saying this, he suddenly burst into laughter.

The bodyguard was stunned by his words. "Boss, you’ve gone mad!"

’For a woman, the boss was actually thinking about dying. If that wasn’t madness, what was?’

The bodyguard didn’t know that some people, despite their meticulous minds and complex thoughts, were also extremely stubborn and paranoid. Once they set their sights on something or someone, they would stop at nothing to obtain it. If they failed, they would descend into a pathological obsession.

To Sean Donovan, Naomi Shaw was the one who made him paranoid. This was especially true because she was the woman of the man he hated, which only further inflamed his possessiveness over her.

"Get out!"

Sean Donovan stopped laughing and sharply ordered the bodyguard out. A strange light flickered in his eyes. ’All that matters is that she stays by my side. All that matters is that she’s separated from Julian Donovan. Her intentions don’t matter, and whether she loves me or not doesn’t matter.’

He knew he was being somewhat fanatical, but he couldn’t control himself.

Naomi Shaw never imagined the Donovan Residence would be so magnificent. In her three years in the city, she had only heard of the Donovan Residence but had never been there. Even when she and Sean Donovan had been so intimate, he had never brought her to the estate. Moreover, back then, Charles Donovan—who had opposed her relationship with Sean—was still alive and living at the Donovan Residence, making it even less likely she would ever have had the chance to visit.

The Donovan Residence was situated by the sea, a sprawling estate belonging to the Donovan Family that stretched for several kilometers along the coastline. It was concealed by lush, tall trees, making it both hidden and discreet.

From the main gate, it took over twenty minutes of driving just to reach the main house. Along the way, they passed numerous scattered buildings. Her mouth hung open in astonishment, but she didn’t forget her mission. Amid her shock, she carefully surveyed the layout of the entire estate.

A bodyguard with a hostile expression led her inside. The elegant sound of a piano drifted from the room. She knew that Sean Donovan enjoyed playing the piano. In fact, it was Sean who had first introduced Joy to music. ’Thinking about it, she really should be grateful to him. After all, for those three years, he had given her meticulous care and attention.’

Just as she entered, Sean Donovan finished playing a piece. Dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, he rose from the black and white keys of the piano. He looked clean and bright, handsome and refined. ’And yet, this was the man who was a major drug lord wanted by Interpol.’ A chill ran down her spine at the thought.

While she was still dazed, Sean Donovan walked up to her, gently took her hand, and pressed a kiss to it. "Anna, you’re here!"

Naomi Shaw’s hand trembled in his grasp. She calmly pulled it away, smiled, and changed the subject. "That piece you were just playing, ’Castle in the Sky,’ was beautiful..."
