Chapter 214 - 170: A Lamb Enters the Tiger’s Mouth

Chapter 214 - 170: A Lamb Enters the Tiger’s Mouth

The first thing she did when she got home was throw the food into the trash can. Then, ignoring the pain in her stomach, she cooked a bowl of noodles for herself. She sat there, eating and crying, her mind replaying the moment she’d thrown the file at him. ’He must be in agony. He must hate my guts. He must have given up on me. He’ll... he’ll never love me again, will he?’

On top of that, she missed her two children desperately, leaving her completely dazed. After forcing down a few bites, she lay down on the sofa, still fully clothed. She picked up her phone and scrolled through the photos: pictures of her two children, of the two of them, and of their family of four.

She drifted off into a hazy sleep. If it weren’t for a call from the police officer, Ivan Warren, she might have slept on the sofa until dawn. Ivan Warren was calling to ask about what had happened that day. He had been watching from the shadows and had seen her get into Sean Donovan’s car.

She truthfully recounted the recent developments to Ivan Warren. She could hear the delight in his voice. "Miss Shaw, I didn’t expect things to go so smoothly. As long as you can get close to Sean Donovan, our odds of success will increase significantly!"

She remained silent. Ivan Warren instructed her further, "Once you’re by his side, pay close attention to his surroundings. Sean Donovan hasn’t left Wincastle for some time, but the drug flow from the south hasn’t decreased at all. So, we suspect he has a production site right here in Wincastle!"

A chill ran down her spine as she listened. ’Sean Donovan... he’s truly on a path to destruction.’

The next day when she woke up, her head felt heavy—the tell-tale sign of a cold. She had probably caught a chill from lying on the sofa for so long last night. Just as she was about to push herself up, she remembered her decision to no longer work by his side, and she lay back down. Lacking the courage to call him and tell him she was resigning, she called the hospital’s human resources department instead.

The moment HR heard she wanted to resign, they panicked and told her to talk to Julian Donovan herself. Many people at the hospital knew she and Julian Donovan had been on bad terms recently. She paid them no mind, simply stating her intention to resign before hanging up. After a moment’s thought, she turned off her phone, lay back down, and went back to sleep.

She slept until late in the morning, when she was startled by a furious pounding on her door. The sound was laced with rage. A sense of dread welled up inside her. Throwing on a robe, she went to the door. Sure enough, it was him outside, his face cold as he hammered on it. "Open the door!"

She flinched. His furious voice rang out again. "I know you’re in there. Don’t make me wake up the whole neighborhood!"

She knew his temper, so even though she lacked the courage to face him, she still opened the door. He stormed in, bringing a gust of cold air and an aura of pure hostility with him. After slamming the door shut, he immediately pinned her against the wall in the entryway.

Her body was already weak. Pinned by his strength, she was completely unable to move. She asked uneasily, "Wh-what are you going to do?"

’He stormed in here so aggressively... Is he going to strangle me?’

’If he really were to strangle me, that would be fine too. I can’t endure this torment any longer. To die at the hands of the man I love most... I would have no regrets.’

Julian Donovan let out a cold laugh. "You want to abandon me, don’t you? Then let’s see if your body can truly abandon me!"

He had been so hurt by her yesterday that the thought of giving up had actually crossed his mind, but after sobering up, he just couldn’t let go. He’d assumed her behavior was just a momentary tantrum. But today, when someone from HR timidly told him of her intention to resign, he lost control all over again and came straight here.

In truth, he didn’t even know why he had come. She had been so absolute in her rejection. He had no idea what he would say or do; those words had just slipped out, uncontrolled by reason.

Naomi Shaw was terrified by his words. She raised her hands to shove him hard. "Julian Donovan, you’re a maniac... Mmph—"

Before she could finish, his lips came crashing down on hers, biting down hard. She winced in pain, but he paid her no mind, pressing her against the wall and doing exactly as he pleased.

For Julian Donovan now, perhaps this was the only way he could prove she still belonged to him.

His hand tore open her nightgown, his cool palm sliding against her skin and sending shivers through her entire body. She struggled, pushing against him. "I have a cold..."

At a time like this, she was in no mood to make love with him.

But he simply ripped off her clothes, forcibly lifted her up, and set her down on the low cabinet in the entryway. His expression was demonic. "Then this will be a good way to sweat it out!"
