Chapter 282 - 14: Cleanup
Chapter 282 - 14: Cleanup
Wubei’s urgent voice sounded in Chen Chuan’s ear. "They’re all coming for you."
On Chen Chuan’s Realm Token, the building’s floor plan showed figures emerging from their rooms. Several were rushing quickly toward his position.
They were fast. As he turned and walked out, the sound of chaotic footsteps echoed from outside. The moment he reached the corridor, just before entering the main hall, a barrage of Smoke Bombs and neuroparalytic grenades were tossed his way.
Chen Chuan glanced over, instantly merging with his Second Self. He charged forward, creating a powerful gust of wind that swept the neuroparalytic grenades and Smoke Bombs back the way they came before they could even hit the ground.
Out in the hall, his eyes swept over six men fanned out across the corridor, each raising their guns to aim at him. With a flick of his wrist, his blade flashed a few times as he darted past them.
"BOOM BOOM BOOM..."
The Smoke Bombs and paralytic grenades finally landed. Before the men could react, they were engulfed in a series of explosions and a cloud of smoke.
Wubei saw the Domain signals in that area flicker. Then, all the Life Domains in the corridor hall attenuated at once, before vanishing completely. He couldn’t help but shudder, an expression of utter shock on his face.
After being stunned for a moment, he snapped out of it and excitedly transmitted the Biological Domain signals of the remaining enemies to Chen Chuan’s Realm Token.
Chen Chuan had now reached the fifth floor. A Resonator there was constantly trying to interfere with and disrupt his Realm Token. Although Wubei blocked all the attempts, the light on his Realm Token kept flickering, indicating he was under attack.
A guard was stationed here. He immediately drew his gun upon seeing Chen Chuan.
Chen Chuan’s gaze was calm and deep. ’As expected of Central City,’ he thought. ’It seems like everyone carries a gun. If they aren’t Wuyi Students, they can’t possibly have a Weapon Permit, which means this must be a long-term authorization.’
With a twist of his wrist, his blade flashed once. The two men, who wore armor made of Implants, were instantly decapitated and fell at the doorway.
He walked inside, passing through a spacious and luxurious main hall before arriving at a tightly locked door. His Realm Token indicated that the source of the attack was here. He reached out, grabbed the doorknob, and pushed it open, but he didn’t enter immediately. A series of gunshots instantly rang out from within.
He stood patiently, waiting. The moment the gunfire ceased, he stepped out in front of the doorway and flicked a small stone. With a sharp CRACK, the Resonator’s head exploded.
He didn’t spare the body a second glance, simply closing the door with a natural motion before walking out calmly, Snow Monarch Blade in hand.
By this time, the security team that had been patrolling downstairs was alerted and stormed into the building. One squad guarded the elevators while another charged up the stairs.
However, the Resonator supporting them had been eliminated by Chen Chuan, so Wubei was now in control. He secretly altered Chen Chuan’s position on their displays.
As a result, while they were still charging upstairs, Chen Chuan—who was supposed to be on the fourth floor according to their displays—suddenly appeared before them. By the time they saw each other, they were less than three meters apart.
The security captain at the front was startled, but the company’s long and rigorous training allowed him to react instantly. He didn’t use his gun; instead, he abandoned his center of gravity and threw all his strength into a ramming charge at Chen Chuan.
In his mind, the combined weight of his body and gear would be enough to knock the man off balance! Then, his teammates providing backup would rush forward to help restrain him or blow his head off with their pistols at close range.
Chen Chuan’s expression was perfectly calm. He raised a hand and casually swatted him aside.
With a BOOM, the security captain—over two meters tall and weighing more than two hundred kilograms—was brushed aside like a stuffed toy and slammed into the wall. The masonry cracked, forming a spiderweb of fissures as his entire body sank into it.
He flicked the flat of his blade at the next security guard rushing up, sending him flying. The man slammed into the wall and bounced back, blocking the path of those behind him and causing immediate chaos.
Chen Chuan then lowered his center of gravity slightly and charged. He plowed straight through the group of men. In that instant, it was as if they’d been hit by a speeding vehicle on a highway. The clustered men were sent scattering, flying into the surrounding walls and ceiling.
THUD.
Chen Chuan came to a halt, the tiles beneath his feet cracking with a KAKA sound. Only then did the security guards begin to peel off the walls and ceiling, falling to the ground with a series of heavy thuds.
Meanwhile, the guards downstairs, deceived by Wubei’s false information, were still charging up. One of them reached the stairwell landing, spotted Chen Chuan, and immediately drew his gun.
But before he could fire, a flash of light—the tip of the Snow Monarch Blade—was pressed into the hollow of his shoulder. A hand reached out and knocked his gun away. With the blade’s tip pushing him forward, Chen Chuan forced him down the stairs. The other security personnel scattered backward.
Once they reached the wall at the turn in the staircase, Chen Chuan swung his blade, and the man’s head flew off. In that same instant, just as he completed the motion...
WHOOSH! Another guard leaped toward him, attempting to tackle him. But while still in mid-air, Chen Chuan’s hand shot out and snatched him by the collar with a SNAP, stopping him dead. The man’s feet dangled in the air for a moment.
Then, with a single flick of his wrist, Chen Chuan threw him against the stairwell’s retaining wall. Amidst the CRUMBLING of brick and stone, the man collapsed, motionless.
After dealing with those two, Chen Chuan walked down the stairs step by step. Not a single remaining security guard dared to approach, merely aiming their guns at him with extreme tension as they watched him leave.
Wubei’s adrenaline surged as he watched. The security team hired by the Golden Shrimp Company to protect its assets was not weak; it included many First and Second Limit Fighters. Even so, this team couldn’t even slow Chen Chuan down.
Chen Chuan was now on the second floor. His gaze swept across the area and landed on a man in a baseball cap with a vicious expression.
He remembered that face. This was the man who had actually killed Xiaoman and Chong Dage. The moment the man saw Chen Chuan, his pupils contracted. He took a few slow steps back, then turned and ran without hesitation.
Chen Chuan stood still. He drew the Martial Halberd from his coat and fired several shots. The man’s legs were instantly shattered, and he involuntarily collapsed to his knees. But he immediately used his hands to brace himself against a nearby wall, slowly pushing himself up, still trying to drag himself away.
Chen Chuan walked over slowly. He raised his hand and gently patted the top of the man’s head. A soft, dense KAKA sound emanated from the man’s entire body.
A surge of Power had permeated his body, shattering every bone from his skull to his spine in an instant. The man slumped like a boneless heap of clay. Yet somehow, he wasn’t dead. His flesh sagged, his body collapsed, and even his face and head lost their shape.
At that moment, Wubei’s urgent voice came through again. "Brother Chen, the core members of the Golden Shrimp Team have been notified and are heading your way. Maybe you should leave first?"
Chen Chuan said, "No need. I’ll wait for them."
Wubei grew even more excited. "Alright! Let me figure something out. We can’t let them know what’s really happening."
After saying that, he immediately accessed the company’s Boundary Point, sifted through routine communications to identify who had contact with the outside teams, and used their Realm Tokens to broadcast several pieces of false information.
Meanwhile, on a highway not far from the Golden Shrimp Tower, a sleek, name-brand car with a carved shell design sped along, flanked by several security vehicles.
Jing Li, the general captain of the Golden Shrimp Team, was on his way to the company.
Since the new year’s holiday wasn’t over yet, only a skeleton crew and the security team were at the team’s headquarters. The team’s elites were nearly all with him.
When he heard the company headquarters was under attack, his expression turned sharp. But he remained cautious and instructed the Resonator accompanying him.
"Find out who they are."
The Resonator soon reported back. "Got it. It’s a few students from some unknown martial arts hall. One of their friends was killed by our people earlier."
All of this false information had been prepared by Wubei while Chen Chuan and Old Qi were on their way to the Golden Shrimp Tower. It was now perfect for misleading them. This was the advantage of fighting a prepared battle.
Spurred on by Chen Chuan’s actions, Wubei felt like he was in peak condition. Every cell in his body was buzzing with excitement. He could pull off any operation and was cracking his knuckles, ready for a showdown with the enemy’s Resonator at any moment.
Jing Li asked, "Are you sure?"
"Confirmed. They seem to have a Resonator of their own, which is why the messages from inside the building were delayed. His skill level is nothing special, though."
About ten minutes later, Jing Li’s convoy arrived at the base of the tower. Besides them, other company personnel who had heard the news also rushed over, with more than a dozen vehicles converging on the location.
The vehicles stopped. With the sound of doors opening, Jing Li and the elite core of the Golden Shrimp Team all stepped out.
There were sixteen of them, each wearing an Anti-stabbing Suit and equipped with military-grade Implants. Every single one held a submachine gun. All the money Jing Li had earned over the years had been invested in these people.
As long as he had them, any other members who died could be replaced.
Jing Li looked toward the first-floor lobby, about to order his men inside. Just then, a figure appeared there. Amidst the flickering lights, the shape resolved from a blur into perfect clarity: a young man in a trench coat and scarf, carrying a Long Blade, was walking slowly out of the building.
Seeing him, Jing Li ordered, "Open fire!"
Every team member raised their gun without hesitation and, standing in the plaza, pulled the trigger, aiming at the main entrance.
"BANG BANG BANG BANG..." Countless gunshots echoed out from the plaza.
Chen Chuan didn’t dodge. He simply raised his arm to shield himself and stood his ground. The bullets that hit him all ricocheted off and fell to the ground.
After the barrage of gunfire finally subsided, he slowly lowered his arm. From within his protective glove, a cascade of bullet slugs tumbled out, clattering and bouncing on the pavement tiles.
"That’s at least Third Level Protective Clothing..."
Jing Li’s expression changed. ’Something’s wrong!’
