Chapter 250: Don’t Leave Me
Chapter 250: Don’t Leave Me
She leaned forward slightly, her voice gentle yet encouraging.
"Who knows, you might be even more capable than me in the future."
Then, she raised her hand and gently patted Fang Hui’s shoulder.
"Go for it. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. If anything really happens, I’ll be out front to take the blame. Even if the sky falls, it won’t be on you to hold it up alone."
Fang Hui raised her head, her eyes gradually brightening.
Her previously slumped shoulders straightened.
"Okay! Dean Song, I accept!"
"My abilities may be limited, but as long as you trust me, I’ll give it my absolute all to manage this hospital well. I will never let you down!"
She paused, her tone sincere.
"However, if you ever feel I’m not handling something properly, or if I make a fundamental mistake, you must tell me immediately. I will correct it at once, without delay and without making excuses!"
’Since Dean Song trusts her so much, she couldn’t back down. She absolutely couldn’t betray such heavy expectations!’
’I’ll give it everything I’ve got!’
Song Qingya looked at the bright-eyed nurse before her, the smile on her lips deepening.
"Good. I believe in you. You’re capable of far more than you imagine."
She suddenly thought of something else, and her tone became exceptionally gentle.
"Oh, right. When I go into labor, I want you to be by my side. I’ll feel more at ease with you there."
’After all, Fang Hui was a professional nurse—experienced and meticulous.’
’Most importantly, she was someone Song Qingya truly trusted.’
’Things could get complicated and unpredictable in and around the delivery room.’
’Having Fang Hui there would not only ensure a quick response to any emergencies but also put her mind at ease.’
’That extra bit of professionalism and trust would bring an extra sense of security.’
The moment Fang Hui heard this, her eyes lit up. She agreed without a second thought. "Don’t you worry, Dean Song! I won’t leave your side for a second! If anyone tries to cause trouble while you’re vulnerable, they’ll have to go through me first!"
Song Qingya was amused by Fang Hui’s fierce protectiveness, and the corners of her mouth curled up involuntarily.
"Oh, you. What am I, some priceless treasure you have to guard? I’m not a three-year-old. It’s not like someone’s going to kidnap me."
Her tone was gentle, with a hint of teasing.
"But hearing you say that does make me feel much more at ease."
’This girl... She was a bit silly, and sometimes so single-minded it was exasperating.’
’But it was precisely that stubborn nature that was the most reassuring.’
Fang Hui readily agreed, her voice rising with enthusiasm.
"Of course! Your business is my business, Dean Song!"
Seeing her so enthusiastic, Song Qingya’s mood lightened considerably as well.
The subsequent awards ceremony went off without a hitch.
Sunlight streamed into the venue, illuminating everyone’s faces.
And just as she’d promised, Fang Hui never left Song Qingya’s side.
Fei Jin had just finished up the last of his work.
Without even taking a moment to straighten his jacket, he rushed back.
The moment he saw Song Qingya, a wave of anxiety washed over him.
He approached cautiously, as if she were made of glass.
He asked softly if she was feeling unwell and repeatedly checked whether she had eaten.
He would even stand and wait outside the door whenever Song Qingya went to the restroom.
Under Fei Jin’s meticulous care, the days passed one by one.
「Several months passed in a flash.」
Spring turned to autumn. Outside the window, the sycamore leaves turned from green to yellow, then drifted down to cover the ground.
Song Qingya’s belly grew bigger and bigger.
She had to support herself against the wall when she walked, and her breathing was much more labored than before.
Finally, the day of the birth arrived...
The night before her due date, a doctor came to perform a special check-up.
Everything was normal. The baby had dropped, and labor could begin at any moment.
Song Qingya lay on the sofa, stroking her swollen belly. She spoke softly to Fei Jin, "I might be heading to the delivery room tomorrow. Do you think it’ll be a boy or a girl?"
Fei Jin held her hand and smiled. "Boy or girl, it’s our precious baby."
His gaze was so gentle it seemed to overflow with tenderness.
"As long as you’re safe, I’ll be happy."
That night, not long after Song Qingya lay down, her abdomen began to tighten in wave after wave of contractions.
Frowning, she gently pressed her abdomen and called out in a low voice, "Ajin..."
Fei Jin immediately rushed out from the study, scooped her up in his arms, and raced to the hospital.
The night was dark, the car’s headlights slicing through the silence.
Once they arrived at the hospital, the delivery room was quickly prepared.
Zhang Yao and Fang Hui were both by her side, keeping watch.
Beads of sweat formed on both their foreheads, and their fingers gripped the edge of the bed tightly.
Song Qingya clenched her jaw, enduring wave after wave of pain.
Sweat soaked her hair, plastering it stickily to her face.
She could feel her strength being drained away, bit by bit.
Her consciousness drifted in and out with the pain. In her ears, she could hear the rhythmic beeping of the machines and the doctor’s calm commands.
"Push! One more time!"
’At that moment, an inexplicable sense of unease crept into her heart.’
’What if... What if I don’t make it through this?’
She gasped for breath, turning her head with great effort to look at Fang Hui, her gaze exhausted.
"Fang Hui... I... I don’t think I can hold on much longer."
She swallowed with difficulty, a flicker of resolve in her eyes.
"If I don’t make it... you have to take over the hospital for me."
When Fang Hui heard this, her mind went blank and her eyes instantly turned red.
She lunged to the bedside and gripped Song Qingya’s hand, her voice trembling.
"Dean Song, don’t say that! You’ll be fine, I know it! You’re so strong, how could anything happen to you! You promised to take me to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new outpatient building, you can’t go back on your word!"
She grew more agitated as she spoke, tears streaming down her face.
"You and the baby will both be fine, you have to be! Heaven is watching; it won’t let something happen to a good person!"
Just then, the delivery room door was thrown open with a BANG.
A blast of cold wind rushed into the room, making the curtains whip violently.
Fei Jin burst in, his tie askew and one of his shirt buttons popped.
He rushed to the bedside in a few strides. The sight of Song Qingya’s deathly pale face made his heart clench violently.
He spun around and roared at the medical staff.
"Are you even competent! She’s in this much pain, so what are you dawdling for! Deliver the baby now! If anything happens to her or the child, I’ll have your heads!"
"Qingya! How are you? Doctor! Save the mother first! You have to save my wife!"
Fei Jin had practically burst into the delivery room, screaming.
"Qingya, you listen to me! Nothing is going to happen to you, you hear me?! You are not allowed to leave me! Do you understand!"
He threw himself at the bedside and grabbed her hand. It was so cold it didn’t feel human.
He fell to his knees, pressing his forehead against the edge of the bed, his voice choked with sobs.
’He would give up anything, as long as she was safe!’
Song Qingya struggled to open her eyes.
She wanted to raise her hand to touch his face.
But her limbs felt as if they were filled with lead; she couldn’t move.
Looking at Fei Jin’s panic-stricken face, the corners of her mouth twitched slightly.
"Fei Jin... Take good care of our child," she said, her voice breaking.
"If you dare treat him poorly... even if I’m gone... I’ll never forgive you..."
’This man... he was such a fool.’
’He was usually so sharp and calm, but now he was like a lost, helpless child.’
"Shut up! Nothing is going to happen to you!"
Fei Jin snapped his head up, his eyes bloodshot as tears rolled down his cheeks.
