Chapter 249: Top Priority
Chapter 249: Top Priority
"Ajin, I want to use this incident to quietly send a message, give those restless folks a little wake-up call."
Rattling the cage always gets some people to behave.
Fei Jin grunted in agreement, but his brow furrowed with a hint of worry.
"This might scare off the small-time players, but it will also attract the attention of others. If they decide we’re in their way, who knows what they might try."
He wasn’t afraid of trouble; he just didn’t want Qingya to have to live in fear.
"As long as we act with integrity, we don’t have to fear their dirty tricks."
Politics is a game of chess; the last thing you want is to give someone leverage over you.
As long as you act with integrity, keep the books clean, and watch what you say.
Even if someone comes looking for trouble, they’ll just come away empty-handed.
Besides, she, Song Qingya, was no pushover.
Over the years, she had quietly collected records of many questionable loopholes and transactions.
If anyone dared to touch the people she cared about, she’d make them regret it.
Fei Jin lowered his head and gently kissed her on the forehead.
"For you, and for our family, I will always uphold my principles."
Thinking of their soon-to-be-born child, Song Qingya’s thoughts gradually shifted to her plans for after the birth.
"Ajin, after the baby is born, I plan to let Fang Hui manage the hospital while I’m in postpartum confinement."
Song Qingya gently caressed her slightly swollen belly, her tone calm and earnest.
Fei Jin wasn’t surprised to hear this.
He knew Qingya. Her judgment of character had always been sound.
Whether it was doctors or nurses, nearly everyone she personally promoted turned out to be outstanding.
"I trust whoever you choose."
"Should I make some arrangements ahead of time? Like with hospital personnel, or other minor details?"
Fei Jin leaned forward slightly, his tone gentle and concerned.
He knew that once Song Qingya left her post, some people at the hospital would inevitably become restless.
Song Qingya gently shook her head.
"There’s no need for that right now."
"Besides her, I really can’t think of anyone else I would trust more."
"That girl, Fang Hui, may look quiet and gentle on the surface, but she has a real fighting spirit. She’s a quick learner, and everyone at the hospital has seen her work ethic lately."
Song Qingya continued, her voice tinged with admiration.
"Don’t worry too much about the hospital," he said. "Taking care of yourself and delivering the baby safely is the top priority."
"As for Fang Hui, I’ll arrange for some extra help to make sure she has a smooth transition."
Just as he mentioned Fang Hui, her voice came from outside the door.
"Dean Song, are you in?"
Song Qingya raised her voice and replied, "Fang Hui, come in."
Fang Hui entered hesitantly, carrying a small, cloth-covered earthenware pot.
She wore a neat nurse’s uniform, her hair impeccably tied back in a ponytail.
"Dean Song, Mr. Fei."
She greeted them respectfully.
She then gently placed the earthenware pot on the table, her fingers lingering on the rim as if she were afraid to let go.
"My grandfather heard you haven’t had much of an appetite lately, so he specially pickled some cucumbers for me to bring you. He said they’re good for whetting the appetite and cutting through any richness."
The old man was a retired traditional Chinese medicine doctor, highly skilled but known for his eccentric personality.
For him to personally pickle something and send it over was a tremendous gesture of goodwill.
Song Qingya accepted it with a smile. As she lifted the lid, a fresh, savory aroma immediately wafted into her nose.
She took a deep breath, the smile on her face deepening.
"This is a real lifesaver. I truly haven’t had much of an appetite these past couple of days, but the sight of this is making my mouth water."
She pulled Fang Hui to sit down on the stone stool beside her.
"Fang Hui, I was just discussing with Brother Gu that I’d like to leave the hospital’s daily affairs in your hands while I’m on my postpartum confinement."
"Ah?"
Fang Hui’s head snapped up, her pupils contracting in shock.
Her hand trembled, and she almost lost her grip on the empty bowl she was holding.
"Me? Dean Song, I can’t! I really can’t do it!"
She waved her hands repeatedly, her voice trembling.
"If I mess things up, how could I ever live up to your trust in me?"
’That’s the hospital!’
’She was just an ordinary nurse.’
’Even if she performed well, she was still just a junior staff member. How could she ever dream of being in charge?’
’She was just a simple nurse; how could she possibly handle such a responsibility?’
’Although she had always studied hard, earned multiple certifications, and accumulated plenty of practical experience, she had never imagined being entrusted with such a major role.’
Song Qingya gently patted the back of her hand.
"I believe you’re capable."
"Besides, I’ll arrange for your grandfather to be moved into the hospital. He’ll have his own room, making it easier for you to look after him. That way, you can focus on your work without worrying."
She looked into Fang Hui’s eyes, adding each word with emphasis.
She knew the old man was advanced in age and had mobility issues.
Since he lived in the countryside outside the city, Fang Hui was always worried whenever she had to work a night shift.
This was the most thoughtful arrangement she could think of for Fang Hui.
As soon as Fang Hui heard this, a deep blush spread to the tips of her ears, and she quickly waved her hands in protest.
She shot to her feet, her lips trembling and her eyes welling up with tears.
"Dean Song, this... I can’t possibly accept! You’ve already been so good to me, how could I let you go to even more trouble on my account!"
"Dean Song, this is just too much! You’ve already helped me so, so much. I can’t possibly trouble you any further! I can never repay your kindness as it is; how could I possibly accept such a monumental task?"
"I... I’m just so afraid I won’t do a good job. If I make a mistake, it will only cause you more stress and could even disrupt the hospital’s operations. I would be unforgivable then."
’Dean Song was just too good to her.’
’Not only did she give her a stable job during her most difficult times, but she also took the initiative to contact specialists, arrange treatment for her seriously ill grandfather, and even fronted a portion of the medical expenses.’
’And now, she was actually going to hand over such an important management role to her.’
Song Qingya gently raised an eyebrow.
"Causing trouble? If you can keep the hospital running in an orderly fashion and handle everything properly, you’ll be helping me more than anyone else could. In fact, I wouldn’t feel comfortable handing this responsibility over to anyone else."
She paused, looking directly into Fang Hui’s eyes.
"Fang Hui, you need to believe in yourself. I know you can do this."
She had always prided herself on her sharp judgment in personnel matters. She rarely gave out praise and would never entrust a major responsibility to someone she didn’t have complete confidence in.
Fang Hui was still hesitant, her brow furrowed slightly.
"But... that’s the hospital. It’s a high-level institution with strict rules, involving all sorts of connections and procedures. If I take one wrong step or mess something up, delaying important hospital business... when word gets out, people will accuse you of nepotism, of making a poor appointment, of having terrible judgment of character..."
Her voice grew quieter as she spoke, a trace of worry flashing in her eyes.
"I don’t want to be the reason you’re subjected to gossip and criticism, Dean Song."
Song Qingya laughed at that.
"What will they say? That I have a knack for finding talent and the ability to train my own successor?"
"Let them say whatever they want. I only care about the facts. And the fact is, you’ve been helping me handle all sorts of hospital matters recently, and you’ve done it with clarity and precision. Is there a single department that doesn’t praise your efficiency and conscientious attitude?"
