Chapter 416 - 366: You Just Love Taking on Work! (Five Updates)
Yi Luowa wasn’t really helping Youyou study. At the moment, she was lazily curled up on the sofa with a game console in hand, watching Youyou learn court etiquette from Lady Jing Ya. Whenever Youyou failed to get it right, she’d swat her lightly.Tong Airui quietly pushed the door open just as Yi Luowa was giving Youyou a tap. Youyou was jutting her lip out in defiance, staring down Yi Luowa.
Yi Luowa glared at her and snapped, "What are you staring at? Your grandma is so old, yet she’s still teaching you these things. If you don’t take it seriously, how are you going to face her properly?"
"It’s just a bow or two! Why do I need to learn two kinds? I can’t remember them!" Youyou mumbled under her breath.
Yi Luowa rubbed her temples. "The first one is Xiawu etiquette, and the second one is from Country S! Just two types and you still mess them up? How did you even manage to learn martial arts?"
Youyou huffed and retorted, "Learning martial arts is completely different!"
Lady Jing Ya chuckled and looked at Youyou warmly. "It’s Grandma’s fault. How about this? We’ll focus on the etiquette of Country S first, and we’ll leave Xiawu’s for later."
Youyou looked up at Lady Jing Ya with puppy-dog eyes. "I want to learn Xiawu stuff. Mi Chenxuan says if you marry a chicken, follow the chicken; if you marry a dog, follow the dog. Since I’m going to be Xiawu in the future, I don’t need to learn Country S’s."
Tong Airui furrowed his brows slightly. "If Grandma says you learn both, then you learn both. No complaining!"
Yi Luowa turned her head toward him. "Since when did you come in? I didn’t even notice. Had a good nap?"
"Yep, feeling refreshed," Tong Airui said with a grin, walking over. "Grandma, why don’t you teach her one more time and then take a break? Mom says it’s almost time for dinner."
Lady Jing Ya smiled. "Alright, I’ll teach her one more. Come here, Youyou, and follow Grandma."
Seeing Youyou do well this time, Tong Airui sat next to Yi Luowa and murmured, "I thought you were learning too. Turns out you’re here acting like a drill sergeant."
"I’ve mastered all this ages ago. She just upset her aunt earlier, so I figured Grandma might have trouble with her. That’s why I came to keep an eye on her."
"She upset Aunt Yan Zi again?" Tong Airui cocked his head to glance at Youyou, mentally preparing to deal with her later.
Youyou pouted. "Aunt Yan Zi said I’m stupid. She got angry at herself; I didn’t make her mad on purpose."
Lady Jing Ya observed Youyou’s movements and smiled. "Our Youyou isn’t stupid at all! Look at how well you did just now. Alright, go play for a while."
"Thank you, Grandma," Youyou said, flashing a bright smile before planting a quick kiss on Lady Jing Ya’s cheek.
"Such a sweet girl!" Lady Jing Ya chuckled, patting Youyou affectionately on her little face.
Youyou shot Yi Luowa and Tong Airui a glance before darting out the door.
"This child is far from stupid; she just doesn’t want to learn. Deep down, she resists all of this stuff."
"She’s just got too much freedom," Yi Luowa said with a laugh. "I was like that too. Eventually, I realized once you learn it, it’s yours to keep. That’s when I really buckled down."
Tong Airui grinned and ruffled her hair. "Wife, keep Grandma company for a bit. I’m going to call Third Brother."
Lady Jing Ya smiled warmly. "You can make the call right here. I’ll take Luowa to sit outside."
Yi Luowa quickly got up to assist Grandma as they left the room together.
Once Tong Airui had dialed Mi Chenshuo, he asked straightforwardly, "Third Brother, you’ve got a handle on the situation over there, right?"
"Yes, Juste just talked to me about it."
Hearing a tinge of heaviness in his brother’s voice, Tong Airui frowned slightly. "They giving you a hard time?"
"No, not really. Just feeling like a life for a life doesn’t settle much. Su Qing’s death was unjust, and Joyina was just crying about it earlier. She said even if Lan Ji gets the death penalty, it won’t bring Su Qing back."
"What’s done is done. We can only try to console ourselves and move forward. By the way, do Joyina’s parents have any objections to your marriage?" Tong Airui deftly changed the subject.
"Juste convinced her parents before we arrived, so they’ve been treating me quite nicely since. Right now, Joyina’s mom is playing with Mianmian in the garden," Mi Chenshuo said, glancing at the grandmother and granddaughter pair in the distance, a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Tong Airui chuckled. "Mianmian is such a good kid; everyone loves her. Third Brother, if things are comfortable over there, why not stay a bit longer? Let Joyina spend more time with her parents."
"Alright."
"I’ll hang up, then. Time for dinner. If anything comes up, I’ll text you."
After hanging up, Tong Airui left the room briskly. Having skipped lunch after napping all day, he was starting to feel the hunger pangs.
As Tong Yao spotted her son coming out, she quickly called everyone to the dining room. As soon as Youyou sat down, her gaze anxiously shifted toward the seat beside her.
"Your Aunt Yan Zi said she’s not hungry and won’t be eating tonight," Tong Yao said knowingly with a smile.
"Can I bring some food up to her?" Youyou asked, lifting her eyes to Tong Yao. "Maybe she’ll eat a little."
"Look at how thoughtful our Youyou is!" Tong Yao said with a laugh. "Go ahead and bring her some. See if she’ll eat."
"Thank you, Aunt Yaoyao!" Youyou exclaimed, delightedly standing up. Relying on memory, she grabbed a few of Yan Zi’s favorite dishes and scurried upstairs.
Lady Jing Ya chuckled. "Yan Zi just doesn’t appreciate what she has. Youyou may be a bit slow on the uptake sometimes, but she knows how to care for others. That’s a wonderful trait. With some nurturing, this child is bound to become better and better."
Tong Yao chimed in with a grin, "Mom, it’s not that Yan Zi doesn’t appreciate her; it’s just that she’s impatient. From now on, let’s keep Youyou with us. We can work on her together before sending her back."
"You just love taking on extra work, don’t you?" Lady Jing Ya said, laughing. "Doesn’t it tire you out?"
"It’s a bit tiring now, but it’ll save effort in the future," Tong Yao quipped, placing a lamb chop on Lady Jing Ya’s plate. "I’m doing it for you after all. If Yan Zi doesn’t do well, you’re the one who’ll be most upset."
Yi Luowa glanced warmly at her mother-in-law. No wonder everyone adored her—her kind heart and gentle nature shone through in every word.
Halfway through the meal, Mike Zekai and Jimo Shanshan entered. They mentioned it was a last-minute decision to eat dinner at home, but their grandfather hadn’t prepared anything for them, assuming they’d be eating elsewhere.
Yi Luowa got up to have extra tableware prepared and asked the chef to whip up two additional dishes.
Mike Zekai ate slowly, one bite at a time. Seeing Long Che had already finished his meal but stayed at the table to keep him company, Mike Zekai grinned. "Uncle, no need to keep me company. You know how slow I eat—if it weren’t for surgeries, I could easily take an hour to finish a meal."
"If you know you’re slow, can’t you speed up?" Tong Airui shot him a look of mild disdain.
"If I could change, I would’ve done it by now," Mike Zekai said with a smile, leisurely scooping a few grains of rice into his mouth.
Yi Luowa nearly burst out laughing. "This guy... he’s not eating; he’s polishing off grains of gold."
"Everyone has their quirks. As long as he eats enough, that’s what matters," Lady Jing Ya said kindly, her eyes drifting toward Jimo Shanshan’s belly. Since their wedding, the couple had been talking about having a child. It had been over two months now—she wondered if there’d been any progress.
"Grandma, what are you staring at?" Mike Zekai asked with a sly smile.
Lady Jing Ya chuckled. "And you still need to ask, my dear?"
Jimo Shanshan’s cheeks turned a faint shade of pink.
Mike Zekai grinned. "Grandma, don’t worry! Maybe in nine months, you’ll have a great-grandchild to hold!"
