Chapter 415 - 365 Who Came Up with This Idea? (Four Updates)

Long Che had "fallen ill" and shut his doors to visitors.Tong Airui took three days off, turned off his phone, and cut off all connections to the outside world.

Muta knew in his heart that this father and son pair were waiting at home for his decision. Once his decision satisfied them, Long Che’s illness would naturally resolve itself.

Muta spent most of the day going through all the files with Leon and Bert, analyzing them thoroughly. Muta then looked at Bert, "What are your thoughts?"

Bert’s face bore an unmistakable bitterness, "What kind of luck do I have to always run into women like this?"

Leon gave his younger brother’s shoulder a heavy pat. "Next time, your older brother will screen them for you."

Bert let out a bitter laugh. "I think I’d rather stay single. Father, a life for a life. Arrest Lan Ji and Lan Bo!"

"Are you willing?" Muta cast a sidelong glance at his son.

"There’s nothing to be hesitant about. What you didn’t have always seems the best, but once you’ve obtained it, you realize it’s not the case at all. No wonder she was always so cold and indifferent to me—it’s because she never loved me. There’s no reason for me to grieve over a woman who doesn’t love me."

As Bert spoke, he looked at his father. "Father, the North Di forces are already pressing down on us. Once Haotian falls, next in line will be our Xiawu. Uncle Che and Airui are hiding at home, seeing no one. If you don’t give them a satisfactory resolution, this matter will definitely escalate."

"I know your Uncle Che best. If the situation escalates, no matter how upset he is, he’ll be the first to come running to protect me. Having a lifelong friend like him is enough for me. But we can’t always let others take the brunt for us. When it counts, we have to fight for this on his behalf."

Muta turned his gaze to Leon. "Bert is not suitable to handle this personally. You’ll take the lead. Go to the Earl of Lan’s house, strip him of his title, and detain him. Everything will proceed in accordance with standard legal procedures. Hand down whatever judgment the law calls for. I want this case handled swiftly and strictly, and I need you involved from beginning to end."

"Understood, Father." Leon gathered the files he would need from the table and left quickly.

Muta handed the remaining documents to Bert. "Over the next few days, the Lan family matter will stir quite a commotion. Take this opportunity to get some fresh air."

Bert nodded.

"When you go to Haotian, you don’t need to say anything. Just hand these documents to Emperor Haotian. The North Di forces are already at his doorstep. As a prince delivering these files personally, he’ll know what to do."

"Alright." Bert rose. "Father, what if Emperor Haotian can’t bring himself to deal with his sister?"

"Then it will be up to him." Muta patted his son’s shoulder. "Your performance today didn’t disappoint me. Go now, and be careful when you get to Haotian."

"Alright, Father. I’m off then."

Bert had just arrived at the airport when his phone rang.

Bert glanced at the number on the screen and chuckled to himself. "Calling me now? Isn’t it a bit late for that?"

He hovered his hand over the power button to shut the phone off but hesitated before hitting the answer button instead.

As soon as the call connected, Lan Bo’s frantic voice erupted. "Brother-in-law! What on earth is going on? Why did Prince Leon show up at our house and revoke my father’s title without a word?"

"Give me the phone!" Lan Ji snatched the phone from Lan Bo’s hand, her tone arrogantly commanding as she barked at Bert, "Bert, get over here immediately. Your brother just said he’s not only revoking my father’s title but also taking our whole family to jail. What is he thinking? Has he gone mad?"

Bert’s lips curled into a faint, sardonic smile. "He may very well be mad. I’m not in Xiawu right now. Let’s do this: cooperate with whatever my brother intends to do. Once I’m back, I’ll make sure your whole family gets out."

"No! I’m not going to that hellhole of a prison! I don’t care where you are—you must come back immediately. If this mess isn’t resolved, you can forget about marrying me in this lifetime!"

Bert let out a cold laugh. "Lan Ji, you think this is still a game? Do you even know what you’ve done? Stop barking orders at me. I’ve never planned to marry you!"

Lan Ji froze where she stood. Bert, who had always acquiesced to her wishes, seemed like a completely different person today. Could it be that her secret had already been exposed?

While she was in shock, a royal guard snatched the phone from her hand. "We’ve got two more here—take them!"

Seeing the guards rushing toward her, Lan Ji kicked and flailed wildly. "I’m your future queen! Let’s see which of you dares to touch me!"

Leon entered the scene, thoroughly enjoying the commotion. "Queen? For whom? King Yama, perhaps?"

Two guards twisted her arms behind her back, restraining her.

Lan Ji glared at Leon and screamed at the top of her lungs, "I’m Bert’s queen! How dare you treat me like this? Aren’t you afraid Bert will come back and make you pay for this?"

Leon approached, raised his hand, and slapped her. "I think the only thing Bert would want to do to you right now is this. I’m just doing it for him. Take her away. Inform the prison to starve her for three days. Let’s see how arrogant she is then!"

The news of the Lan family’s downfall quickly reached the Duke’s residence. When Long Che heard it, a smile finally formed on his face.

Tong Airui slept until nearly dinnertime before coming downstairs. He was completely unaware of what had transpired outside, as his wife had confiscated his phone.

Seeing only his parents and grandfather downstairs, Tong Airui asked, "Mom, where’s my wife?"

Tong Yao chuckled. "Your wife’s gone missing!"

"If my wife went missing, would you still be sitting so calmly?" Tong Airui grinned as he approached. "Mom, where’s Luo? She has my phone. I need to check on the situation outside."

Long Che picked up a phone from the coffee table and tossed it to him. "Luo is accompanying You in class. She gave me your phone."

Tong Airui caught it steadily, flipped through it, and frowned. "Not a single call?"

"Yuan Hang told everyone you were sleeping. Who would dare call you?" Long Che smirked. "Leon personally led a raid on the Lan family. All four of them are now in jail, awaiting trial. Bert is currently on his way to Haotian. This is the first time Muta has acted so decisively in years."

"He was forced by you and Uncle Che!" Tong Yao retorted with a pout.

Prince Charles smiled faintly; he had always been a passive observer in such matters.

Tong Airui grinned and asked, "Has my third brother been informed of this?"

"Not yet. Why don’t you tell him yourself? Although, I’m sure he’s heard about it by now even if you haven’t told him."

"Yeah, we can’t let that rascal Just keep people planted on our side unchecked. Once this is over, I’ll think of a way to weed out his people."

Saying this, Tong Airui started heading upstairs.

Tong Yao sighed helplessly. "Did you sleep so much your head’s still foggy? Dinner’s almost ready, and you’re heading back up?"

"I’m going to check on my wife. Whose idea was this? Luo is the one person who most hates attending classes, and now she’s playing tutor!"

"She’s with your grandma! Your grandma is tutoring Luo and You in royal court etiquette."

Tong Airui’s lip twitched, and he hurried to his grandmother’s bedroom.
