Chapter 405 - 355: Digging One’s Own Grave (Sixth Update)
Huo Li gave Yi Luowa a deep look. "I can’t act in front of women. How about this, you call your man over, I’ll seduce him, and you guide me on the side. How about that?"Yi Luowa laughed and gave her a playful slap. "You’re not dumb, are you?"
"I’m dumb! If I weren’t, would I be saying this to you? I thought you were genuinely helping me, but it turns out you’re just messing with me!" Huo Li suddenly pounced on Yi Luowa. "Let’s see how I’ll deal with you!"
Yi Luowa giggled, "Huo Li, I’m pregnant. If you hurt my baby, I’ll never let you off!"
"You’re really pregnant?" Huo Li hesitated for a moment, and Yi Luowa flipped over, pinning her beneath her. "You big fool! You believe everything I say! Now listen carefully and remember what I’m about to tell you. My Second Uncle does have feelings for you. It’s not that he doesn’t want you—he must have his reasons."
Huo Li blinked. "Now that you mention it, I remember something. That day, the day we kissed, Yi Weiyang told me, ’Huo Li, let’s get married.’"
"And then?"
"I said, ’Let me get ready first.’"
Yi Luowa frowned and asked, "What else do you need to prepare? Are you not ready to marry my Second Uncle?"
Huo Li pushed Yi Luowa aside and sat up. "No! I dream of marrying him! But at least I need to prepare a dowry for myself. If I marry him in a run-down state, people will laugh at him. You’ve been busy these days, and I don’t even know what people in Z-Country usually prepare for weddings. I was waiting for you."
Yi Luowa pouted. "That’s my bad; I got too caught up on one end."
Huo Li vigorously rubbed Yi Luowa’s little cheeks. "This isn’t your fault. Your mother-in-law treats you so well, and since she’s fallen ill, of course you have to stay and take care of her."
"Mm, that’s what I think too." Yi Luowa nodded gloomily. "Huo Li, when Second Uncle sent you away that day, he must’ve misunderstood you and thought you weren’t ready to marry him. When Second Uncle comes back, just explain to him. Don’t worry about the dowry; I’ll help you buy everything. You just focus on being a happy bride."
"How can I let you buy my dowry?! No need, just spend two days with me, and that’ll be enough."
"I’m your sister, I’m from your in-law’s side, but I’m also part of your family!" Yi Luowa scratched her head. "Now, there’s only one question left. Why did my Second Uncle need to go to T-Country?"
"I don’t know. He was whispering with Uncle Li in the study for ages. Aunt Li was guarding the door, not letting me listen in. It can’t be anything good!"
Standing outside the door, Tong Airui decided it was time for him to make an entrance. He knocked lightly on the door. After hearing his wife say, "Come in," he pushed the door open and walked in.
"Can’t you let me keep your wife a bit longer?" Huo Li looked at him with dissatisfaction.
Tong Airui chuckled. "I came to be your live prop."
"Tong Airui, you were eavesdropping on us!" Huo Li shouted angrily. "Yi Luowa! Your man overheard all my embarrassing secrets; you have to take responsibility for this!"
Yi Luowa glared at Tong Airui reproachfully.
Tong Airui laughed. "I just got here and only overheard a small part. I’ve come to tell you why Second Uncle went to T-Country."
"Why?" Huo Li and Yi Luowa asked in unison.
"Second Uncle was tricked," Tong Airui said with a slight frown. "Someone sold him a piece of information, claiming that Luowa’s biological parents are in T-Country."
Yi Luowa was stunned. "Second Uncle is such a clever man; how could he fall for something like that so easily?"
"That person sent Second Uncle a few photos claiming to be of your mother. The woman in the photos looks remarkably like you. Second Uncle was worried it might not be true, and with Mom being sick, he didn’t want to alarm us. So he decided to go check it out himself."
"He didn’t want you guys to know, but why did he keep it from me as well?" Huo Li asked, puzzled, looking at Tong Airui.
"You tell Luowa about everything, even things between husband and wife. If he told you, you’d be the first to notify Luowa. Second Uncle didn’t want to keep upsetting her like this, over and over again."
"Will Yi Weiyang be in danger?" Huo Li asked anxiously.
Tong Airui shook his head. "My people have already escorted him onto the plane. He should arrive home by around one in the morning."
Huo Li glanced at the clock. "Then I should head back. If he comes home and doesn’t see me, he’ll worry."
Tong Airui’s mouth twitched slightly. "No need to leave; I’ve arranged for them to escort Second Uncle here."
Huo Li let out a long breath and turned to look at Yi Luowa, whose brows were still tightly furrowed. "Piggy, what are you thinking about?"
"From now on, no one is allowed to help me find my biological parents again!" Yi Luowa said angrily. "They even managed to trick my Second Uncle; it infuriates me!"
"The scammer has already been caught, and Second Uncle isn’t in danger. You don’t need to be upset anymore," Tong Airui said lovingly, patting her head gently.
"What did the scammer say?" Yi Luowa pouted and asked.
"The scammer used to work at Yi Corporation’s headquarters. He knows all about your past. The photos he sent Second Uncle were all digitally altered—expertly, too. Even after a professional was consulted, no flaws were detected.
His plan was to lure Second Uncle over, kidnap him, and extort us for money. Luckily, Huo Li was here. After she talked, I called my people over there, and they rescued Second Uncle during the attempted kidnapping."
"It went as far as an attempted kidnapping!" Yi Luowa felt a sharp pang in her heart, as if it were being clenched.
Huo Li, uneasy, grabbed hold of Tong Airui and asked, "Was Yi Weiyang hurt?"
"No, but a few of the bodyguards sustained minor injuries." Tong Airui subtly withdrew his hand. "The reason Second Uncle didn’t take you with him was likely that he was worried something unpredictable might happen. Being a few years older than us, he’s more cautious. So when he comes back, don’t make things difficult for him."
Huo Li quickly nodded. "I’m heartbroken for him; how could I argue with him?"
"Second Uncle is so silly!" Yi Luowa sniffled. "I’ll go prepare a room for him."
"No need," Tong Airui stopped her. "Mom has already had someone prepare it."
He pulled her into his arms, gently patting her head. "After this incident, Second Uncle won’t fall for such tricks again."
"What if there are other schemes?" Yi Luowa nestled into Tong Airui’s embrace, rubbing her head against his chest. "Don’t look anymore. I have a good life now. I don’t want to lose my current family before finding them."
"Alright, no more searching. No more searching," Tong Airui said, holding her tightly. "As long as you’re happy, whatever you want, I’ll give you."
Yi Luowa sniffled. "Huo Li, do you want to take a nap first?"
Huo Li scrunched up her face and said, "I don’t want to sleep. I’ll wait for Yi Weiyang to come back."
Yi Luowa raised her head to look at Tong Airui. "You said that whatever I wanted, you’d go along with it. Then you go to bed, and Huo Li and I will wait here for Second Uncle."
Tong Airui’s mouth twitched. He had dug a pit and buried himself in it.
